so cut we lost
we should of won had a good lead in a wet game
real dissapointed.
being 2-0 would of been a fantastic start.
would of been on top form wise and on the ladder
now we will be back with the rest of the pack,.
tough next couple of weeks could decide our year
got some winnable games coming up!

Our guys should have won by the preverbial mile,BUT the stop start antics of the Lions and also the assistance from the crook umpiring decisions didnt help at all.
The last 1/4 alone was 12 to 4 in favour of Lions and didnt help at all.
All in all the game was handed to Lions on a plate and they took it with silver serving...pretty pathetic umpiring,BUt is feel our blokes should have risen about this.Unfortunately they fell right into the hole and couldnt get out................
Richmond & Carlton next, both at the 'G' so should be interesting

Just back from the seconds match.
Still spewing about how our boys were treated last night. Disgusting effort by those umpires. I'm sickened by it
Ryan Lonie did well today ~ hit his target consistently.
Toovey saved a few goals, good dash out of defense.
Chris Bryan was a ruck/forward & did well.
Marty Clarke tackled well & had run into the forward line.
John Anthony is coming along nicely, played full-back today.
Ben Reid did a nice snap at goal in the last qu to seal the match.
Chris Dawes was at full forward for a while, did nice things.
Special mention to Phil behind the goals, who kept the crowd entertained with his antics.

Any more on Reid over four quarters?
Any mids do well (e.g. Isles)?

I was as disappointed as any over the umpiring decisions, especially 50 metre penalties for bad language, what the hell is that about? Do they expect players not to get emotional?! Especially over some of the totally outrageous free kicks they dish out! BrisVegas were helped in the last quarter, there's no doubt about it. It seemed that every time we had the run on, an ump would blow the whistle and hand the ball to the oppositon.
But anyway, I thought we played well despite not winning, the conditions were tough, the blokes were slipping and sliding, and just to manage kicking the ball straight in mud like that is pretty impressive, for my mind. Clarke would have been usefull, also perhaps Iles. Egan was just flat out terrible. The boy needs to grow a scrote and learn how not to turn the ball over. It's as simple as that. I'm just glad we only lost by two points. And I will say one thing, I am so, so sick of the cameras lingering on that butt ugly J.Brown, watching him strutt around, spitting into his hands like the pig he is, and scowling to try and look tough. I mean, fair enough, he is big, but he's also arrogant, full of himself and has freely admitted he hates Collingwood. I hope N.Brown buries him one day.

OH, I so agree.Zakal wrote:Johnson and Rhyce had patches where they were a liability...but both also had patches where they were real assets, and played crucial roles.
Egan however had one good kick for the night, and apart from that looked lazy and kept making the wrong decision.
Hung back when he should have chased, chased when he should have stood off...and i cant count the number of times he had his tackles broken...or was simply just stepped around.
I'd be dropping Egan for sure next week. Let him get back up to speed in the VFL.
Not criticising Pendles, but he does need to lift. 12 touches is not enough.
Now, the positives.
Didak - brilliant
Medhurst - ferocious
Heater - brilliant
Swanny - ditto
Wood - very surprised to only see 9 hit outs next to his name, must have had a lot of them to advantage because i thought his ruckwork was great.
Brown - take out Browns multiple shots on goal from bullshit free kicks, and i have him at about 1 goal 2. I dont think im getting to ahead of myself to say that Nathan beat Johnathon hands down. Again he received assistance from Maxxy and co, but countless times i saw Nathan fist away what would have been a certain Brown mark.
Absolutely fantastic, was thrilled to bits by Nathans performance.
In my opinion, he has beaten the two best forwards in the competition in consecutive weeks. If not the best, they are the most dynamic. First two games, and he has those scalps already. Hats off to you Browny.
oh...you know what else really sums up Browns approach to the game...ELEVEN 1%ers...the next best was 7. Thats the 2nd week in a row he has had the most on the ground.
Just home from Brisbane...........no voice................pressure game.....and we should be proud of our Boys!
I am so disappointed but they fought until the dying minutes of the game.
They are going to be GREAT!!

We need another Didak, so we've got one on down forward and one in the midfield. We need one more quality midfielder, and preferably one with speed. It might be time to promote Wellingham and see how he goes.
However, I reckon all we need really is for Pendles to find some form. Two bad games in succession is not good. He's no doubt adjusting to being tagged each week, but he's going to have to rise above it this week or else he too could find himself in the reserves. I've long been a fan of Egan, but i'm starting to doubt his worth. He should be dropped after last night.

I'm glad Mick is going to see Gieschen this week. Hope he gets some sense out of it, but I think it'll be nothing worthwhile. Should be some umps going back to the two's next week. I'd Hate to have the seasons fortunes hanging on rubbish performances like that.Zakal wrote:daicos35 wrote:Always a downer to lose. I'm openly biased and struggled with the umpires influence during the 4th. Why is punching the ground 50m? Not every expression is an attack on umpires authoriy. Harsh for mine.
But we had our chances, too many out of bounds in the last. Tough night for footy. Chris E let himself down, can't default on the rent and expect to continue to be offered houses. Been better in the dry.
The VFL game is important this week, like to see Chris Dawes and Shannon Cox put their hands up.
Top effort to all you 'Pie supporters who were in Brisbane. You looked great on the telly.
and if thats 50, why wasn't Merret or Charman for openly arguing against free kicks they were paid. Oldmate didnt even give the ball back on the full (despite only being 3m away) and still no 50.
Imo, every example listed was bullshit and i didnt see one legitimate reason for giving a 50 the entire night...but if they are going to pay them, be consistent ffs.

I actually think Mick should do this more often. Instead of bagging them in the papers or whatever, just sit down with them for a coffee or something and open a dialogue over our perceived issues.
Instead of saying they were wrong blah blah, simply seek clarification and explanation of the rules that give rise to the free kicks we have a problem with.
The absolute last thing we need is an "us vs them" attitude towards us from the umpiring fraternity.

After looking back at the game now - Clarke being in the side would have given us that difference for the win.
In the last quarter when we were getting knocked off the ball or stupid 10 metre long handballs that did not hit targets - they really cost us the game.
Watching Clarke (in 2007) he always was very hard at the contest and if no immediate option was on he would run with the ball instead of the R.Shaw or Johnson turnovers - that did cost us the game.
Next week he will definitely be in for Egan.
