St Kilda axed the last female coach in the AFLW and appointed Nick Del Santo. That's worked well! Ha ha.
Surely the women would respond better to female coaches. Besides, how are women coaches to get any experience unless they are appointed. Surely a female coach couldn't do any worse they we are at the moment. There would be an absolute outcry if a women was appointed to coach a men's team. And yet men are in control in the AFLW everywhere. I mean even Jordon Roughhead is helping out with our AFLW team. Come on. There must be some female coaches somewhere.
Why no more female coaches in the AFLW?

St Kilda did not axe their coach. Peta Searle left after 7 years to do something other than coaching a team. She is still involved as an AFL coach developer but currently works for the Vic govt.
The AFL is developing the pathways for female coaches but it takes time.
Same as the players there is also the part time nature of the gig.
Can be difficult to juggle work, study, family etc.
Anyway I don't think it matters the gender of the coach.
Having spoken to several players, they really like Steve, his coaching and development of players.
This year it has not worked out though.
