Pre Match Pies vs Adelaide

Post by Johnson#26 »

Let's get in early - can it be done? What a momentum (and morale) booster it would be for us to overcome the Crows on their home patch.

Medhurst should be back, and I hear that Reilly and Porplyzia will both miss for Adelaide, which is a boost, for they are part of the second tier which help keep their boat afloat.

Go Woods!

Looking at their long injury list I expect to head over there and see us thrash them

You would have to think Medders will come in this week. As much as Dick has been great, he is probably looking for a stint back in the shirt tearers.

I doubt I'll be watching it as I am off to yet another celeb 21st sat night. Barrack hard guys!!!

would really get the media on our bandwaggon and the AFL would wake up to the Collingwood steam train, if we win.
We lose and were back in the pack.

If your going to play off in the finals its a game you should and have to win and depending on the way we win, in some cases it could shape out to be a season defining win sitting at 3-2 at present.

I just think that our backline is too potent for the mixed-bag Adelaide forward structure.
Our forward line, including the likes of Medhurst, Didak and Davis all at the feet of Rocca and the week by week improving Cloke has the potential to tear apart the underrated Adelaide defense which includes Ben Rutten and Nathan Basset for talls. Throw in Chris Bryan and Josh Fraser we may stretch them for height. Its hard to find some small defenders bar Andrew McLeod that can keep our smalls quiet all night.

Players we need to watch:
Tyson Edwards - Always seems to dominate against us. Hard tag for this bloke.
Simon Goodwin - Can be so effective and dangerous around half forward when hes not getting the centre clearances. Hard tag once again.
Brett Burton - Just the type of player that would prove to be a match winner against us.
Andrew McLeod - Brownlow medal threat so far, is dominating off half back and the problem for opposition sides is that hes such a brilliant user of the pill, rarely will he turn it over.

Whos gonna do the tag?
Tyson Edwards - Tarkyn Lockyer - Just seems to be the right body physic for it. Hes not the slowest bloke going around either, excellent tackler and is in super form, will win his own ball against him which will make Edwards think twice about running loose.

Simon Goodwin - Alan Toovey - I just want to see this kid grow and learn. Hes a good size and would get under the guard of the Adelaide. Mick should give him the big job.
He played on Delidio in his first game, then Burgoyne in his second. Give him the job and if he struggles on Goodwin is getting ontop change it.

Who needs to step up:
Anthony Rocca - Hes done it all year so far and just like he did against WCE he needs to take those contested marks.

Travis Cloke - His work ethic and around the ground work is fantastic, but his shots on goal must improve. Turn that 1.3 from last week to 3.1 and he becomes such a good player for us.

Leon Davis - Had the critics on his back, put in a big one and snag a few goals. No Johncock to keep him quiet this time, time to shine.

Ben Johnson - Been out of sorts this season, just hasnt been getting as much footy as he would have liked. His run is so valuable to us and when hes on we are very dangerous in the front half of the ground.

Josh Fraser - Got Ben Hudson to contend with. Should be able to run him off his legs especially with an extended break after the ANZAC day game. Needs a good game under his belt for a bit of confidence.

Malthouse has had enough time to work out their game plan. It never alters that much. It's very one on one. We have the players to match them in height and speed. If the players follow MM's instructions we should win, but hey we should have beaten Port.

In: Medhurst

Out: Davis

Hate to say it but i think Davis has to be shown that we have some good young players coming through, and if he isn't giong to perform at his best each week, then his the one that'll make way for them.

It should be a great game to watch this week, wont be much in it (Score wise).

Pies to win in a thriller.

TAB Sportsbet-
Adelaide -$1.35
Magpies -$3.00

Those odds seem out of whack,
Pies in good form, with long break to freshen up
Crows return game from Subi played in heavy conditions.
Pies match up well on crows and play Adelaide ground without fear.

Cant see there being anymore than 3 goals either way. Will be close.

Disagree with ya. Most of the time you dont have to drop a bloke to let him know his spot is underfire, by letting someone take his spot! All it takes is a word from MM.

IMO

Out: Brad Dick - has been servicable but is too light on and goes missing throughout the game too much. With the big bodied and experienced Adelaide side i think it will be tough for Dickie therefore keep Davis in for experience, and i think he gernerally plays well interstate too.
U don't think he has done enough wrong to be dropped either. Give him a chance and he will carve you up.

In: Paul Medhurst - Hopefully back from injury and in the side. All of a sudden we look very lively and dangerous in the forward line. Didak, Davis, Medhurst.

Great odds there, WesternPie.

We haven't beaten them since round nine 2004 at the Dome. Time for a change (although we've been within a kick on two occasions).

It will be tight as usual this one I hope McGregor is underdone as he often does well on Rocca. We have to be ready for crow flooding & chipping tactics! We really need this one!

it will be a small mans game as at night aami is slippery under foot.
my game plan is

Iwould tag mcleod all game so they have no drive from half back the only problem then if craig puts mcleod up foward. Bring back liccuria for him.

-goodwin,edwards, thompson there on ballers are skillfull if we don't apply tackle pressure and we turnover the ball we will be shot.

-rocca he has never played well at aami he needs to turn it around if he does we could win this game quite easily. Rutten would go to him I don't think rutten has been thrashed since he has arrived on the afl scene.I would play rocca ff you kick to him to provide a contest so it brings medders , magic and Big al into the game.

-fraser could push foward and allow the life of bryan to ruck but i think the dew will make a mismatch ineffective.
