Since I never expected us to beat Adelaide last night I'm not particularly disappointed that we lost last night.
We had little to play for whereas Adelaide's season was on the line - plus we held our best team back and some of the moves we made on the field, I don't think we will be making again.
Have no fears for either Adelaide or Sydney, whichever team we play next week.
And whatever happens next week we have a lot to build on next year and beyond.
2006 Rising Stars - Thomas, H.Shaw
2007 Rising Stars - Pendles, Clarke, Goldsack
2008 Rising Stars - Reid? Dawes? Anthony (the forgotten man)?Dick?

I didn't read every post on here this morning & I don't know what other peoples feelings are, but I was gutted at last nights loss. I expected a better performance than what they dished out!
More so, to end the season on a high & go in next week with confidence. Poor kicking in front of goal & costly turn overs is what cost us. There's no way they'll get anywhere in the finals playing that shit we played last night.
I don't give a rats about whose season we shafted, top 4 or no top 4, when I go to the footy I expect a good solid performance week in week out.
Clearly not good enough....
Ben Reid needs to get back to Williamstown & toughen up, he isn't up to AFL standard just yet.

if we put in solid performances week in, week out, we wouldn't be having half of these conversations. additionally, winning more games gives you a greater influence over your destiny and don't you control your own destiny in the first place?ANNODAM wrote:I don't give a rats about whose season we shafted, top 4 or no top 4, when I go to the footy I expect a good solid performance week in week out.

top 4, shafting others - they are just outcomes of going through a process.
Purveyor of sanctimonious twaddle.

Last night's performance was so dissapointing because of the way we played. The back peddling, and indecisive play was pathetic and irritating. When we moved the ball quick, we looked a much better side.
Close to being the worse game of the season. That said, I don't think we'd repeat that performance if we were to play them again. I'd be happy to play the Swans or the Crows in the finals.

Gotta agree with choppa somewhat on that Joel.
Sure his understanding will improve with more game time, but we need someone to to teach him to kick NOW. 100 games from now we'll be kicking ourselves over it just like we did with the previous left-footed No. 20. He can take a grab, and doesn't look like a slouch, but his kicking in 2-3 games has been woeful for AFL standard.

They way I saw the game on TV (so anyone who watched it live at the ground feel free to disagree) was that the Crowsinitially clogged the midfield to deny us space then as soon as we got posession, thy conceded the midfield and all ran forward to block the forward line up.
This meant we couldn't pinpoint a pass to a forward, there was no bloody room. All the gaps were full of bloody crows players. That's why we had to continually work backwards and sideways to try to manfacture a way to get close enough to score.
When we spat it and just ran and bombed it into the forward line on top of Rocca's head, 9 times out of 10 it came straight back out faster than it went in because the Crows just got possession and ran it out in waves.
The only consolation is that it's much easier to clog up space at the Dome than it is at the G. Sydney tried it to a degree last week but we were still able to find space inside 50 and to get close enough to bomb goals from outside 50.

Every dead body on Mt Everest was once a highly motivated person, so maybe just calm the **** down.

stui, i think what stood out for me was the fact we were willing to let the crows do it.
Our game plan is pretty simple atm its work ball around the outside and kick to a leading forward. What adelaide did is all stand centre side of there opponents which meant they had the corridor owned. I think what would've been a smarter thing to do is push all our numbers wide to open up the corridor, everytime i looked up all you could see was collingwood numbers standing in the middle, not working hard enough to make space. We had no footy smarts last night, and i hope we change our plan of attack for next week.

From what I saw at the Dome live, Stui ,was the same game that you described that you watched on TV!!
The keeping possesion game across and backwards down the field is a very unattractive game to watch................but to have the ball always lost when kicked to a contest in the forward line was even worse.
Crows certainly bottled us all up!!

Agree totally with you. It was very very disappointing last night - how flat were the crowd?? You could just sense from early on we were flat and way lacking in intensity. What frustrates me about this team is our lack of consistency...I never know which Collingwood side is going to run out. Kicking and turnovers cost us BADLY, especially from experienced players.ANNODAM wrote:I don't give a rats about whose season we shafted, top 4 or no top 4, when I go to the footy I expect a good solid performance week in week out.

I can only hope that the Pies were not really fussed about the result ...I expected to lose because Adelaide were playing for their season and for Ricciuto.
Really disappointing overall......I like to feel a sense of confidence going into the finals, which I just dont have at the moment
