Confirmation today that Woodward did indeed do his knee in the dying minutes of the VFL season and he's announced his retirement.

That's bloody terrible.

I hope he gets into the coaching game.

Sad to see Woodward end his career on a sour note.

Cannot doubt his perseverance over the years.

Connor Stackelberg has been signed to our VFL team. One of the young blokes from my gym played with him. Reckons in the right environment can thrive, has all the attributes. He thought he'd be similar to Mihocek although a bit more of a lead up forward.

Who knows, a year in the VFL and all going well he ends up as a rookie draft prospect next year.
One thing we'e missing in the forward line mix is size and aggression. The likes of Thomas, WHE, Cox, Elliott, Stephenson aren't going to make you stand taller against a bunch of aggressive backs.

Jesse Palmer (Northern Blues)

Age: 23

191cm, 86kg

Originally from Ballarat, the midfield/forward ran out with the Northern Blues for a total of 18 games during the 2019 season, kicking 24 goals. Palmer was named centre half-forward in the 2018 VFL Team of the Year. He also spent time with Port Adelaide, playing three AFL games in 2016.

Cody Stackelberg (Brisbane Lions Academy)

Age: 19

185cm, 86kg

Stackelberg came through the ranks at AFL Queensland club Aspley, then captained the Brisbane Lions Academy side in 2017 and 2018. He is a strong-bodied inside midfielder who thrives on the contest and physical side of the game.

Connor Stackelberg (Aspley)

Age: 22

189cm, 89kg

Has moved south with his younger brother to pursue his football ambitions. He is a hard-leading, aggressive tall forward. Coming through the Aspley's junior programs, Stackelberg made his NEAFL debut for the Brisbane Lions in 2015.

Riley Ironside (Bendigo)

Age: 18

181cm, 80kg

As a damaging left footer, Ironside is likely to be a pillar in the Pies’ backline.

The Kyabram junior thrives on contested ball and winning in the one-on-one contests.

Kaden Schreiber (Oakleigh)

Age: 18

188cm, 78kg

A NAB premiership player with the Oakleigh Chargers, Schreiber is a medium defender who can also play in the midfield.

Vincent Zagari (Oakleigh)

Age: 18

186cm, 80kg

Another Oakleigh Charger, Zargari has earned his position on the Pies’ VFL list through his attention to detail and work ethic. With great skills and ability to read the play, he’ll be a huge asset to the team.

Sam Fowler (Dromana)

Age: 22

170cm, 70kg

Fowler is a crafty small forward who was a member of Dromana’s back-to-back premiership sides in 2018 and ’19. He also spent time playing with the Northern Blues back in 2017.

William Geurts (Dromana)

Age: 19

195cm, 100kg

A former Dandenong Stingray, Guerts was best on ground in Dromana’s Grand Final victory over Sorrento in 2019. He can to play at either end of the ground and also through the ruck.

Sean Downie (Rosebud)

Age: 21

186cm, 82kg

Another Mornington Peninsula lad, Downie won the Rosebud FC best and fairest in 2019.

Interesting that he's followed his brother there. Not much fanfare about it, but both Blairs are with Port now.

Cody Stackelberg will be one to watch. I also like the sound of Geurts. And I'm glad we nabbed a player that was in the Team of the Year in Palmer.

I still think we should have gone after Josh Deluca and possibly even Michael Barlow from Werribee. Losing Woodward will hurt, but Scott Selwood will play some games which will boost the team.

Oxley is the only other VFL out that will be harder to cover. But dont forget that Goldsack and Wells did a lot of work in the VFL this past season too and they'll be hard to replace.

Still, with Hocking taking over and Selwood playing, I think we'll be a better side. I know winning at this level isnt the ultimate goal, but I'd like to see them at least make the finals.

The development of Will Kelly will also be something to look forward to in 2020.
