McCartney I believe is at club. When he walks out, he won't be coach. Resigned or resigning .. Tough caper.

If they had any balls they would have not traded Griffen, taken away his captaincy, and let him rot in the vfl for a year or two.

Is the news official yet? Frankly thought his position was untenable when his captain came out yesterday with his comments. McCartney may have a great teaching background, but to cut it in the AFL coaching game, you need to have played the game at the highest level.

Unfortunately this happens at every football level. 1 Year Contracts will become the norm.

When the players dictate what happens at your Football club, your going nowhere. We are moving players on which is the exact opposite to the Dogs.

WESTERN Bulldogs coach Brendan McCartney has resigned after a tumultuous 24 hours at the club.

President Peter Gordon announced the coach's departure at a press conference on Friday morning, saying feedback from within the club indicated that McCartney's position for the 2015 season was untenable.

McCartney, 53, had coached the club for three years, with the Bulldogs winning 20 of 66 games with him at the helm.

He had two years to run on his contract.

The press conference was called the day after the club captain Ryan Griffen requested a trade to Greater Western Sydney, the team the Bulldogs lost to in the final game of the season.

Gordon indicated that after Griffen's request, McCartney had indicated that he was unsure if he had enough support within the club to continue as senior coach.

The Bulldogs sought further feedback from the playing group (amongst others) on Thursday afternoon, before coming to the conclusion that the task before McCartney was too great and the coach duly fell on his sword.

Nice of him to resign given he's still got 2 year to run on the contract. Someone will inherit a nice young list, got some spots that need filling but a group of top draft picks is a nice place to start.

I don't think an environment where the players hold all the power would suit Scotty too well. After all, if there is a bad egg in the ranks at the Pies we actually tell them to shut up or move out.

Having a lol at all the doggies supporters saying to get Bomber as their next coach despite the stance he took with the Sando situation. Even if I were desperate for a senior gig, I would not go near that rabble.

Massive developments yesterday with Brendan McCartney 'resigning' from his role as coach for the Western Bulldogs.

Considering the statement that was released by Peter Gordon on Thursday afternoon regarding Ryan Griffen's request to be traded to GWS, I must say it is a big shock to see Macca leaving the club the way he has.

Granted the Bulldogs failed in their expectations this year but I felt he warranted another year for them as I think they have some great youngsters coming through who need more time to further develop as established players. I think in the short-term this sacking is going to hold the Bulldogs back and they still have major problems regarding the culture of their club.

Yesterday they failed to send a message to their members and supporters that they demanded excellence rather than accepting that players who whinge about the coach must have it their way.

It will be interesting to see who the Bulldogs appoint. Some believe that Brett Montgomery is the favourite to take over but I did hear Leigh Tudor's name being mentioned and he's a very highly rated assistant coach who often gets overlooked despite doing well at all clubs he's worked for so far. He reminds of me Ken Hinkley a little.
