Game was over 1/2 way thru the third quarter...the guys just laid down and died,BUT a couple of umpire decisions werent right,BUT again Port won be default and the PIES lost due to their own misgivings and the aid of some CROOK umpiring....not good enough on the day.

NO rain in NSW,not where it matters any way........

commentators said it was one of the toughest games they have seen for years. Power are a good side, everyone is underestimating them, they will be competitive all year. Even though we lost the young players still keep presenting in pendles, thomas, cox etc, still bodes well for the future.

Pies lose by 18pts.

Essentially we lost this game for two reasons;

1 - Ruck and Clearances. They doubled our clearances and in the wet that is crucial. Licca, OBree had little control on the game. FCS Mick - get us a ruckmen. Richards terrible and Fraser ok.

2 - We did not put them away when we had the chance. Fair to say we were better than them up until half way thru the 3rd. Their fwd pressure was sensational in the last 45 mins. We let them kick late goals every qtr.

The good news is that we fought it out and they tried hard. Umps were terrible. Cost us a goal thru play on and gave away a coouple against us in the middle which helped them stay in it.

The last qtr we just hung on and after some crucial turnovers by Burns, Johnson, Fraser, Davis and Presti 3 times we just were not getting it into the fwd line enough. They went in something like 15 to 5 up until the last 5 mins. How can the fwds work with that.

I thought OBree and Licca should have had more influence. To be fair to Licca he was good when he got it but he didnt get it anywhere near enough.

H.Shaw good again and Lockyer was ok although Mahoney got away late along with Lonie to hurt us.

Whilst Clement and Presti beat their men - they both made dumb errors. Clements mistakes cost us 3 goals in first half and Presti kicking ensured we fell down at HF. Davis was woeful. He gave away some frees and was far to cute at times for the conditions.

Fraser tried hard - ruck is not his spot. Cox was ok for game to as was Toovey although he got beaten late.

Port were good - they were relentless in the last qtr which is usually where we dominate.

Best: R.Shaw, S.Burns, D.Thomas, OBrien, Swan

Richards will not play Wednesday. Nor will D*ck who unfortunately needs to learn to put his head over the footy.

Dear Santa,

I am getting in early, so Please for Xmas the Magpies would like a genuine big body ruckman who can give our mids first use of the pill, who can hanle a bit of body pressure when taking an important mark! I would also like you to arrange Daicos to teach our centre half forward the basic fundamentles of kicking the ball to our forwards advantage! I know I am asking a bit but while we are at it a Full back who not only stops his opponet but actully is a good kick and can set us up comming out of defence! So Santa I promise to be a good little Magpie supporter if you can please leave these requests under the crissy tree.

Thought Cloke was ok - Santa should teach the mids to kick it to fwdds advantage. Some of the entries were terrible. His kicking does need to improve though. Hard day for big fellas.

Actually one of the best AFL matches I have ever seen, which made the last quarter that much more bitterly disappointing.

Here's a summary of how I saw the pies' 22.

Scott Burns: As brilliant as ever. Showed incredible courage in the last quarter.
James Clement: Not one of his best games. Still kept Tredrea quiet when he was on him. Tried hard in the last.
Travis Cloke: Not a game he'll want to remember. Made some bad turnovers and was generally ineffective. Should be dropped.
Shannon Cox: Made some mistakes in pressure situations but otherwise a really solid performance.
Leon Davis: Kicked a good goal, and had a go at times but didn't really get much of the ball.
Brad Dick: Never really went near it. Wasn't suited to the conditions.
Josh Fraser: Well beaten in the ruck, along with Richards. Otherwise, was serviceable.
Ben Johnson: Good match returning from injury. 25 disposals and although some of them were poor, really stood up in the second half.
Paul Licuria: Didn't see much of him but he was good when he got the ball.
Tarkyn Lockyer: Had a lot of the ball and worked pretty hard all match.
Nick Maxwell: Spent much of the match in the forward line again, and I thought held his own. Found out a bit in the last quarter.
Shane O'Bree: Barely saw him, but he mustn't have been too bad as he had 16 disposals.
Harry O'Brien: Beaten by his opponent for most of the match, but he wasn't our worst. Did some good things, especially in the last quarter.
Scott Pendlebury: Solid performance. Kicked two goals.
Simon Prestigiacomo: The commentators were having a go at his disposal skills, which was fair enough I guess, but I thought he was really superb today. Several big spoils and great work ethic.
Guy Richards: To my eye, was alright in the ruck against Lade, but the stats say otherwise. Barely sighted other than that.
Anthony Rocca: Getting back to his best form, wasn't suited by the conditions but still managed to be a big attacking option.
Heath Shaw: Superb as always. Never gave up.
Rhyce Shaw: 30 disposals, most of them effective. I would confidently say he was our best player today. Played hard for four quarters.
Dane Swan: Not his best game, but still played well. Kicked our only two goals in the second half, and was one of our best in the final quarter.
Dale Thomas: Great courage in the last quarter, especially to come back onto the field. One of our best.
Alan Toovey: Showed last week wasn't a one-off, had an excellent game. Went quiet at times, but played with a great deal of maturity.

Yes D*ck definatly squibed it in the third qtr I hope they show him the video footage of that to teach him in those conditions he needs to put his head over the ball fairdinkum the conditions today should have suited him!

Richards is a waste of space on the list we are better off going into a game with a six footer who I am sure would be more competitive!

Terrible. Three Brownlow votes to Mick Malthouse for his stunning performance in letting Port win. I'm not one of the Sack Malthouse!!!!111oneoneone brigade...But seriously. Guy Richards is NOT of AFL standard.

3 possesions. 6 hit outs. Talk all you want about conditions not suiting him (as I'm sure one or two will), he's just no good. Lade murdered us. Fraser well down on form. Ruck is going to cost us again and again until it's looked at.

Essendon to murder us next week.

Edit: The loss isn't solely because of Richards. I'm not saying that. But he certainly doesn't help matters.
Match in the gas tank...

Boom, boom.

Generally agree but some odd ones there;

Richards - to your ok? What were you watching. Had 3 touches and 6 HOs.
Cloke - Wet day, 20 yo, hardest spot on ground, got a dozen touches or so. Kicking into him poor...must be another CLoke hater.
OBree - 16 disposal, so ok??? He turned it over in the middle a couple of times. If your going to knock Cloke be fair - he was poor.
Licca - yeah was ok when he got it but like OBree did not get it anywhere near enough, senior blokes need to be much better. These blokes hould have excelled in wet.
Presti - ???? He beat his man but his skills were woeful...even for a wet day.
Lockyer - beaten badly in last.

Yes I said at the start of the season give him 5 games and then make a call but now after todays debacle he has to go, FFS 6 hitouts and 3 disposals, Lade gets 29. Plain embarassing for the club and his confidence must be hitting rock bottom. Plus on a wet day surely a big bodied Bryan would have been much better eg keating in 2002. Time for Bryan to be given a go. Was Bryan still injured? This should be the only reason he was not playing today. But Johnno, is it time to cut our losses?

I didnt say he played well - I said he played ok but that his kicking let him down.

Maybe pray to Santa that we could swap Licca for Shaun B.

Also credit to Ports recruiting department, resurrected Mahoneys career and he has been sensational, and also now Rodan is on fire, they have a very good recruiting department.
