I have to say it again - What a game!!! Another exciting & impressive win!!!
Rhyce: I'm getting increasingly fustrated with seeing Rhyce end up on the ground at EVERY contest!!
Swan: Love it how he can find another gear!
Davis: Great game!! Not only for the mark or his goals,.. although they were all particularly good!! - but he really made an effort to get to every contest!!
Rocca: Terrific! Actually, apart from some wayward kicking he has generally been in good form this year!! Friday night he effected a couple of excellent 1%er's [great tap to someone in the pocket!], ran himself ragged to apply defensive pressure & took a couple of really strong marks!
Pendles: I say it every week but how good is he!!!
Rhyce: I'm getting increasingly fustrated with seeing Rhyce end up on the ground at EVERY contest!!

Swan was brillant he never stops trying. Very happy with Pendles and the big Bloke Rocca and Leon were both amazinng. I thought Maxwell did some great gutst things along with the ruler of the hard knocks Scott Burns. I love the grit we are playing with we owe melbourne some pain lads Deep hurting Pain! Time to kill lads!

I'm a big fan of Toovey, even as recently as last week calling for him to be kept in the side.Neil Appleby wrote:Toovey is brave and committed but his decision making on Friday was poor.
However, after Friday night, I'm wondering if he does need a break at Willy. While he has been excellent, and contributes something every game, he is starting to look a little tired out there.
I just hope that if he goes back to Willy he can star and push for selection again very soon.

I agree. I think the requirement to maintan team balance means it comes down to Holland or Licca, not both - and against the faster sides, such as Footscray, probably neither one. Too many slow mids in the side and a Footscray or even an in-form Freo will cut us up badly.Neil Appleby wrote:
I think the young guns maybe overtaking Holland and Licca too. As much as I love Licca, he's gonna find it difficult to break back ito the team. Holland continues to be largely ineffective.
Rude Boy makes a good point: Holland has improved a little with every game, so I guess you have to take that into account. On balance, we have seen Licca in the twos and Holland in the seniors, perhaps we should look at them the other way around (i.e., play Licca against Melbourne) and then decide who has the front running.
The think I liked about Rhyce's game was his sense of responsibility after quarter time. You could just about see him thinking "Oh-oh, Heater is injured and Jimmy isn't here and Presti is carrying an injury - forget running it into attack the way I love to, Thomas and Swannie can give us run, but someone needs to get back into the goal square and do the one-percenters the way that Clem and Heater do when they are playing".Neil Appleby wrote:
Not sure about Rhyce's game though. I initially thought his game was pretty mediocre. I'll have another look.
Rhyce isn't a last line of defence player, he's an attacking flanker, not a natural-born back pocket, but he saw the job that needed doing and gave it his best shot. And, on the whole, succeeded. When he failed, it was often through not having enough reliable backups there to help. BTW, did anyone else notice Goldie doing more and more last-line of defence stuff as the game wore on? Now there is a fast learner!
Lone Star, yes, I agree, Rhyce needs to learn to keep his feet more. Has he always played like that, or is this a post-knee reconstruction thing? Maybe he's afraid of doing another knee.

Yep have to agree again on Goldie.............just love the way he is playing. Playing well beyond his experience or years. Has a real footy brain.
It's so exciting watching this team develop....win or lose it's all a learning curve.
This week another big test. I can see it now....one win and the Mormons are calling themselves tough and impressive.
"We'll influence the eight" crows the Reverend.
Well....just a sec boys...it's one out of ten you've won.
Time for a really big win......big stage, big crowd (watch the pathetic 'loyal' Demon fans come pouring back this week) and another big test for the young kids.

Tooves does need a break, he seems to be running out of steam. A week with Williamstown on top of a 10 day break with another two weeks following will have him ready to roll for the second half of the season.David wrote:I'm a big fan of Toovey, even as recently as last week calling for him to be kept in the side.Neil Appleby wrote:Toovey is brave and committed but his decision making on Friday was poor.
