Sheeds is the acknowledged "Trickmaster" of the AFL but I think the only thing he will be pulling out of his hat this Anzac day will be his swinging jacket to hide his head in at the final siren! The Bombers cannot cover Collingwood's form players all day and we can rely on MM to have our squad hungry, sharp, accurate and all-pervasive again. 22 rounds is a long slog but the early stages of the season are where it's vital to get consistent wins to stay in touch with the top and to establish psychological advantages over those teams we have to face in September.
Pies to win this time - 17 points.

We need to be careful not to get too cocky. Too many people around here are overly confident.

agreed joel...we are very overconfident. Essendons form has been very good. A narrow loss to the doggies with Matthew Lloyd injured is a fair effort. There is nothing to suggest that they will not win on Tuesday. We must go in as favourites but.

By the way...steve im writing up a match preview as we speak but its a short one...i got a lot of homework to do

A fair assessment of Collingwood's chances against Essendon this Tuesday leads to a reasonable degree of confidence in the outcome favouring the Pies.
Overconfidence is not necessarily a sign of rabid one-eyeness.
As so many good football judges have cautioned over the seasons though, let's just take it one game at a time!

First of all Troppo, welcome to the site. Secondly, another Nickster from Townsville...incredible!!!(hope you also support the Cowboys!). Thirdly, drop in and say g'day at the airport(security), one day!

As I've stated previously, we shouldnt go into this game half cocked. We have no reason to go all out defensive in this game (even if Diver was in).
The Bummers have more headaches than us and our forward line looks unstoppable. We will expose them, as they try to plug holes over the G. Pies by plenty!!!!

Thanks Skaman! Been in T'ville 18 months and found enormous Collingwood support - I guess because of so many southern migrants (defence force, mines, industry, tropical paradise, etc) - very keen support across all cultures which is great to see.
I have copied below a message I just sent to DaVe86 about Anzac Day and his preview (which is excellent):
Dave, excellent preview covering all bases!
I guess some of the things not easy to take in to consideration in a preview are the game plan dynamics and how they can influence how a team reacts and progresses positively. Take the first game against Adelaide where they slowed the game down once we got on a roll and just took charge of the pace through precision disposal. Hopefully MM has designed counter measures by now.
We know that Sheeds will rotate his interchange faster than a cyclatron and we will have to produce speedy match-up covers to blanket any advantages they may attempt to seize this way.
I would like to see Inspector Gadget drawn upfield as much as possible as he is the Don's defensive lynchpin - maybe seeing Pebs playing between the square and CHF (he can still kick them from there), assuming Fletch is given that minding role.
The depth and quality of our reserves is encouraging at this stage, we are playing with conviction and belief as a cohesive unit and I cannot see the panic buttons being pushed this Tuesday regardless of any early Bomber theatrics. Your suggested margin sounds about right.

You have to realise that not expecting to win is simply a psychological defense mechanism to ensure you're not hurt by the loss.

If the players were taught to think like that then we would all be up in arms. Why should our approach to supporting be any different? None of us are really, personally, devastated by a loss (not if you know what a real loss is). So we should head into every match with the highest expectations of our players, because if we lose then the anger and passion should drive us to demand excellence, and if we win we can enjoy the ride all the way.

Here's to victory, by a minimum of 30 points.
