great signs, pendles, marty, o'bree all quiet and johnno and burns tio come back, we can only get better and still look fantastic today. kick straighter and we would have won by 50 points.
rocca seemed to really be advantaged by all the extra attention that travis achieved, seemed to free big anth up a fair bit, couldbe a big year for him.

Foxtell 6.00am. Sunday..........put on the recorder.David wrote:Great way to start the season by all accounts, and I'm ecstatic that Wood and Brown put in a good show. So disappointed though that I'm going to have to wait for Favourites' video to see any footage of the game (the guy should get a medal or something, for services to Collingwood supporters)... maybe I'll check out foxtel at my girlfriend's house and see if they're replaying it.

Only sour note was Rusling. Otherwise a very solid effort. Yet again our fitness won out in the end and we had too much run. Rocca back to his best, Trav continuing his good form.
Harry O was unbelievable at times on Farmer, whilst Nathan Brown will remain the highlight. All Pavlich's work was up the ground or on the ball. Wood was also solid in his first outing.
Egan......overall a pretty good return from him after a knee op. Ill continue my criticism over his kicking. I thought some of his kicks were really good....but most of them were not to the advantage of the forward. Also thought his tackling was below par despite some solid efforts.
Overall, Egan was pretty good. As i said, it was his first game back and its a big ask to step right back to top form. He definitely finds the ball and is a guy who can play a number of different roles. Id like to see him start to trouble the scorers.
Davis i thought was close to our best. His work rate was fantastic. Yet another brilliant goal. Really starting to become a consistent player which is unreal.
Josh Fraser had a shocker. Dont know how anyone in the AFL can be outmuscled by Peter Bell. However, the thing about Josh is that he usually backs up a bad game with a solid one. But today was quite bad. His stats improved in junk time.
Maxwell kept up his good form and was very important helping out Brown when Pav got away. Browns day would not have looked so good if Maxwell wasnt there to peel off. I watched Maxy closely and he reads the ball so well. He peels off at just the right time to get infront of the dangerous forward.
Our defensive work needs improvement. Freo had a few loose guys inside 50 on occassion. But we defintely improved as the game went on.
Swan probably our BOG although you could raffle it between a few. Heater was a real leader out there today.
Big dissapointment about Rusling...it could be career over...but it is a sign of our depth that we can bring in a pick 8 excitement machine who has had a big pre-season to replace. Ultimately we lose nothing in terms of structure...but my heart bleeds for the Ruz.

Was great to meet you mate..Hopefully next time we can have a longer chat.Geek wrote:23 or so degrees. Gentle breeze. 6 back of beers and a new couch. Footy's back and we're in the winner's list.
It's a beautiful, beautiful life
Nathan Brown.
Cam Wood.
Great to see em up in the 1's. Yeah yeah... they're kids - making no crazy judgements, but welcome to Collingwood, boys. You played well today.
Groaned a bit with Racer's pass to the members, then was stoked to see him hit tit after tit thereafter. Good game.
Daisy I thought played well. Was there and abouts a lot and stepped up as required. Looked a bit better than last year.
Go Dids. You're a legend.
LEON!!!!!!
And what about Pebbles?
Wiz got too many kicks on Harry. Heheh... Nah seriously. Wiz was effective... heheheheh.... Yeah nah nice one Harry. Pwned him.
Loved Swannies mark. And was it Maxwell who did that chase and tackle in front of the members in the first? Pendles' smother. Pebbles' intercept. Dids' effort in the square. Leon's effort from somewhere out around Nar Nar Goon.
But I was worried about Pavlich. Thought we had nobody to take him. Nathan Brown? Well done son.
Will take that win with a big old smile. It's 1st round so was expecting skill issues and players being run down. We were a bit scrappy at times, but that should come good in the next week or two.
Good to meet you Joffa. Thanks for the chat. Enjoyed my first winners circle too. Go Pies!!!!

Terrific effort. I thought we were a bit inexperienced and a bit exposed down back to compete with a side many thought was a prem contender this year. I was wrong on two fronts.
Some of the more impressive efforts;
Brown - all you posters who kept on saying he was slow were clearly proven wrong. His motor and his pace are terrific. Held his nerve in traffic to which was impressive.
Wood - lovely game. a true ruckmen and it may not be long before he is our #1 ruck. lovely palm to Davis in third was terrific.
Egan and R.Shaw - great to see them back. Sure they make some mistakes but their pace and run are fantastic. I wrote at the start of the year for us to have a good year we need them up and going. Started well.
Davis - continued his improvement from last year and ran hard thru packs.
Medhurst - we have won this deal - a top ten pick to go with him was a bonus. He has a real go.
Wakelin - the old stager just keeps going.
Thomas - might surprise but he was not in the game early and if you watch the reply - when he got going the side really got up and going.

if you watch the replay Fraser was off balance when he went into the contest so wouldnt read much into. Agree though - not a great game and we really needed him to kick that goal in the last.DaVe86 wrote:Only sour note was Rusling. Otherwise a very solid effort. couldnt watch the game live yesterday due to working, but got up at 630 this morning to watch the full replay. managed to avoid the scores and results, so watched it "live"....was bloody awesome!! we never really looked like losing, even when freo got a couple up.
loved big anth....he's definitely not making way from any kids this season as a few have suggested.
shattered for the ruz....not sure why exactly but always had a real soft spot for him! desperately want him to succeed. poor bastard! get well soon mate!
cam wood and n brown....look the goods hey??!!??
bring on brisbane!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I thought O'Bree was close to our best on ground. He wont even poll in the votes, because others stood out slightly more such as Rocca kicking 6 or Swan getting 27 disposals. But O'Bree was in everything...and his kicking was a highlight.
That is the best i have seen O'Bree skill wise. Off his left foot he is actually deadly. He is equally competant on both feet, making him a handful for defenders because he can switch to any side he pleases.
Whats more, he knows his limitations. At one stage he was running inside 50 to an open goal, but instead of blazing, he popped up a 15 metre dink kick to a team-mate who was in better position ( I think it was Swanny)
A true collingwood champion through and through who deserves more credit.

Always great to start with a win. Having said that though, I don't like to talk in negatives but there were some undisciplined play, selfish play at times. I felt we should have won that game by a far bigger margin (umps notwithstanding, that free against Didak was a disgrace). Fantastic to see Rocca kick truly. With regard to Egan, I have to disagree with some of the views here. I hope he proves me wrong, but I'll be calling him Western Star from now on. We've got some young kids who go in hard regardless of what's coming the other way. He will be found out against some sides with tough bodies. He's got some skills, but he needs to show some fearlessness.

where were you last week when i was getting caned for sharing the same views in regards to Egan lol.
That said, i thought Egan was ok first game back from knee surgery. His kicking was terrible in the first half, but it was quite good in the 2nd. And thats important because it shows he settled down.
His defensive skills are an issue...but his work rate was good. 21 disposals is a good return.
That said, i think once Scott Burns and Johnson come back, he may have a fight on his hand for a spot. Rhyce SHaw played a great game i thought and may fight with him for a position and offers heaps of run. Egan on the other hand sort of floats and offers a good target on the wings. Both important i suppose.
Just hoping Egan can string a few games together because it is too early to judge after 1 game back from injury. The kid needs 4 or 5 before we can make a really solid assessment.
Overall, i was pleased with Egan, but i still have a lot of doubts which should be answered within the next month.
