This is always a special match for me.
As a kid, in the 50s, I used to visit an Aunt in Essendon and actually went to school there for a term. I didn't know much about footy except for my eldest brother playing for Myrtleford. They wore St. Kilda colours.
He and Dad barracked for Essendon and tried to get me interested but I just didn't like the jumper. Didn't particularly like the red, white and black either but when I saw my first black & white vertical stripes, I was hooked. Magnificent !!
I recently saw my big bro after many years and we got reminiscing about VFL/AFL and I thought I'd try the well worn, "Who kicked 5 goals in the 1990 GF?" on him. He didn't twig but, being quite good on footy history, was thinking deeply. He looked puzzled and said, "Mmm, I didn't think anyone kicked 5 that day. Was it Tony Shaw?"
All those years of being bored to death with Bomber talk faded well into the background when I told him the answer.
Beating them twice in one season ? Yes !! I'd like to see THAT. Can only think of one thing better. Beating them 3 times including the Granny.
C'morrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnn Maggies !!

Yes, it is special to beat the Bummers Donny. However 1990 eased a few tensions to a degree in regards to ultimate revenge. It just HAS to be, once in my lifetime, payback time for the Scum in a GF...please! Thats still my major passion..beating the Blues. However Bummers is a close second, starting this week. Kill 'em Pies!!!!!
Enjoy yourself. Its later than you think!

Pretty nervous about this one. They always rise for us, and, who knows, it could well be Hird's final match against us (I hope not, he is too good to retire just yet). But for our sake, we'd better win. They were very impressive against Brisbane, too.
When was the last time we defeated Essendon twice in a Home and Away season? We beat them once in 2003, 1998, 1997, 1996 and prior to that...1994, and of course, 1990. Anyone know? Was it 1988 (might be)?
Either way, just win. And rest Bucks, he looked a tad battle weary last week.
