I'm with you Joffa. I'm sick of this crap about it being a danger game. The only reason it becomes a danger game is because it infiltrates the thoughts of players, and they stop doing what they have been doing all season.
Yeah, we can't rest on a our laurels, but if the team plays for each other like they have been all season, then we will win. Be confident, act confident, play confident.

Agree.eddiesmith wrote:Cox is the obvious replacement for Shaw.
Should end up Wakes, Cox and Bryan in for Presti, Heater and The Stick
Disagree on Richards/Bryan comments I've cut from ES's earlier post. I think that Richards did enough last week to hold his place. Obviously omitted for match-up and flexibility concerns.

Every game is a danger game. Richmond could flog us if they have a day out and we drop our guard. Sooner or later, they wil win, and if it isn't us they beat, it might be Sydney or West Coast. There isn't a side going around that can't beat any other side going around. Stick to the plan, run, take chances, play to win. Every game is a danger game.

Re: Team V Melbourne
Wakelin very well suited to Neitz and I can't see Harry getting too much time away from Robertson.Frank Stone wrote:Greg, I think at some stage Harry will get a crack at Neitzgregpie wrote:agree! The backline sure looks very thin
Hope I'm wrong but I can't see Wakelin doing the job on Neitz.

every week is a danger game, they are won on percentages its a halfback rebound gameplan that wins the 4points. It only takes a few percent miss and we can loose or beat anyone. So it is a danger game in that sense, however melbourne will run out of legs and get thumped by 10 goals if things even slightly go our way. We need to do a bulldogs on them, and run the dopey bastards into the ground, seriously danniher is a moron and shouldnt give MM any trouble monday.

Agree, even with Davey and Yze in I think our defence can handle the Dee's forwards. Some people have such little faith!favourites 2006 wrote:Yze, Davey both in doubt. I can't see with that forward line how we are in trouble. Neitz is the only one with real height. I have a feeling the Collingwood of 2007 have too much heart for a team 1-9.

Coll v Melb - the match ups / the analysis
B: Ward Holland Bell
F: Medhurst Rocca Davis
HB Wheatley Carroll Bruce
HF Didak Cloke Thomas
C Johnstone McDonald Green
C Pendlebury Swan Lockyer
HF Godfrey Bate Robertson
HB H.Shaw Maxwell OBrien
F Yze Neitz Davey
B Holland Wakelin R.Shaw
Foll White McLean Jones
Foll Fraser OBree Johnson
Int Petterd Bizzell Johnson Sylvia
Int Burns Goldsack Bryan Licuria
Many see this game as a danger game, and I must admit I tend to agree. I watched Melb demolish the Crows last Saturday and the played the brand of footy everybody expected of them this year. Tougher, quicker and using their midfield strength to dominate.
On paper, they are classier than we are, but we will work harder and more importantly, we will work for longer (ala Freo and Adelaide wins this year). We are fitter than they are and we need to at least be in striking distance at half time.
Their form has been very good the last month and they are quite simply the best bottom side I have seen for a long time. Bruce, Green JOhnston, McLean, McDonald form a very formidabble group of runners who will give plenty of supply. We dont tag so expect it to be somewhat of a shoot out. You could call it a game of midfielders, moreover I see it as;
Rocca, Cloke, Didak, Medhurst, Davis
vs
Neitz, Robertson, Yze and Davey.
Both teams should get 50+ inside 50's so it will be the delivery and which of the above fwds can dominate. I feel we match them pretty well down back but would have been much happier if Presti was guarding Neitz and Clement had Robbo. Instead those jobs fall to Wakes and OBrien. Wakelin is the worry - its not a great match up for aging champ. Thus the key is supply to him.
I think our fwds will be to lively for them and I hope that we are a bit to fleet of foot. Davis, Dids, Thomas and Meddy should be to nimble. Rocca should also be to good for Holland or Carroll - another reason why I am tending to want a dry ball.
Dry weather should suit us more. Our brand of wide, low risk use of the pill is not suited to wet footy. In saying that, Green, JOhnstone, Bruce have not been great in the H2o

Ummm we have lost 2 All Australians and a guy who was going to become All Australian.
I'm guessing none of the boys read this stuff so I can say that openly without erroding anyones confidence.
It's not about having lost faith.. The realistic situtation is that we have lost our cornerstone back half.
Heater & Clement are big losses because the opposition worry about them creating play.
Without them all of a sudden the other team goes more offensive against us.
Losing in the middle for any extended period of time on Monday will = hammering. Unlike other weeks where our backline soaks it up for a while.
It will be a very good win IMO if we get over the line.
Funny how everyone views things differently Joff. I thought we played our best game in 3 years last week. Rocca and Leon have not played a better game and I've never seen Freo that hard at the footy.
