watched most of the games this year no doubt our best 4 qtr effort all season(eagles game not far behind). Back 6 rebounded superbly moved the ball well.
trav well played kept presenting keep working on the disposal you will be great. Rocca please pass off when you are inside 50 when you are to far out have a shot but well played. Big Al welcome back still got the dancing shoes. Bryan first time I have seen him play looks strong and got his hand to the ball he is not home yet but made an impact for sure.
Bp silent achievers award harry and cox, cox has not done a thing wrong yet and has impressed. Harry was not sure on the match up with lucas but well coached mick.
Heath, rhyce, tarks nice tackling, burns thomas, ewell played.
now for the chardonnay set.

After watching us lose last week I thought here we go we are going to get spanked. Instead we turn it around. I am trying to give up the drink and the Pies make it hard. Good win, we still have not beaten anyone worth ranting about but beating the bombers on a big day is always good.
Bryan is the aggressive ruckman we need. Once our players get use to his hit outs the better he will be.

watched most of the game until Ch 10 went off the air....the first 1/4 was all Scum and umpiring,BUT then all of a suddent the guys came to life and gave the 'scum'the lesson that they deserved...a beating.
I was very proud as usual to be a PIES supporter and even my mrs went out and brounght me a 'Magpie' plaque which is hanging proudly in my computer room.....
Great win.'suck eggs' all the eggspurts that tipped 'scum' and as for Robert Walls....GO BITE YOUR BUM...you arrogant 'scum' supporter.
Comments at the end by Shaw were excellent and lets see the new & old guys show the rest of the AFL how it is done.

Bloody wrapped, we should of buried them Harry ripped Lucas a new one! Burnsy was brillant as always, Heath, Rhyce and Dale fantastic. Rocca and Travis presented well but have to learn to shoot straight, they would be shocking drive by shooters! I loved hearing those windy hill sooks crying I gave them a mighty song ! Also well done to Lockyer! A great effort but we should have smashed those soft pack of peroxided pansys!

Great Game!!! Was nice to see many of the players sitting in the crowd in the Ponsford stand, not all together, but in dribs and drabs. Only disappointing thing I thought was that when the Diggers were taken around the ground in the cars, Lonie and his mrs didnt stand up and acknowledge them like the rest of the crowd. Very disrespectful and disappointing!!!
I know this is not the site for politics, but let me tell you that I stood and applauded the diggers from WW2, but I sat down when those from the Korean and Vietnam wars came around, because I am ashamed of Australia's role in the slaughter of millions of Indo-Chinese, in wars we should not have been involved in, just as we should not be in Iraq today. Don't get me wrong, I don't blame the soldiers themselves, but our involvement in these wars should not be celebrated. Let me tell you that an uncle of mine was conscripted and forced to go to Vietnam, and he feels the same as I do. ANZAC day should be a solemn commemoration of the lives lost in wars, and a reminder of the horror of war. It should not become an opportunity for nationalist jingoism and hyped up militarism. I know I'll cop heaps of abuse from others for my views, but it's something I feel strongly about.Magpie 42 wrote:Great Game!!! Can't see your logic Rudeboy.
So you value the sacrifice of those Aussies only in wars that suit you?
So let me see, a guy who loses a leg in WW2 gets applause from you but the Vietnam or Iraq Digger in a wheel chair would be ignored?
Isn't the sacrifice of the individual the same?
Just for the record, I was an anti-war demostrator in the Vietnam years, but still respect the sacrifices of the individual soldiers as I do the Diggers in Iraq who definitely should not be there.
On Anzac Day we don't applaud the war but the individual who made the sacrifice.

Rude they where there for Australia, its not their fault. They where conscripted to goto war so they went, they deserve the same amount of respect the ANZACS received. Anyone one of us could have been in nam, not because we wanted to go and kill people but the Australian government drafted us and sent us into war. So please next time try and show them some respect.

I too saw that Lonie and his blonde bimbo didn't stand and acknowledge the diggers and was totally disgusted by it.RudeBoy wrote:I know this is not the site for politics, but let me tell you that I stood and applauded the diggers from WW2, but I sat down when those from the Korean and Vietnam wars came around, because I am ashamed of Australia's role in the slaughter of millions of Indo-Chinese, in wars we should not have been involved in, just as we should not be in Iraq today. As for your comments RudeBoy, I'm also highly offended by what you have written in regards to those who fought in the Vietnam and Korean wars.
NO ONE IS CELEBRATING THE WARS. Anzac Day and Rememberence Day are to acknowledge those that fought in the Wars, whether they were conscripted or volunteered, not the actual War.
My father fought in the Korean War. Almost every year I march with the Korean Vets on Anzac Day (haven't for the last 2, but will be again next year) and many, MANY times, South Korean people have come up to me, my mother and many of the others that are marching to THANK US for our committment to helping them by being part of the UNITED NATIONS FORCE that went over there to fight the North Koreans.
You tell me that the North Korean force isn't a danger even now. Their People are starving, yet they can create Nuclear Weapons.
Now, back to the topic.... What a great win by our boys. The new guys are still impressing me more and more each week. My daughter came along, who said she's not barracking for anyone, but there she was, jumping up and celebrating every goal and great piece of play that we won (maybe, just maybe, she will concede the fact that she really loves the pies. lol )

As people said before the game, possibly a season defining game. Well I think it was, not so much for the actual win, but for the spirit shown and the continued rise of our young players.
Can you imagine how O'Brien, Shaw, Cox, Dick, Toovey as well as Thomas, Pendelbury, Cloke must have felt. That's 8 out of 22 players either 21 or under.

This could develop into a long drawn out debate, which will change nobody's views I'm sure. So here's my final comment.
I feel enormous sorrow for the loss of lives of Australian soldiers in all wars. The same sorrow I feel for all people killed in war. But I cannot bring myself to celebrate their actions, when I consider their actions at the time to have been so grossly obscene. I certainly am not blaming the individual soldiers, but I cannot applaud their role in wars which I feel so strongly were unjust in the extreme. All I'm trying to point out is that we each react, feel and respond differently to commemorations of war, and I think we should acknowledge that everyone is entitled to their own viewpoints, without demanding that we all respond the same way. I only raised it because a comment was made about others not standing and applauding.

By all means, let's celebrate a great win but let's not get too carried away. What it means for me is that the logic of playing the kids is now unquestionable. It's taken MM a while to catch on but now he's gone public, not just about the kids in the side, but those who aren't. He singled out (from the back page of today's Herald Sun):
Good. Let's get on with the journey.
I was a bit disappointed that Ben Reid didn't take his place as expected but, with Rocca and Cloke, particularly Cloke who was in great form, aided by one of the resting Fraser/Bryan, we gave Essendon some serious tall forward problems to deal with. I though Fletcher, who was under an injury cloud and in doubt right up to the last minute, was nowhere near as damaging as he usually is, being forced to stay back rather than play at CHF and make his damaging runs out of defence. However, after the public "word" from MM, it's clear Ben will play sooner rather than later.
This win came from the young blokes: Heater, Thomas, Pendles, Cloke, Cox and Harry, in particular. As always when the big games come around, Leon and O'Bree went missing. I've got no time for either of them and it would be good if MM bit the bullet and got rid of them. There's no point having blokes around who only win the ball in minor games. Repeated big game failures means "passenger" and we don't need passengers at this point in the side's development.
Cloke played possibly his best game to date. He was always presenting, took a number of contested marks and topped the "goal assists" stat. Even when he made mistakes, his 2nd and 3rd efforts usually got the ball back. I'm impressed with Shannon Cox. He's somewhat unobtrusive but picks up plenty of the ball and is a damaging kick. Bit of a tough nut, too. I thought Harry came of age yesterday. Initially, I thought Lucas would kill him, but I also read in the paper that Tuddy has taken young Harry under his wing, making him a lot harder. It showed yesterday. Thanks, Tuddy. Early on, I thought Daisy would win the medal. Boy, is this kid totally fearless. Showed a touch of a mean streak, too! Wasn't fazed when McPhee dished out retribution, either, although I bet that punch to the back of the head hurt more than his own backhander. Pendles ought to win the Rising Star. He's got it in spades. Not overly fast, but his evasive skills make up for that. Uses the ball extremely well, too. He didn't have an ineffective disposal on the day.
Bringing in Chris Bryan for Guy Richards was well overdue. Again, I'm not getting carried away; Bryan was good, showed some aggression at the ball, got his share of the hitouts but was especially productive around the ground. It's been a long while since we've had a ruckman other than Josh who can take marks, run and boot the ball. Played nicely when resting up forward, too. Can lay a tackle, to boot.
I have to give credit to Lockyer, too. When he tackled McPhee head-on midway through the last, I have to admit, I didn't think ke had it in him to lay that tackle. It was a bonecruncher and he was giving away 11cm and 8kg. Well done, Tarks.
Now we have a ten day break before we take on Adelaide in Adelaide. Big, big game. Will tell us exactly where we are this season.
Furthermore, on page 100, Mike Sheahan said, "The educated word out of the Lexus Centre in recent times says the club will be much better next year and ready to strike in 2009-10. On exposed form, they will be better quicker than anyone expected.""The game was certainly in the balance maybe midway through the last quarter and I just had this flash of who wasn't playing, " Malthouse said.
I'm not talking about Nathan Buckley. In my mind flashed Tyson Goldsack and Sharrod Wellingham and Ben Reid and Nathan Brown and Ryan Cook and I thought, "We are on the right track here".
"We were playing young players today. They are all expected to hold up and in our ranks we have some really exciting kids that can put further pressure on that side and make this side a pretty good one. That's what makes today important for us. We've still got some terrific young kids to come through"
