Who opens a theme park in Bangkok?

https://www.tripzilla.com/5-must-visit- ... gkok/28437

After some 5 second research, they do.

Looks like Marvel walked through an airport door sideways and went Bangkok.

Aren't Marvel controlled by Disney? [who also own the Muppets, who we strongly suspect, run the AFL...]

The Club's merchandise department gushes that the 2019 AFLW Captain Marvel Training Guernsey is available for purchase!! :)

No kidding... It's $90.

Have a squiz & tell us if your favourite part is the painted-on star on the chest or the painted-on belt buckle at the waist.

(Umm... Who is Captain Marvel??)

And now the Western Bulldogs...

Innovate or die say sports marketers as Bulldogs' jumper sparks debate

https://www.theage.com.au/sport/afl/inn ... 513yu.html

"Sports marketing experts have applauded the Western Bulldogs' controversial decision to wear a Thor-inspired jumper in the first AFL game at the re-branded Marvel Stadium.
...

However Iconoclastic's Ben Parsons, the founder of Ministry of Sport and a leading sports marketer, said such innovation was necessary otherwise sporting codes would lose relevance.

He also had a message for sports fans trying to make sense of the decision.

"You ain't seen nothing yet," Parsons said."

Dogs to wear Thor jumper in round one

https://www.theage.com.au/sport/afl/dog ... 513oz.html

' “It will hopefully attract a new audience of fans for us, and we’re keen to see our members and supporters get to Marvel Stadium for round one in full voice against the Swans.”

Branded jumpers are not unprecedented in the AFL. Carlton wore a light blue guernsey for a game in 1997 for M&Ms, the Kangaroos donned orange as a one-off in 2000 as a promotion for Hutchison Telecommunications and St Kilda wore yellow in late 2001 for Pura Milk.'

The patients have taken over the asylum.

I remember the Saints game. Hotrod did a brilliant report that included lemons, canaries etc.

Carlton supporters I know never got over being called the smarties.

The North jumper was a Barry Crocker on the eyes.

Save this rubbish for practice matches.

Baum:

Super blooper: the tale wagging the dog

https://www.theage.com.au/sport/afl/sup ... 513xc.html

"But they’re not so much combining the two roles as calculatedly conflating them. Superheroes aren’t real. Footballers aren’t superheroes. Kids need to understand the real distinction, not the fanciful conjunction.

... Rugby league trialled costumed superheroes a couple of years ago. The trouble is that on their way home from saving the world from evil, some of them have fallen into the habit of stopping by for a bit of indecent assault. It messes with the plotline somewhat.

But there is an even more banal reality. If footballers were true superheroes, fighting for honesty and truth, they would tell the kids that they’re wearing these outfits not to deliver justice, or even four premiership points, but to sell them stuff: movie tickets, posters, scale-model superhero outfits, all available in the Marvel shop downstairs, credit cards accepted.
...

What do fans really know of the clubs they love? What endures? Players come and go, coaches come and go, philosophies come and go. A name, a nickname, a set of colours and a guernsey: these are the totems, binding club to fans, and both to history. Messing with the jumper risks messing with the fabric.

Superheroes and their legends are one thing, the tale wagging the Dog another."

But the opposite can happen too: trademark/IP disputes!!

https://www.theage.com.au/sport/soccer/ ... 516gl.html

"DC Comics filed a complaint with the European Union's office of intellectual property opposing the trademark application made by Valencia for its centennial logo on a claim there was a "likelihood of confusion" with some of the designs of Batman's symbol."

That bulldogs jumper looked more like a Melbourne jumper bastardised by Geelong.
