The Match:
In what could be seen as the turning point for the season for both clubs, Collingwood should prevail over Carlton who was pittiful last week against Melbourne. Collingwood has been dissapointing so far this season having only won 1 match out of 6 whilst Carlton isn't doing much better having won 2 matches out of 6. The time is now for both clubs. A win is a must for eithers side. Colingwood will win. Read on to find out.
Carltons forward line has lost a lot of it's potency in recent times but it has recently been revived by Brendan Fevola. Fevola has had a wonderful season infront of the big sticks and it will be Shane Wakelins job to keep him quiet. Wakelin never gives in and never stops trying. He is the ideal match up for the enigmatic Blue. Lance Whitnall could also be thrown forward by Dennis Pagen. If he is, Prestigiacomo will most likely be used to stop big Lance. Shut down Fevola and Whitnall and shut down Carlton. It's easy isn't it? If young Steven Kenna is put back onto the side, Ben Johnson will probably get the job on him. In the middle of the ground, Heath Scotland will be pitted against his old side for the 1st time since he left at the end of 2003. 'Scooter' will have point to prove to Mick Malthouse, so he will be even more pumped up than usural. He will be tagged by Shane Woewodin who has been down on form so far this season, so tagging a player in form will help him get back into form. The other midfield dangers are Nick Stevens and Scott Camporearle. Many belevied that Stevens should be in the black and white this Saturday but he is on the opposing side. He is the blues midfield key, and will be tagged and scragged by Brodie Holland. Camporearle is not a vital for Carlton but has the ability to hurt an opposition. Paul Licuria will be thrown on to 'Campo' and will look to play off him by winning his own ball to hurt the Blues midfield. For the Magpies, Nathan Buckley will be tagged by David Clarke. In a crunch game for Clarke, he will be thrown into the deep end on the Magpie skipper who is returning from injury. Shane O'Bree and Mark McGough both had brilliant matches last week against the power and will have to be watched as will Brett Johnson, who has starred so far for the Blues. The loss of Scott Burns will also hurt the Pies, as his ability to win the ball and use it well will be sorely missed. In the ruck, Fraser, who was a late withdrawal last week, and Guy Richards will go up against Barnaby French and the new boy Adrian DeLuca. For once, Collingwood might have the ruck advantage. Up forward for Collingwood, the return of Chris Tarrant will be a huge boost for the Pies. Tarrant has been out of action since round 4 and his return to the forward line will also help big Anthony Rocca who has struggled when double teamed by the oposition. In his 150th match for Collingwood, big Rocca will look for a big match against the old enemy. If both Rocca and Tarrant kick 4 goals each we will win and win well. Cameron Cloke will also play a part. Cloke has looked the goodes in his 1st 2 matches and if he can continue to give a contest and kick a goal or two he has done his job. Alan Didak and Leon Davis also play a big part. They will most likely be manned up by Houlahan and Lappin, who constantly run off opponants. If we play threw 'Dids' and 'Magic' we could buy an extra 6 goals.
In the wash up, Collingwood should win easily. They are running into form and the Blues are coming off a big a loss. With Tarrant and Rocca kicking 4 each and McGough and Holland wiining 25 touches each, the Pies should win easily.
Prediction: Pies by 48 points.
