Round 1 line-up for Sun April 6, 2003 v Northern Bullants

Post by Dale61 »

Sunday April 6 at 2:10pm is the time that all the Seagulls players, officials and supporters have been waiting for; the first game of the 2003 season.
The Seagull's have built a strong list in an effort to improve on last seasons effort, with Sam Cranage and Josh Mahoney to provide the midfield with greater strength, consistency and experience. Marcus Baldwin will play a key position in the forward line and Scott Taylor returns to the Club to help bolster our firepower up forward.

However, the Bullants must not be taken lightly. The Bullants were always competitive last season as a stand alone club and the addition of the VFL's best goalkicker Nick Sautner, as well as the new alignment with Carlton will see the Bullants stronger than ever before.

It will be a hard fought battle with both Clubs desperate to begin the season on a high.

The selected side to tackle the Bullants for round 1 is:

*Please note that the starting times are 11:20am for the reserves and 2:00pm for the seniors. The 1:00pm starting time advertised in the Herald-Sun was incorrect.

B: Sheehan ~ West ~ Hollow
HB: Cole ~ Kinnear ~ Lloyd
C: Freeborn ~ Fletcher ~ Nixon
HF: Swan ~ Dukes ~ Scotland
F: Mahoney ~ Baldwin ~ Runnalls
R: C.Cloke ~ Cranage ~ Anderson
I/C from: Hooker ~ Lawry ~ Maxwell ~ McArdle ~ Pearce ~ Ralph ~ Rippon ~ Taylor.

A number of players are in contention to make their debuts for the Seagulls this weekend. Sam Cranage, Clinton Runnalls, Heath Lawry and Marcus Baldwin are likely to take their places, having crossed to the Club with good reputations. Nicholas McArdle graduates from the Clubs 2002 Reserves Premiership side, whilst Scott Taylor and Josh Mahoney have returned to the Club after stints away from Point Gellibrand.

Collingwood listed players in line to make their debut include Cameron Cloke, younger brother of Jason and Bo Nixon whilst Rookies Tom Hooker and Nick Maxwell are also in line for a Seagulls debut.

The Northern Bullants have 18 Carlton players in their line up including All-Australian ruckman Matthew Allen and will prove a formidable opponent for the Seagulls.

The game will be broadcast live on Sterio 974 (97.4FM) radio and 3SER (97.7FM). (Melbourne listeners only)
