Collingwood in a fight to extend our MCG deal post 2023, with Richmond campaigning very loudly against our ability four our members to sit Level 2 in the Ponsford stand at away MCG games.

Not really a rumour…. Got an email from Craig Kelly today about it.

Pretty shit if we lose our seats in the ponsford in 2024… I’ve sat there for over 15 years!

I've felt there are more and more barriers to physically attending the game, yet the AFL is making it easier and easier to watch on TV.

The game is transitioning to a TV event.

Hopefully it's just a rumour but I am surprised by the lack of information about this injury.

A recurring injury to the shoulder doesn't bode well for a short term injury.

RUMOUR: Collingwood FC Selling Home Game

Post by DeadEyeDidak »

As posted by a pies fan on Bigfooty:

"To all my fellow Collingwood loving paid up members, I must bring to your attention a worrying rumour or piece of news brought to us by none other than the Presidents son, Tom Browne.

It starts at 12:25 from the below linked podcast.

https://omny.fm/shows/the-rub/tom-brown ... -with-furt

"Collingwood is interested, Craig Kelly is very commercial, interested in potentially taking one of their games interstate. Now you can call it selling or getting money from it, it would be highly profitable. Marry it up with an existing interstate game. EG Take a team up to the Gabba (for a Pies Home Game) then the week after play Gold coast (as an away game)"

Let me stress, this is a horrible outcome for Collingwood Members and our on field performance may actually take a dip. Why are we adding on unessecary travel.

The below is a break down of how our home and away season splits have been since 2012 (when the comp turned into 18 teams):

2012: MCG - 14 (9H 5A) Docklands - 3 (2H 1A) 5 Interstate
2013: MCG - 15 (10H 5A) Docklands - 2 (1H 1A) 5 Interstate
2014: MCG - 14 (9H 5A) Docklands - 3 (2H 1A) 5 Interstate
2015: MCG - 14 (9H 5A) Docklands - 3 (2H 1A) 5 Interstate
2016: MCG - 14 (9H 5A) Docklands - 3 (2H 1A) 5 Interstate
2017: MCG - 14 (9H 5A) Docklands - 3 (2H 1A) 5 Interstate
2018: MCG - 14 (9H 5A) Docklands - 3 (2H 1A) 5 Interstate
2019: MCG - 14 (9H 5A) Docklands - 3 (2H 1A) 5 Interstate
2022: MCG - 14 (9H 5A) Docklands - 3 (2H 1A) 5 Interstate
2023: MCG - 14 (9H 5A) Docklands - 3 (2H 1A) 6 Interstate (inclusive 1 Gather round)

I implore all members to be vocal against this proposal that Craig Kelly is running with and stop this in its tracks."

I'm absolutely fuming about this as a home and away VIC Collingwood Member... Fuming if this is turns out to be true.

Personally I'd be wrapped if they sheduled more games up here.
The game is the AFL, not the VFL.
If you moved a Sunday match, say ones against the bottom 4 Clubs that rarely draw big crowds, I can't see how outraged the fan base would be.
As an interstate member that can't use my membership privileges more frequently, I say bring it on.

I’m more upset about the run of graveyard Sunday slots we got this year - after the excitement of last season… I’d rather a prime time away game than 8 x Sunday 4:40pm slots in a row.

I have trust that the club are up to something here… if this is real, theres something in it coming back the other way. Don’t know if it would have something to do with the MCG seating kerfuffle? Our senior management is too experienced to just roll with something like this for no greater good.

We should never, ever play any home games interstate. It's bad enough that the 'G' is not really ours, but it's the closest thing we have to a home ground. Sure, in the short term we could get some extra dosh, but in the longer term it diminishes our club.

Next thing, there'll be a proposal to wear a different coloured guernsey as a marketing thing, to make us even more money. FFS, where does it stop? It's a slippery slope to oblivion if we weaken our culture. We are Collingwood ffs.

Why do we need more money? We can’t spend the money we’ve got without incurring the AFL’s wealth tax.

This would also be driven by the AFL wanting to 'expand' the game.

If they can persuade one of the big clubs to give up a home game to play somewhere like Tassie they would get a much better crowd than Roos or Hawks.

Members have already given up one home this year with the Gather round. Game vs Saints is listed as Pies home game.
