match report pies v dees

Post by Ed from WA »

Im still hurting from 40 years ago when the dees beat us in a game we had won.
history repeats too often at our place.

I worked all day and had the radio turned off as there was NO live cover in this one eyed bloody state.
then when i got home the wife told me she had forgot to tape it.
thank GOD once again for foxfooty.

Ive now seen it although i did know the result by the time i saw it and it made the game a lot less enjoyable.

I actually thought our system up fwd in the first half was much better than when ANT is in the team.
we seemed to look for more options and didnt become ANT or TAZ centric.

As usual many easy shots at goal went astray when we should have made the gap too big to be closed.
Bucks and leon missed a few each, lokan missed a sitter, tarks missed an easy one and so it went.

then it seemed MM as is his want decided we were far enough in front to be able to defend it.

Melbourne kept a couple of players back for the last qtr for fresh legs so did we.
melb used theirs we didnt.

we got killed by white in the ruck in the second half.
Josh was ok up to half time.

As usual it was the non moves and the moves that MM made that are what have me scratching my head.

Lika was again our best player, melb showed us up for lack of pace when the rain stopped.
presti did a good job on neitz but at the end it was neitz who nailed us.
we had fresh legs on the bench and tired ones on the field. walsh for melb had played 4 minutes of the 3 qtrs then got heaps of it in the end.
im sure shaw could have done similar.

even so if cloke had marked in the goal square instead of spilling it and ven one of the easy misses goes thru the middle we win.

Ive never seen so many balls in dispute on the boundary line go to the opposition with so much ease as that game in the last half.

that was the biggest mystery to me.
why could they keep the ball in each time and run around us like we were rag dolls?
surely knocking it out wouldnt have been too hard?

another one that got away.

after barracking for us for 50 yrs im used to being beaten when well in front.
I realise we can never get far enough ahead.
Its time MM knew that too.
