Williamstown moved to 4-3 after comprehensively outplaying the Bullants and, importantly for Collingwood, had a swag of midfielders put their hand up for selection.

Coach Brad Gotch said post-match that Saturday night's injury to Collingwood onballer Mark McGough had obviously motivated several players, with Damien Adkins, Heath Scotland, Andrew Dimattina and Alan Didak collecting plenty of possessions.

"They are all thinking they might be a bit of a sniff next week and I think it showed in the way they applied themselves today," said Gotch.

Adkins was brilliant rebounding from defence after a quiet start to the season.

"We just thought as a development thing we would just see how his accountability was (in defence) and we just wanted him to play man-on-man, and that's where he really showed today.," Gotch said.

Collingwood defender Mark Richardson made his return from a hamstring tear, and although quiet, was eased through three quarters along with Andrew R. Hill, back from a six-week hamstring injury.

Scotland and Steinfort would be close to a recall as well, then there is Dimattina who has also been playing well. We have plenty of depth, but why make wholesale changes to a winning team?
