I wonder if there's been a Test series where the top 6 batsmen in the winning team all averaged over 58 and all scored centuries !

A Gilchrist - 282 @ 70.50 also 12 catches and 3 stumpings
J Langer - 483 @ 69
M Hayden - 379 @ 63.16 and 7 catches
D Lehmann - 353 @ 58.83
Bowlers
J Gillespie - 17 wickets @ 20.76
D Lehmann - 2 @ 28
B Lee - 17 @ 28.82
A Bichel - 11 @ 31.45
S MacGill - 20 @ 33.95
For the Windies, 2 batsmen averaged over 50.

i think you could also point out to clokey who bowled to "Punta" and who bowled to Lara. i think it goes a little like this,
Lara faced- bichel,McGrath,(that mullet guy);), Lee, Mcgill and hogg
Ponting- dillon, drakes, collins(the worst bowler in the world. lawson(their only good bowler) banks and samuels.
I think i rest my case

M8, he is a great (well, very good. He'd be considered 'great' if he averaged in the high fifties) batsman but has heaps to learn as a captain.
It's not good enough when you look to your skipper for some inspiration, when things aren't going so well, and he looks like he's wet his pants.
Look at the difference, in the 5th. ODI when he actually lead from the front. His body language was much better and so were his decisions. His players responded.
Plus, when he won the toss he grabbed the initiative and BATTED ! He also went in at first drop. Another positive and attacking decision.
He'd need more consistency for me to consider him the best, m8, but there are a few good signs. As things stand, Tendulkar is better and Ponting better than both.

i at no time, have doubted his ability to be, ThE BEST batter in the world, he has proven that he has awesome talents and has provided us with some awesome innings over the years, your point about his average is far off i think. I know some "GREAT" or even "CHAMPION" players that average in the fifties, i could name some but im affraid i could be going on all night.
As for his captaincy, sure steve waugh is a fantastic captain, but i havent seen him captain a team with not 1 1st class bowler, and an extreamly young team. HAVE U?? Lara is doing as gooder job as possible in my opinion, its hard to be agressive with a team like the windies.
Under Lara they will continue to grow and collect some experiance on the way.
TAKE THAT DONNY!

Well, m8, the only batsmen with an average over 55 are Gilly (59.12) and Sach (57.57). Dravid, Hayden and Punter all average better than Charlie.
Twice, in this whole Aussie tour has Bwian been aggressive as a skipper. Twice the Windies won. Same team as when they were thrashed in three Tests and 4 ODIs. Says something doesn't it, Clokey ?

As we discussed donny, and you should have known, not outs even most of them out except for Sachin. can you prove your stats on his agressive captaining for me. i think he's attempted, like most captains, to bee agressive, but you have to remember, its not easy captaining the team he is. Put any other captain in his possition and im sure they'd be doing it a little bit tough aswell.
