JA is unlucky, but it makes total sense for him to make way for Clarke, and to retain Toovey ahead of Goldsack. As Frankiboy has pointed out, you need extra midfield depth against the Blues, and Toovey is an extra run-with option alongside Rhyce Shaw to combat any one of Judd, Stevens, Murphy, Scotland, Carrazzo, Gibbs or Simpson. Goldsack is a fine young player but his role at this stage is as a defender and once the Fev is covered, that's not so much of an issue. Clarke can also run with an opponent, but is also a very dangerous offensive player in his own right - any opponent who doesn't respect him will get hurt, as Shane Crawford found out last year.
If we can break even in the midfield and get the kind of rebound out of defence that Heath Shaw provided last week, the Blues won't be able to control our attack. But if the boys aren't switched on at the stoppages, they could find themselves under siege pretty quickly.

Agreed. But the difference between Toovey and Goldsack is large IMO. It could be the difference between someone like Fisher kicked 4, instead of 1 on Goldy. And Goldy's run off half-back is priceless.frankiboy wrote:I'm tipping Goldsack isn't 100%. Plenty of time for him to slot back in, I dare say Carlton's forwardline wouldn't command our best back setup so probably just taking extra precaution
Nonetheless, I hope Tooves proves himself. All the best to the kid. He wasn't terrible last week.

Tooves wont play on Fisher - we've got Harry O and Maxwell in front of him for that job. Clarke might run with Carazzo, interesting one, didn't think of that before. I still like Racer on Judd, nice and simple for him - just get 20 tackles!
Once they put Waite on Cloke, they have to put Sentana on Rocca. Oh no. Rocca to kick 8, Pies by 40 and Fev benched by 3 quarter time for trying to change jumpers with Wakes!

To be honest, i dont mind Toovey in against the lower ranked teams who play attacking footy. He has pace and a defensive aspect. Shut down some of the front runners and the depth runs thin.
No worries in been conservative with Goldsack, as long as there is no secret knee injury from that clash.

I think we'll have to be mindful of Jared Waite. He will go to Rocca, and Jamison to Cloke.
Waite will run off Rocca and try to create a lot of rebound...Rocca wont keep up. We'll just have to be mindful of this. Perhaps play Rocca really deep.

This one's about Greg Swann...let's make him realise the mistake he made in leaving Collingwood. It's about Chris Judd. When he said he was coming back to Melbourne he made it clear that he wanted to be in a team that's gonna play finals and win premierships. If he hasn't already, tomorrow he's going to realise what a mistake he has made.
Judd playing for Carlton in this decade is like Buckley playing for Collingwood in the late 90's. A great player in a mediocre team.
From the early 90's up until 2001 I don't remember beating Carlton very often. Now it's time to make them for our boys to make their supporters not be able to remember the last time they beat us.
We don't need you Swanny and Juddy. Time to suffer.

That input matched my default category. Can we get back to business? Do you still it?tomoleary wrote:This one's about Greg Swann...let's make him realise the mistake he made in leaving Collingwood. That is a very original thought. Tell me a story.
