Seagulls in upset victory

Williamstown produced the upset of the round with a 14-point win over league leader Geelong at Baytec Stadium yesterday.
The Seagulls took on a Geelong boasting experienced AFL players led by Tim McGrath and David Mensch.
The inclusion of Magpie Jarrod Molloy in the Williamstown forward line appeared to give the Seagulls an early focus, but he struggled against in-form defender Marc Woolnough.
Trailing by eight points at the first change, Williamstown wasted no time in the second quarter as James Podsiadly, Craig Smoker and Ben Kelly contributed a goal each to give the Seagulls a lead they would hold for the rest of the match.
Molloy had an interesting day - a number of strong grabs interspersed with a refusal to chase and a berating of the umpires. But he finished on a high note when he roved a bounce 25 metres from goal and snapped truly with his wrong foot early in the final term.

Tigers v Gulls in the big one?

HERE'S a VFL grand-final prediction from left field! An all-Western derby between arch rivals Weribee and Williamstown.
Judging by the VFL premiership ladder you would say the second-placed Werribee Tigers are right in the mix. But don't discount Williamstown, who are seventh on the table after Sunday's giant-killing win over premiership favourites Geelong at Skilled Stadium.
The Gulls' 14-point win, sparked by James Podsiadly, who kicked four goals, and Jarrod Molloy, three goals, with support from Ryan Lonie and Craig Anderson (32 disposals) should give coach Brad Gotch every hope for his side to finish the season full of running.
Gulls general manger Brendan Curry said Podsiadly was passed fit at the 11th hour to play his 50th VFL game after being troubled by a hip injury. "We were really happy with the win, because on hte face of it you could say we have been under achievers so far," he said.
Collingwood coach Mick Malthouse said last week-end he plans to ease players such as Molloy, Lonie, Damien Adkins, Tom Davidson and Carl Steinfort from Point Gellibrand into the AFL in the next few weeks.

That's the word from club general manager Brendan Curry.
The seventh-placed Seagulls are flying high after stunning top-of-the-ladder Geelong at Skilled Stadium last Sunday.
It's been hailed as the side's best win of the season.
"It shows our best is as good as anybody else in the competition," Curry said.
"We didn't have a passenger. We worked for each other. They (the Cats) had won seven in a row and hadn't looked like getting beaten at home."
Collingwood rookie-list player James Podsiadly showed courage to shrug off a niggling hip injury to kick four goals at full-forward.
"He marked really well and gave a really strong contest," Curry said.
"He probably should've kicked six and gave another away. James was terrific."
Podsiadly lives in Yarraville with Magpies young gun Richard Cole.
Hard-hitting Collingwood forward Jarrod Molloy kicked three goals to show he's on the comeback trail from a broken toe.
Rover Craig Anderson showed plenty of grit.
Williamstown play fellow top four contender Coburg Tigers at City Oval in the 15th round this Saturday.
It shapes as a mini-final.
