Here are some stats from the game:
Scotty Pendlebury (you star) had 33 disposals, 10 of which were contested, plus 11 marks. He had 82% effectiveness with those disposals, with ZERO clangers. He also had 7 clearances, 3 inside 50s, 7 tackles, 3 assists with only 78% time on ground. Brilliant Scotty.
Compare that with Joel Corey who was brilliant for the cats, clearly their best player. 35 disposals, 74% effectiveness, 1 clanger, 4 clearances, 1 tackle, 88% time on ground and only 1 assist. It was one of Corey's best... but I know who I'd rather!
Also, Wellingham in his first game had 17 disposals with 82% effectiveness as well, only 2 clangers, 3 inside 50s and 2 clearances. He also had 4 tackles, and had 78% time on ground, but spent most of it up forward where he was constantly ignored.

over the moon with the game. well done boys
feels so good to finally thrash someone. richmond was close but towards the end wasnt exactly a thrashing.
Some player reviews:
Medhurst - 9/10 unstoppable. simply unstoppable when he is this good.
Cloke - 7/10 he stood up, without rocca. happy with his performance. missed four, one from right in front, i have a feeling its a confidence thing. he has had a quite start to 2008 but this may just be the game he needed to get going
Thomas - 4/10 quite. that is all. i watched from tv though, so impossible to know how hard he worked off the ball, or how hard he was tagged
Pendlebury - back to his best. what a star
Cook - 6/10 pretty good for his fourth game. all of his possessions he looked very comfortable, and he showed good awareness in traffic
Wellingham - 6/10 solid debut. given that he was an emergency, i hope he is not dropped next week. really deserves a chance to back it up, and once he gets comfortable enough to find a lot of the ball, we could really really use the like of him in our midfield. you can tell, his disposals are class
O'bree - 8/10 as ever, hard working without much flare. on ya champ
Wood - 7/10 some of his tap work was first rate.
Fraser - 6/10 another solid performance from the captain. got hit a couple of times but never backed down
Brown - 8/10 this kid is amazing. its his 6th game, and yet he seems to be our most senior down back. i mean, whenever we were under pressure, in comes browny with a great mark to settle things down or a great clearing handball or kick. this guy is so professional.
Rhyce - 5/10 hmm having a hard time remembering his game, his kicking was at its worst though. but i imagine that he must have done an outstanding tagging job, i think the commentators said as much
Heath - 5/10 not his best, but still good
Clarke - 5/10 still doesnt look as polished as last year, but he is getting there
Goldsack - 8/10 champion kid. he got thrown in the half forward and immediately took marks and set up play and kicked one of his own.
Didak - 6/10 did he spend 100% of his time in the midfield?? he kicked one fantastic goal, but wasnt his most prolific game.
Wakelin - 8/10 solid game from the old man
Tarkin Lockyer - 8/10
Johnson - 6/10
i know im forgetting some people

dons stopped midway through the second qtr up and till then they were good then it was atraining drill. Mick well coached had to come up with something different with rocca out and he did now the next question do you leave him out as we kicked 20 goals?
Afew boys who were down got some touch back next 3 weeks will be the test. Medhurst great game but leave that fancy stuff at freo as it could come back and bite you on the bum.

Nice way to play back into some form and confindence.
Really liked the look of Wellingham, good poise, second efforts, good disposal. lets hope he gets a lot more serious game time this year.
Medhurst and Pendlebury made the the most of some insane match ups.
Its good to see the form line of 2007 starting to re-emerge.
It was a great win and I'm very excited anticipating this form carrying over in our future games.
I wonder... does this win snuff out the candle of negativity?

There are always plenty of Magpie fans willing to over ANALise a game guys. Let them wollow in their self loathing while we enjoy the moment and all the great things that happened yesterday. They will see the light one day...or maybe not.ktszyu1 wrote:Agreed. The three you quoted were way off the mark.surfer1 wrote:

like i said, having a tough time remembering his game. my memory is shithouse, so whenever i review a game a day or so after it happened, individual players performances are so hazyspoljar wrote:Mate, please tell me you are taking the piss here regarding his kicking yesterday?Kingswood wrote:Rhyce - 5/10 hmm having a hard time remembering his game, his kicking was at its worst though. but i imagine that he must have done an outstanding tagging job, i think the commentators said as much

I think your memory is fine. Rhyce's effectiveness is being let down by poor disposal.
Yesterday, one of the comical moments (1st Q I think) was when Shaw handpassed to a worm; noboby else was nearby.
Heath also two awful clangers first quarter, one led to an Essendon goal the other was just an awful inside 50 straight to the opposition. These were not under real pressure.
Both were better yesterday but still have some way to go.
It was a great team effort with the running, backing up and intensity back at last, but honestly, have we ever seen such a poor, insipid and heartless performance from any Bomber team?

After the epic draw comes the decisive knockout!

yup, im still very happy with rhyce's performances this year. he runs as hard as anyone and how many times when we took it out of defence, you would find rhyce on the wing making plenty of space for himself.
dont get me wrong - you cant fault his endeavour, and he has been one of our strongest players this year so far. I am very impressed. but with that said, he does let himself sometimes with his kicking.
Johnson too, but he is starting to get into some form. & and kicked that beautiful running goal from 50 IIRC
For anyone who wants to spend time on all the negatives though, just think with all these criticisms of our games...we still won by more than 10- goals. imagine when it all clicks!!
