Phew....scraped that one in, but Melb were very competitive today and gave us a good shake. Always knew they would come out to play today. Just grateful we got the 4 points.

Dont think we will play like that next week.

PS What happened to Pendles???

Not an impressive win by any means, but a really important one, in context. We didn't play very well and the Demons threw everything at us - could have been nasty if they'd taken their chances at crucial times. The fact that we had a bit more steadiness when we were challenged marks a real improvement. We needed to learn to win those games and we took a step today.

A few players who were down at half time really lifted, especially Harry O, and Swan in the last quarter. Burns sensational, Didak and Lockyer very solid throughout. Both Shaws faded a little in influence. Cloke mostly beaten though still gave a contest.

Of the kids, Brown and Wellingham good, Cook less so. Cox won some important late contests after a poor first half. Wellingham did some wonderful things but a few turnovers and poor decisions as well.

Sounded very flat today, probably predictable after the strong performances of the last few weeks and, I suspect, some overconfidence.

Pendles and Rocca will make a big difference, hope they are back next week.

Here's a quirky if meaningless stat, every Collingwood player racked up double-figure possession counts!

I didn't think anyone was really poor, but not many were really good either. We REALLY missed Scott Pendlebury, more than Rocca I thought.

The sort of win that successful seasons are built on.

Played way below par and absorbed a lot from a pumped up oppo and still got the chocolates.

Very well done Collingwood & congrats again to Leon !!

PS: Told yas we'd be behind at qtr time

Crowd a few hundred short of the 60,000 mark. Will be interesting to see if that's regarded as good enough.

No doubt we'll have the usual whiners complaining about how poorly we played, but as other posters have commented, given our big outs (Rocca would've been great against this mob and Pendles showed how important he is to our midfield) and the fact that were playing against a bogey side who were pumped up and on a bogey day, this is a great result.

A few weeks ago we would've lost this game (think Lions and Kangas) but the boys showed that they've toughened up and gained some composure and can win the tighter ones, not just blow away opposition who are down.

Absolutely. He adds so much precision to our disposal, and so much...*something*...to our ability to win the ball in heavy traffic. Forward line kicked over 100pts again, so the loss of Rocca was no big deal.

As pointed out above...its the kind of shit game we really need to win. Teams like Geelong/WCE(previously)/Hawks win games that they really deserve to lose. We were outplayed, arguably, for probably about 80% of the game...but for about 15minutes in the third quarter we did enough to win ourselves the game.

The good thing, is that as woeful as we were, we never really looked like losing. We always had the answers, we wore everything they threw at us and never looked like getting out of first gear. Daisy's running goal pretty much sums it up.
