Burns, Goldsack and Reid all in. Toovey and Stanley omitted and Maxwell suspended. We will only ever start a game regardless of the opposition as a 50/50 chance with Toovey and or Stanley in the side. Quite simply they are not up to AFL standard. Maxwell will be suspended for trying to be tough instead of getting a kick. Brown must return to the backline to play on Thompson and Reid is the third tall forward that will stretch the Roos backline especially now Gibson is out.
Barwick to Banks, back to Barwick- he shoots

Just a bit more on O'Bree.....he won more clearances than any other player on the ground yesterday.
He had 6, the next best was 4...Judd had 2.
Not bad considering it was clearly and easily the worst game he has played in around 2 years.
Clearances is a real issue at the moment. We beat Carlton 30-26, but it was obvious that Carlton's clearances were far more influential than the scrappy way we were getting it out. They looked like scoring every time they got a centre break, whereas ours were just bomb kicks forward.
You cant take out your best clearance player.

From among Burnsy, Isles, Reid and maybe Coxy. Burnsy for leadership because we were like headless chooks yesterday. Isles is tough and skillful which is a rarity and by god we need it around the stoppages. Reid is needed because a two-pronged forward line has never worked for us unless our midfield dominates. And perhaps Coxy for skills and freshness but he's less important than the other three because we need discipline and structure more than flair at this stage (hence Egan not even a look in).

Exactly...how people continue to miss this is beyond me. I wasnt aware that we won the clearances, but there was a period where we were absolutley smashing them, so that probably boosted our numbers a bit.
However the more i look into this game, the more im convinced that the main culprit for our loss was forward line delivery. Bullshit long bombs to 3 on 1s, or missing the pack entirely. If you want to bomb it long to Rocca...either do it quickly so he has a chance, or do it when there is a crumber at his feet. There is no point kicking it long and high so that it lands in the space in front of him when 3 defenders have him hemmed in on all sides. Go for goal, or go for the spear pass, just dont lob it in and pray.

Out will be Maxie, Stanley and Toovey.
I would like to see Wellingham, but he is still Rookie listed.
MM could throw in some wildcards though and play Dawes in defense and Reid in as well - still with Burns playing.

Following from my previous opinion on Pg 2:
Since Burns is out, leave Stanley in. He needs game time to test him and get used to the faster pace of the game. You can't judge players on odd games here and there. Let's see what he can do. I bet he'll improve. However, if he has lost the confidence of the selectors , then Holland should be considered (slow though he is) Cox must come in for Maxwell. As for Lonie, well no thanks...
As for Reid, what's the use of a key forward who can take a mark but can't seem to kick longer than thirty metres? He's be as much use as a key forward who can't mark over his head like Rusling (I hope Dawes is going to be better). I haven't seen Reid since his debut games last year but I wasn't that impressed due to his abysmal kicking. If he's improved fair enough, if not, its the twos until he has.
And the reason why dominating the clearances doesnt equate to scoreboard dominance for us is that the next in line for the ball or the one who kicks it out of the centre is often a poor kick, ala R Shaw or Johnson... no wonder the forwards can't get it cleanly.
So I reckon: Out: Toovey, Maxwell, Johnson.
In: Cox, Iles, Goldsack.
Undecided: Stanley/Holland.

Surely you're not serious about Davis, are you? I know it's a joke post, but the other two outs are plausible so I'm assuming there is a degree of seriousness. If Davis gets dropped... I'll be fuming.piedys wrote:Outs: Davis, Stanley, Maxwell"Superman or Spiderman or Batman could not have done any better."

They couldn't do any worse. At least you can see they have penises through their costumes.
