We appear in the praccy games to be pretty rusty. This team hasn't played together for a long time. Expect glimpses of 2003 but not 4 quarters of great form. Don't worry if we don't win, its a long way back for a team that has had no stability for close to two years. Mind you, when we click I think we'll surprise alot of people.

B: Johnson, Prestigiacomo, Wakelin
HB: Clement, J.Cloke, Maxwell
C: Lonie, Buckley, Swan
HF: Lockyer, Rocca, Davis
F: Didak, Tarrant, Holland
R: Fraser, Licuria, O'Bree
I: (from) Thomas, T.Cloke, C.Cloke, Richards, Davies, Egan, Morrison
Can I just make a couple of points about this starting 18,
1.
these are the 18 players with most games experience at Collingwood
excluding Burns and Rhyce. (Chad and Cara being experienced players, but not for the Pies.)
I think that shows something of MM's thinking.
2.
If you play Bucks as a sweeper across half back and lockyer likewise
you have a 10 man defensive zone delivering the ball to Taz and Pebs up forward with Dids, Leon and Dutchy at thier feet (and Fraser Licca and O'Bree capable forwards as well) I think that looks a very interesting setup, and shows us something of MM's thinking also.
As for the Bench,
1.
3 have to go, thats the long and the short of it.
2.
On preseason form you couldn't drop Thomas
3.
IMHO Cam. Trav and Egan will be the unlucky ones...
Interesting naming Jason Cloke at CHB I reckon, really send the message to all and sundry what we hope for from C! this year.

I predicted we would win also, and comfortably, but I won't panic if we lose - I will just give up hope!!!uuuuu..... The LoneSTAR wrote:I'm expecting a win woe-is-me!!... but don't panic if we lose!
One thing I am looking forward to this year is recording all the Collingwood games on Foxtel IQ and being able to watch and keep them (only the wins of course!!)

Excellent preview DaVe86 - particularly your points about stopping the Cow's rebound from the back half and the importance of the ruck. I'm confident our forwards and selection can counter the former (e.g. Lockyer and Swan as you mention and as listed in the early line-up). However, the ruck worries me because we can't let their mids get a free ride. Ruck selection will be critical, but whether C2 or Richards or both, Josh's 10 or so minutes a quarter in the middle will be even more critical.
I'm not worried about the size of their mids as you mention, as Bucks and Licca are power players, but I know what you mean, especially given that Bucks and Licca are getting long in the tooth. This is another reason why we need C2 running into the square (and having stints on the ball), and Lonie to step up his physical presence.

Yep fair point...i think many who have seen me post would know that i am not Cam's biggest fan. In fact i think he is a dud...But on Monday i think his selection makes more sense than Guy Richards. Richards is out of touch and probably needs to show consistent form in the reserves. I can just see him been bowled over by Biglands on numerous occassions. Further, he is not a forward option like Cam Cloke is. For Richards to hold down a spot, he must be our number 1 ruck option because he is not as versatile as other ruckman. Therefore Cam and Fraser make sense to me. Frase is versatile whilst Cam will give an effort and match up physically with Biglands.
There's more to life than footy.........just not much more.

With the nuecleous of our 2002-2003 teams playing, we are in danger of facing similar problems. We were absolutely BULLIED in the ruck;particularly 2003. I like Backs/Like the forwards.Like the small blokes in the middle. Richards & Fraser are still beanpole Blow Away ruckman-if they don't stand up we have to unsettle the Forward structure by throwing in Rocca & throwing our best in the pivot-recall Buckley etc( like to see Bucks with very limited center square stuff now-utilise his kicking prowess off half back or center to half forward zone-he may be older & not as physically repelling but he is still the best field kick going around). I'd almost go for both Cam & Richards in the same team-rotate the shit out them if we have to-CAM for his bulk-Richards for his Boundary & leap. Give Fraser the Forward rucking duties & let him hurt with his goalling ability. I reckon we have most other areas covered. McLeod wont kick the 2nd best goal of the again-Collingwood by 9 points!

One thing different from last year we have just about a full list.Guys are going to play due to form not reputation or lack of numbers.I remember going to bulldogs game round 1 last year and see Fanning play in the ruck.Had no idea.We were never going to win that game.
I dont think we will win on Monday either but we wont be far from it.Only chance if key forwards dominate.Rocca Fraser and Buckley will impove as season goes hate to be a downer but thats my veiw.

The question needs to be asked - why wasnt Burns atleast in the 7 man bench instead of Morisson.....?
Does MM rate Morisson as more impactful on a game to Burns?
Or, Has MM had a change of mind since he wrote the following:
"I believe he's had his best pre-season since ive been here. He's running on top of the ground and using the ball very well - a must-have player in the midfield"
If Burns isnt injured, Mick, Then thats a big change of heart in the matter of weeks.
Beware the swooping Magpie.
