Really fantastic article by Dermie.
And its true, not only does Nathan have the physical attributes to be one of THE most dangerous backmen (height, build, leap, super speed), he also seems to be very footy-smart.
The classic example from last week was playing on the stronger more experienced pavlich without going for touch so he could use his speed to strike from a distance.
The classic example for last night was when, after doing everything he possibly could to run brown under the ball, or fist it away at the last second....a big high long-bomb came in that was perfectly suited to J.Brown in the wet....N.Brown trapped J.Brown about 2m off the perfect flight of the ball, then just waited for J.Brown to manhandle him...which he did...straight into the path of the ball and our browny too the mark.
He knew he couldn't out wrestle Farmboy, so he used it to his advantage. If he keeps this up, he will very soon be unstoppable.

Always a downer to lose. I'm openly biased and struggled with the umpires influence during the 4th. Why is punching the ground 50m? Not every expression is an attack on umpires authoriy. Harsh for mine.
But we had our chances, too many out of bounds in the last. Tough night for footy. Chris E let himself down, can't default on the rent and expect to continue to be offered houses. Been better in the dry.
The VFL game is important this week, like to see Chris Dawes and Shannon Cox put their hands up.
Top effort to all you 'Pie supporters who were in Brisbane. You looked great on the telly.

Positives from last night.
- Nathan Brown again was outstanding, our next Presti and atm he is on track for All Australian lol
- The clearance work by Burnsy, Davis, Obi and the ruck work by Fraser and Woody was top class
- Swanny and Dids were exeptional whilst Thomas and the Shaw boys also played well
-Overall no one can really be faulted besides...
Negitives
- I know everyones saying it but Egan should be dropped, if he could use it well he'd be bloody awsome cause he can find it but he just struggles to use it and doesnt put is body on the line
- Sorry to say it but Cloke had a dog of a night, seriously did he get a touch after 1/2 time, also Pendles was a little dissapionting
Next week back at the 'G hopefully the wheather is a little better
We have to drop Egan and IMO bring in Benny Reid

I want Clarke and Reid in the side, we needed just one good kick from a HBFlanker in the last 4-5 minutes and we would have won.
Clarke may not get a lot of ball, but his disposal is like a razor cutting oppo teams in half. We need him and his disposal, i couldnt beleive MM and co dropped this kid. SKILL and DISPOSALS in the wet are essential, wtf where they thinking, he has earnt his right to hit form while playing seniors, he kept us in the cats game. It cost us 4 points.
Hats off to every player last night, well done. Excellent hit out and gutsy effort.
Goodby Egan, still no defensive pressure, tackling was shit house. Egan needs to realize a solid takle and good defensive pressure does more damage than a 30-40 meter kick. No room for a player who lacks that basic concept.
Bring back clarke and unleash chopper to straighten us up.
We are on the right track, this could be the year, but we need to iron out a few bugs, and replace rus with another tall.

Interesting to hear what Mick had to say after the game:
''It was good to have Scott Burns back, but it was good to still expose young players, as they (Lions) have, some very good young players, but it's important to rebound and I think the importance of those rebounds is due to the good leadership out there, Burns, O'Bree, Maxwell etc.''
''I'm not going to be harsh on those players, the conditions weren't great,'' he said.."We had the ball in there a lot of times and probably should have been better equipped to score.
''The game statistically was pretty even. I didn't think there was any great momentum shift, maybe the three-quarter time break, but I wouldn't draw on that."
On Brown:
''It's always difficult to play on a champion. I think one of the lessons there is that he played on him. He'll have another story to tell and another chance to improve his game. I thought he battled hard against a champion."

There is room in the AFL for outsiders....but they should have pristine disposal and a good work ethic. Unfortunately EGAN has neither of these.
Until his disposal gets upto AFL standard, he should be dropped.
The one goal he kicked was a give me by the umpire. How the umpire gave Egan a free kick is beyond me. It was the softest attempt at a mark ive ever seen, he basically invited the defender to spoil.
Its very tough coming back from a knee injury and stepping back to top notch....and lets face it...Egan is not a wet weather footballer. But that is still no excuse for some of his tackling efforts tonight and his work rate.
Ill excuse his first kick in the game which went 10 metres backwards to an open Brisbane player....I'll excuse some of his other terrible kicks. But what i wont excuse was his work rate and defensive pressure.
Mick made a terrible blue not replacing Egan with an in and under when he saw the weather and the state of the ground. Egan is a dry weather player.

The umpires crucified us yet again. If anyone doesn't believe they cost us the game, have a look at a tape of the last quarter.Brisbane got their last three goals as a result of soft free kicks-two directly in front of goal, and the last when Johnson fell foward with the ball and staged for a free kick in the middle of the ground which led to Adcock kicking the winning goal. Also,i think Travis Cloke's injury might have cost us the game as well.He couldn't run at all in the last quarter, and the result could have been very different if he had run out the game.Selection mistakes cost us big time too-Clark would have made a huge impact in those conditions and would have been a better bet than Egan.

This is Dave's brother talking...........( I know his password )hey guys new to the site, but i watched the game and thought i needed to vent some frustration. Wet weather football, umpires need to let the game go a little more.
Chris Egan can do some good things occasionally, and i stress occasionally.
But he doesn't stick his head over it and is way too soft. He needs to grow a pair, or pack his bags.

Won't mention the umps again, it's just too annoying.
On Egan, maybe the coaching department could put together a highlights package just of Burnsy's efforts at the contest in the 1st qtr; he came out leading by example as we would all expect.
Put the DVD on Egan's pillow and tell him to watch it until his eyes bleed.
Plenty of positives though from last night. I think we're travelling pretty well. We've got a ruck combination coming together, our clearance work is improving, we have the makings of possibly a gun CHB, Daisy is getting close to blowing a game apart, and it was great to see so much black & white in the crowd. One of the papers said it almost seemed like a pies home game. Great effort!

Iles has been in good pre season form and could have suited him last night, and was Egan brought in to be the outside finisher type player, be cause if so he ain't finishing nothing
Marty would have thought it was just like home and probably would have played a blinder, but we played pretty good and aren't we the second youngest playing list in the AFL, after all it was in Brisbane

and if thats 50, why wasn't Merret or Charman for openly arguing against free kicks they were paid. Oldmate didnt even give the ball back on the full (despite only being 3m away) and still no 50.
Imo, every example listed was bullshit and i didnt see one legitimate reason for giving a 50 the entire night...but if they are going to pay them, be consistent ffs.
