Couple of points on this one.
Carlton was always going to have their tails up given the stigma of gaining all those records if they lost so its no surprise. And we probably didn't give that enough thought - i think Stanley and Toovey were one too many kids in this week given the pressure. Especially with these two not known for their hardness.
Having said that, i think we cost ourselves on gameday by having a top heavy forward line and not shifting harry or putting a extra man back when Fev started tio get rolling. I think Brown should have been shifted to Fev in the 2nd Qtr, and have Harry as third man up.
The forward line was too heavy, once we opened it up a bit in the 3rd and especially in the 4th when Rocca went off, things started to move.
I also think Wood should be our starting ruckman and Josh should push forward more.
Any thoughts, abuse, applause???

Snoop Dog:
The good news is i have not seen us play that badly since lions last year and we lost by less than 4 goals vs a side that is very clever when they get the footy.
They went in less than us and yet really beat us well. Their mids got their hands to the footy as much as us but were much cleaner with it. Their coach also out thought ours and their game plan of slowing us down was the right one. It always works. Unfortunately when they turned the ball on us they were clean and we were chasing bums. At no stage did MM try and slow them down. He was poor for mine.
We have as many kids as they do so its worth remembering we are pretty well advanced.

After watching the Lions win last night and the Blues win today 3 things became very clear -
1. MM was totally outcoached today and leaving Harry on Fev was the stupidest no move I have ever seen and I am norally a big fan of MM. He is too stubborn to stick to his idealogoy and will not chnage dynamically. Maybe time is passing him by.
2. Pies will not be a top 4 team this year with softcocks like Obree, Pendlebury, Fraser and Co. playing for them. Each one had a chance to step up and they all took the soft option. Obree had to go for the mark 20 meters out and pulled out as Stevens was coming in. Pendlebury had a chnace to smother a Cam Cloke kick and instead walked around and made a second rate attempt at body contact. When the Blues were getting a roll in in the 1st Quarter Josh had the chance to push Kreuzer out of bounds and instead he made an effort to coral him in - did not work and cost us a goal.
3 Lions are miles in front of the Pies because ALL their players have courage and will put their bodies in. Pies are soft as butter and netball would be to rough for some of them.
Pies had it all to do today and instead they always took the soft options and were soundly flogged by a better team.
I lost count of how many times the Blues ran through or past attempted tackles by the Black and White marshmallows.
This group as a team have no guts and now all teams will see how to beat them - hit them and they run !!
Piss poor effort and do not deserve to even think about finals in 2008.
Need to bring on McCarthy and Isles and get rid of Obree and others.

Good sides string wins together, something we have been unable to do now and in the past. Look at the Cats and Haw this year. The frustrating thing is you never know which Collingwood is going to turn up week to week - no wonder Im rarely confident pre-game!
We should never have lost this game - the whole team was just OFF today, hard to fathom why, particularly as it was an important game for the club to win.
Why did MM take soooo long to put Brown on Fev???
Carlton were just up today, we werent. VERY disappointing effort all round by our boys
Too many ineffective players and disposals. We know they are better than that so they had better come out next week and make up for it

My initial thoughts.
Maxwell has read too much of his own mail and now actively looks for any opportunity to make a physical statement.
Stanley just doesn't look like an AFL footballer. His awareness with the footy was very poor and he didn't do much of note off the ball.
Rocca was very poor. Every time we had a mark outside 50 there he would be in the goal square waving his hands looking for an entry onto his head. Do some work you lazy sod. Provide an option!
Marty still looks very rough around the edges. His skills are down.
Pendles is still lacking a little urgency.
Daisy was good in bursts but needs to find another couple of gears.
Medhurst was due for a shocker and he had it.
