Nathan Brown. Though in saying that, is he injured?

What about Reid?
Watched both of those boys for the last month and neither is ready for AFL. Brown was out injured last week and hasn't impressed yet, Reid looks lively, but skills aren't up to standard.

Doubt they'd chuck both in, they're simply so raw, and would need another month to six weeks with Willy before they're mentally (and physically) up to it.

Brown's fit, AFIK. Was moving freely around the ground () today.

Reidy'll take time, don't forget he only qualified for the draft age by two days last year, he'll need time. Do we, as supporters, have the patience? I do.

I saw bits and peices of the match to day, I thought it was a good contest until the las qtr. After the match port said there fitness was the best its been maybe it does not rain in arizona I am still not convinced of altitude training. Culprit if you were disapponited in the skills maybe you did not know it was raining most of the game have you ever tried kicking a wet slippery football with pressure around you? I think your comments are a bit harsh. The cornes and burgoyne brothers killed us in the last qtr we had no one to match them.
Clearances were a problem today normally we have been pretty good in that department even if we don't win the hitouts fraser and richards were out muscled by lade today.
This wed. against essendon will test the charactors of the players again the blokes we are remembering on anzac day probably did't complain about injuries or only had 4 day break between gunfire I think we can turn it into a positive.

Yesterdays game was a ripper, good to see some wet weather fotty back.

Hard to over analyze the game, i though it was always going to go down to the wire.

The thing that went wrong for us was Dale, Burns and Licca limping off with in 5 minutes of each other, coincedently Port kicked 4 goals in that 5 mins.

We were unlucky not to be within a kick trowards the end the game.

We tried our guts out today with no reward for the effort.
Hopefuly that'll come against Essendon.

Unfortunatly we had a hard slog in the wet, Essendon had a win in the dry, which is going to make ANZAC day hard for us.

those calling for cloke's head should stump up and say who they want to replace him with. it doesn't make any sense to ignore the conditions yesterday. it was never going to be a good day for him. early in his career a rocca would not have even got a touch on a day like that. cloke has been ordinary this year but i disagree with those that reckon he's stupid. i think at times he does some clever set-up work. maybe there's other times when it takes a while for the message to get from the brain to the body. the idea of throwing him at chb for a while might have merit, depends who he'd be playing on i suppose.

i thought cox was good. you know how newcomers are rushed sometimes and unload the ball too quickly, i reckon he shows that trait of good footballers, he's thinking ahead and he seems to have time and space.

toovey did enough to keep his place. I would be disappointed to see either of these guys left out.

the rest has already been said. an independant observer would look at that game and say that one team got absolutely smashed in the ruck and that was the difference. is bryan back from his finger injury ? is he playing at willy this weekend ?

and i thought it was a great game.

Where are all the retire Scott Burns clowns hiding?

Sometimes Collingwood 'supporters' make me sicker than listening to Bitchmond fools.

You idiots always need a scape goat and this year it is Travis. Effectively a second year player with just over 30 games.

Nothing like a dissappointing loss to bring soft cocks out of the woodwork.

Wet weather footy is great to watch (a mongrel to play though) - Burns and Wilson was a classic battle - two hard heads and giving it everything.
I think therefore I think - I think

Thanks JAJH and Johnno, thats why I asked the Q. I hadn't seen either play but wasn't sure.

I saw them both yesterday and they are big unit's. Mind you, I think they wouldn't do any worse than our CHF out there at the moment.

Just adding to Lukes comments.
The umpires are killing this game by over doing it. They draw way too much attention to themselves. Also, and I have said this before where do they get off calling players by names and nick names. To me this is the first sign of unprofessional attitude. Sure we all know who is who in the Footy world and yes they spend a lot of time with players but they are not team mates and thus should be calling them by number and team not 'your kick johnno'. It may seem trivial but it does help to maintain a sense of impartiality towards certain players or teams. The other thing floating around is the Umps interpretation 'THERE IS NONE' the law is the law and that is it. For instance I am forever getting pissed off with players being tackled and dropping ball at their feet only to have called play on and an opposition player allowed to come in and scoop up the ball. This happened yesterday on many occasions and went unnoticed. But then in the 3rd in the Snorts 50m arc pendles picks up ball tackled by Cornes ball comes out...Burns was away with it, Pendles called for dropping cornes passes off to mahony and port goal. This is what is frustrating in that this was done all day and only called up once in a crucial time at a crucial position on the ground.

Also what is this crap with Rocca being reported. I will say it was great hip and shoulder and should not have even been penalised. But alas the umps see as dangerous(even though legitimate). Basically these kind of hip and shoulder hits have been eliminated in AFL. However watching a VFL game the other night I saw a similar hit and went unnoticed. The Umps are killing this great game and as soon as someone recognises this fact we may see the game return to its past glory. And the sooner we get rid of this ridiculous hands on player in front the better, and each week we see a different interpretation of it. So either enforce it on every occasion or scrap it.

Luke great read mate and I hope I have done justice to what you have stated.
Lastly I want to say how proud I am of the effort by the boys. That game was a cracker and we played well all game except for maybe 20 min. And that lost us the game.
Burns was great, Shaws were fantastic, pendles is a star as well as thomas, and Rocca showed more heart than i have seen from him for a long time. I just can't help but think how different that game would have been with class from Bux, Dids and Brodes. Because in the end that is what we lacked just that little bit of class and finishing, which you would expect from playing inexperienced players.

Go Pies
All this may be summed up in one word - CHARACTER - and if that is not worth developing, nothing is.

FWIW I was really impressed with the effort put in by most of the guys. I can't believe how well Cox went for a second gamer, he just looks like he belongs and Dale Thomas is a star already. Watching the game on TV without knowing the scores, even Robbie Walls was lauding Thomas. Comments like "this kid can play anywhere" and "Dale Thomas is a beauty" had me in complete agreement with him for probably the first time.

When Scott Burns dies he should be stuffed and put on display in a glass case at the lexus centre and his heart should be in a case next to it. I reckon it would be bigger than Phar lap's.

I thought our backline did well, the Shaw's were sensational, our mids put in a heap of effort but with the exception of Pebbles for 1 quarter, we just didn't have a forward line. We would continually win the ball in the back line and move it to half forward to hit no one.

Pebbles is always going to be up and down. If he could play 4 quarters of his best footy he would be a dominant force but he doesn't and won't ever. We have to accept that and get some more support. Unfortunately at the moment, he is the team barometer. When he's up we play well, when he's not we don't.

Disappointing to lose a game that was there to be won, but thought our effort, intensity and tackling was great all day. Port just had that extra bit of polish when it mattered.

There was a point in the 3rd qtr when I think we were up by about 7 or 8 points, the ball was pinballing around in our forward zone and nobody had the poise to make the killer play (too bad pendles wasn't nearby). Instead the ball came back to OB about 40m out and he puts up one of the worst pie floaters you'd ever see. Port gets it clear and minutes later they've goaled and instead of a 13 pt lead it's back to stalemate. From then on Port had the momentum and we never got it back.

As a pie fan though, there was plenty to like about watching our guys having a red hot go. Daisy and Burnsy's fearlessness in the last qtr was awesome.
