Okay trivia tragics, i'll pose this question if it hasn't already been asked [but I haven't researched the answer yet either...]

When was the last time we saw the two teams who advanced from the QF with the weeks rest into the PF, eliminated by teams who played in either the alternate QF or an EF?

And will we see it again?
Was this just a fluke?
What are the variables, including the post-round 23 bye?

I doubt it's happened before, but I'd think it's more coincidental.... apart from Nth, all the other teams in the eight had pretty similar records, maybe this year there were no stand out teams

The system of having 2 Prelims came in 1994.
Having both Prelims lost by the two teams who had a weeks rest has never happened before.

In the old days of the final five, the top side got a weeks rest on their own, plus a double chance. The top sides went out in straight sets in 73, 76, 80, 82.

Indeed it was 1994 when the McIntyre Final Eight System was introduced, although somewhat different from when 1st played 8th, 2nd played 7th etc.
But that is a topic for another day.

And I think it was North Melbourne who departed in straight sets in 1983, and not 1982.

^spot on, my error.

Straight setters were;
73 sadly us,
76 happily Carlton,
80 Geelong &
83 North.

Oh The 73 Prelim; 6 goals up at half time, and we pulled another 1970GF effort to lose by 7 points, after finishing two games clear on top at 19w:3l.
And that was after coughing up the 2nd-semi to Carlscum by 20 points.
Reckon a healthy Greening would have helped ice that cakewalk?!
