How about some positive comments instead of sticking the boots in to a great servant of our club. Sure, Rocca may be close to the end but I'm getting a little sick of the constant bagging of one of our favourite sons.

Great game from the Mighty Magpies!

Proud of them one and all, especially after the 2 that got away.

Next 3 will be biggies and our response will set the tone for the rest of our season.

much easier game to watch....

We all know the about the standouts....but i thought some unsung hero's were:

O'Bree - 26 touches, 5 tackles, countless clearances

Cook - Great job on Stanton who is their best midfielder, held him to 25 unimportant possessions and only 1 junk time goal.

Rhyce Shaw - A bit off by foot, but got 19 touches and totally shut down Lovett who only had 13 touches, and not 1 goal. Rhyce gave him a bath. Rhyce is proving our best shut down player on the quicks.

Nathan Brown - Got done by Lloyd early, but destroyed Fletcher after a slowish start, then won every other contest he was involved in from that point forward.

Tyson Goldsack - The everywhere man today. SOme unbelievable efforts. Only registered 1 tackle, but i reckon he was the 2nd man in a number of times to really kill a contest....and was influential when moved forward. (reckon he's the man for Franklin next week)

Nick Maxwell - Quiet and didnt really have an opponent, but probably his most important game of the year. Was handy in a number of roles.

Wood and Fraser - Together they gave Hille and Laycock a touch up. Hitouts were even, but by far our rucks were more influential. Holding Hille goaless and with only 11 touches (2 kicks) is a huge effort. Fraser won 17 touches and provided a good option whilst Wood was very solid when he needed to mark or make a contest.

Ben Johnson - Probably his best game since return. 22 touches and a great first quarter.

Wellingham - Very pleased with his first game. Looked settled. Along with Cook, he added some real depth and speed through the midfield. Ran hard all day and often ran for the 2nd possession. Probably done enough to hold his spot...who will we drop for Burns and Rocca????

Obviously Cloke, Medhurst, Pendlebury and Davis were in a league of their own today and were dominant. Best games of the year by all, except Davis who was quiet in patches, but very dangerous throughout and dobbed 3 goals.

What was Knights thinking???? They had no structure all day.

Opening bounce:

- Johns v Pendlebury

- Winderlich v Medhurst

- Johnson v Michael

- Fletcher forward???

Then they took off Lloyd and put Michael up forward. Then they had a brainflash....lets put Johns up forward.

Then the best move of the match.....Johns on Travis Cloke!!!! He had no idea what to do on a quality forward.

So he moved back up forward and Monfries moved onto Medhurst. Even Lovett had a crack.

I got an idea Knights.

Forward line: Lloyd, McPhee, Monfries

Backline: Fletcher, Michael, Ryder

Midfield: Winderlich, Lovett

Bendigo: Johns (if they'd take him)

They went tall, but refused to play a tall forward line. Ive never seen a team go into a game so unbalanced.

Toweled up Fletcher. Another scalp for the Brown boy.

Three great positives to come out of this game.

Firstly, Pendles took his game to new heights today. In fact, he was very unlucky not to get the ANZAC medal imo.

Secondly, our rucks and clearances were superb. The most dominant ruck performances from us I can remember.

Thirdly, this new forward set-up, based on having a single power forward in Cloke is much more efficient and potent than what we've had for some time. I'm not bagging Rocca as he's been a true champion of our club and he single handedly won us many games in years gone by. However, our future forward structure must now centre on Cloke, Medhurst, and a swag of midfield forwards like Lockyer, Leon, Daisy and Dids. Mobility, speed and class is what its all about. Boy oh boy, I haven't been so excited about a game for a long time.
