How does Medhurst get on the I/C without being an "IN"?

Geez, Wakes is a bit stiff.

So, now the question must be asked... which 4 of the 7 players on the bench will line up for us on Sunday?

Medhurst, Goldsack, Dick, Davies, Iles, Bryan, Davis

Goldsack has been told he is in, Bryan would be a certainty (unless we want Fraser to ruck by himself), and you'd wonder why they'd name Medders and Davis if they weren't playing.

Which means that Dick and Iles would be dropped, and Davies would join them as an emergency.

In: Goldsack, Medhurst, Davis
Out: Dick, Iles, Wakelin

It even makes sense. Goldsack for Wakelin is a straight swap, as is Davis for Dick.

The press are saying that we have not played any significant teams and have won so far this season. Well let us compare the Dogs and our run thus far.

Round 1
WBD 113 def Geelong 93 (Hard fought game won out in end)
Pies 82 def Roos 79 (Close most of the night, pies get up)
Can't judge much from round 1. Cats and Roos started slow and have recently started playing well.

Round 2
WBD 72 def by Crows 110 (Dogs never in it at the G)

Pies 75 def by WCE 82
(Went over west and defeated in close tussle, WCE just got over the line. Interesting to note the only other team close to our losing margin is WBD, went down by 15 points due to some terrible kicking for goal by WCE)

Round 3
WBD 66 def by Saints 116
(Dogs never at any stage looking to threaten this game against an iconsistent Saints outfit, Johnson kept to 3 goals as other doggies struggled to find the sticks all night. Beaten by a stronger and taller forward line well fed by a dominating mid field)

Pies 115 Tiges 90
(Pies terrible 1 st 1/2 made the hapless tiges look good. Commentators were spelling the doom at Pieland. So we came out and kicked 12 .7 in 2nd half to win by 25)

Round 4
WBD 132 def Tiges 100
(Close tussle most of the night saw Tiges only 15 points down early in last 1/4. I believe due to some favourable umpiring decisions contributed to the Dogs kicking 5 unanswered goals to seal the match.)

Pies 64 def by Port 88
(Wet boggy match. We kept it close and tight all game. only in the last 15 min of final quarter the power over run a tired looking pies outfit. Or the speculation Pies were saving up for ANZAC day?? You decide)

Round 5
WBD 110 def Hawks 93
(Hawks without Mark Williams struggled to overcome Dogs. In general play in 1st half I thought was the better side, but bad kicking for goal in the 1st 1/4 cost Hawks the game, making it look like the Dogs cruised home)

Pies 95 Dons 79
(Pies dominated play all day. Bad kicking for goal kept the Dons in the game. In the end we ran the lines better and kicked 8 goals to 5 in the last 1/2)

Round 6
WBD 62 def by WCE 77
(WCE flogged Doggies around the ground all game. Final score not a good reflection as WCE kicked 4.10 to 3.4 to win by 15.)

Pies 86 def Crows 62
(The game we were told we had no chance of winning. Close game but only because Pies hit the post a record 7 times and due to wasteful kicking once again by the Pies. A dominating display that the scoreboard did not reflect)

Round 7
WBD 112 def Dees 106
(No one gave the Dees even a sniff. But they seemed to hit their straps and ran with the dogs all game. Only due to some late goals by Johnson and a very lacklustre Akemanis late in the game saw Dogs luckily get up by one kick)

Pies 119 def Scum 95.
(What can be said but pies dominating general play, but once again bad kicking for goal in first half of 4.11 to 8.6. Once again most had written us off. I am pretty sure MM went in the rooms at 1/2 time and told the boys that if they lose this game due to bad kicking in front of 40000 odd pies supporters would not help their case. So what did they do? Come out and blast 13.6 to 6.5 in the last 1/2)

So when you break it down WBD have played 4 sides in the current top 8 and have won 2.
Pies have played 4 sides in the current top 8 and have gone down to 2 as well. However adelaide we beat at home and Dogs were beaten by crows in Melb.

Far as I can tell both sides have played pretty even draw thus far. Last week was hard on the Doggies and at the end looked pretty spent. Pies seemed pretty fresh against the Scum.
In the end both teams i think are pretty evenly poised and a win to either side may herald the beginning of a dominate season.
I think we have the stronger defence. But if we kick badly for goal in this game then we may just not get over the line.

GO PIES!!
All this may be summed up in one word - CHARACTER - and if that is not worth developing, nothing is.
