People only play Heath's chance down because he's technically in his second year and he's a Magpie.

If he does not win the Rising star on the back of his slew of brilliant performances - not just 2 or 3 like the other hopefuls but maybe 9 or 10 then the award and system for awarding it are very flawed indeed. Corrupt even.
Get back on top.

O'Bree was named amongst the best in every bloody newspaper. What's the poor bastard got to do to get some recognition around here? Licca and Holland were also named amongst the best on the Collingwood website.

Heath Shaw was also highest possesion getter on the ground:

27 kicks, 11 marks, 6 HB, 1Goal 1point.

Not bad effort !! He was on fire last night.

I blame the coaching staff for letting port back in the game. What were they thinking playing Iles at full back ?

O'Bree was among the better players, notably during the first quarter, and to a lesser extent when the chips were down in the last. But I have no idea what game the people on the website were watching if they named Licca and Holland among the best ... no way.

Hmmmm ... you know, RU, I can't really complain too much about that.

My own best players list (posted earlier this thread, long before those other came out) is identical except that I left O'Bree and R Shaw out but included Swan. I wouldn't argue that O'Bree and R Shaw were not among the better players, I just drew my line in the sand after the (IMO) 5th best, not the sixth.

Apart from the first qtr, we played very poorly, yet still won. To me, that is a good sign. Recently we have been stuggling to do that.

Actually, we didn't win. They lost. There is a difference.

Great win by the team - and I was glad to see MM showing emotion when Burns didn't handball to Flash for a certain goal.

MM is passionate.

From now on we will see a changing of the guard for the Pies and will play finals this year but be a real threat in 2007+.

We can see that last years draft has given us players that are different (much better skilled) than we have had in the past.

Daisy, Pendles, Apples etc., with the Willi boys of JA, Cox, Toovey etc., getting a full year and ready for next year - to step up.

The big difference here is that they all have poise, skill and can kick the ball with penetration.

We constantly get burned by the Lica and Holland chip floater passes - and in this new brand of football that leads to turnovers and can cost you games.

Rusling IS the FF of the future - fast, great hands, vertical leap, great on the ground, good tackling and exceptional kicking action. This kid is the closest thing I have seen to the Duck - and he was a match winner.

Heater is not going to be a star - he IS a star - so much poise and skill - with geat kicking skills. Others have compared him to a Voss and they are correct.

It will be sad to see some of the loyal players go - but if the club serioulsy wants to win the flag - we must trade and get a REAL ruckman.

Bad luck for Harry and Wakes with the injuries.

C1 showed last night why he should be in - ran off his man to present and get the ball to place it perfectly for Bux to take the hanger.

We badly miss Daisy as when he gets the ball at HB if there is no play ahead he will take on the opposition and make space.

Great win - but already I can see the 2007 team being way way better - must play Pendles, Davies and give JA a run next week.

Rusling is one of my favourite players his 3 goals last night were brillant.
Lockyer was tough, Heath Shaw has true black and white viens. Buckley never gave up. I still think we should have one by more. Rusling was the best."

Well done lads jesus you made me lose some hair last night. Afterwards I played a great gig it all helps when you win.
go ples go buckley too.

Great post sq3. Not quite ready to give it a shake yet with the list we've got. Close but no cigar. Is a real shame for guys like Licca, Burns, Bucks, Wakes, Presti etc who have been great servants of the club but I reckon poor timing's going to mean quite a few of them miss out on the success that these new kids will bring. Going to need to be some tough calls made at the end of this year to make sure the development of some of the kids isn't stifled. Would hate to be the one tapping some great players and clubmen on the shoulder, but it's going to need to happen.

Having to listen to the SA commentators on 5AA relayed thru the ABC was EXTREMELY galling. Over the top, shouting and totally out of control until Pies got the ball and they would revertto a modest, almost sotto voce call. Gaaaaaaaaaaaa. Happy with the win. Not happy with how difficult it was to achieve. and at what cost? Apart from injuries to Wakes and Harry, did we have 2 reports? Licca AND Burns?

he can make 39 his own, just like warwick capper
I hope he shifts to number ten - Betheras, Caracella and Heater. :) Although number 39 suits him.
Burns also finished well. Nine possies in the last qtr.
Forget about the miss, how good was that gutsy grab on the wing, having his legs taken from under him? Still going strong.
I hope there is a reason Rocca is going so bad... he was a deadset liability tonight... love the bloke, i know he CAN be a star, but he is going too bad to be true at themoment
Every time he marked inside scoring range, I thought he was about to turn the corner. He was the one who passed to Dids, though.
Good to see Cometti anointing Heath as the Rising Star
And dubbing Ruz as Phil Carman-like! But it really is only fair if Heath can get the Rising Star, and play for Australia in the IR, and come top three in the Copeland, AND recieve All-Australian honours. :)
People only play Heath's chance down because he's technically in his second year and he's a Magpie.
He's really in his third year at the club (2003 draft crop). But he'll be fine, if the award has any credibility.

Best for mine: Bucks, Heater, Burnsy, Clement, Jonno (turned it over a bit but won plenty and at least tried to run). Rhyce was good, as was Holland and I thought Jason Cloke was working his way back into a rhytem across halfback, the first time he's done so since 2002.

We'd have really done well with either Neon or Daisy, or even Cara, as we are missing their influence inside fifty - Dids can't go it alone forever!

What a win, sews up our finals spot, and we are destined for bigger and better things.

Carna' Pies! :D
