Lauren Jackson breaks US record

Post by Donny »

Jackson sets WNBA record

Australian centre Lauren Jackson has set a Women's National Basketball Association (WNBA) record with 17 field goals, scoring 34 points to lead Seattle to a 92-56 victory over Los Angeles.

Jackson's 17 baskets broke the old mark of 15 set by Houston's Cynthia Cooper against Charlotte in 1997.

The 34-point performance matched the WNBA season high and lifted Jackson, the hero of the Aussies' silver medal Olympic effort at Sydney, into the league scoring lead with 21.4 points a game.

Jackson is dueling Washington's Chamique Holdsclaw for the league scoring crown.

Holdsclaw, the 2002 champion with 19.9 points a game, is second at 21.0 points a game and the duel is the tightest scoring title fight in the league's seven-year history.

At 15-11, Seattle shares third in the WNBA Western Conference, dueling Minnesota and Sacramento for the last playoff spot.
