you mean you don't see all that stuff here at times?Cam wrote:Its great hearing Essendon people on a well known bomber site, whinging about the umpiring yada yada touched goals yada yada. Didn't Essendon win a game last year because of another team kicking a goal for them? Fair dinkum they have had every 50/50 umpiring decision go there way since the 20k fine and now they sook.
Face it bombers... your team is soft, and have no heart, no spine and no future without the golden child. Suffer in ya jocks.

Yeah, there were some absolute shockers from the umps today. Essendon had a dream run with the umpires, getting several they didn't even come close to deserving, in the first quarter and a bit, then we got a few we shouldn't have got in the second half. On balance, I'd say the umps (taking the game as a whole) favoured us by one, possibly two goals.
But even the poor umpiring couldn't take much away from a fantastic game of football. Never mind that it was a Collingwood game and we won - if you told me that that exact same game was going to be played between (say) Adelaide and Richmond tommorow, I'd be first in line to buy a ticket. Or, if that had been a Grand Final, they would all be saying it was one of the greatest ones.
The result was in doubt for almost the entire match (until time-on in the final quarter), there was plenty of skill on display, we saw (for the last time) a few final flashes of that James Heard magic, we saw some great running from the Dons small-to-middle brigade, awesome speed from little Davey (and a fantastic chase and tackle), top-class performances from two time-tested big defenders in Michael and Fletch.
And, in the black and white jumpers, we saw the birth of a superstar when young Harry kept the current best forward in the business down to zero goals one, the return of an established hero with Didak's deft turns and touches, the secret of eternal youth demonstrated by one S Burns Esq., three kids playing their third senior game in front of 90,000 screaming people stay cool and play all day like hardened professionals, the tireless running, strong defensive marking, and never-say-die effort of the Shaws, the unhurried brilliance of the best defender in the competion, real grunt and old-fashioned crash & bash marking foward work from Anthony Rocca (who had a fantastic battle with two top-class big defenders that went the full 15 rounds), and most of all, the endless, relentless, crippling chase-and-tackle, then run to space pressure from an unsung midfield that never, ever, ever sat back and let Essendon do what they wanted with the ball. It was that pressure, in the end, that won the game for Collingwood, and 22 players applied it, starting about 15 minutes into the first quarter and not stopping till the game was over. It seems unfair to single out any particular player in this context, but let's just mention a few that caught my eye: Lockyer, Burns, O'Bree, Shaw, Shaw, Dick, Swan, Thomas, Pendles, Brian, Clement ..... I could name the whole 22.
Favourites, I hope you have plenty of web space, because when you make the highlights tape of this one, you are going to need it to run for about an hour!

they actually pressured the 4 quarters.
In parts of the game, the bombers still managed to get the ball down their end far to quickly for my liking, i know it takes it out of them etc but its so frustrating to see our guys battle so hard to get it down to our forward line, only to have the ball come back soon after.
well done on the fab win, keep it going, play like a team, good speech heath(notice no swearing) and the team as a whole, CONGRATS GUYS!!!!!!!!!!!!.

He sure was!! As an Assistant coach, I am sure he is doing his job behind the scene. I can't wait to see the game . Even without seeing the game I get this feeling of fantastic team spirit coming into this side..............exciting times aheadpiedys wrote:Would have been great to have Caracella out there today too - just to rub some more salt....

A Bloody top effort. TEAM effort. The Pies were united as one during the anthem, the bummers were all over the shop, half their team had their arms draped over each other, until it reached Chris Heffernan, who had his arms crossed, not interested in what his mates were doing. It's just a small thing, but the fact Heffernan did bugger all made me smile at the end of the day. SELFISH!

we seem to have alot of pressure on the opposition all the time and its great to see.
our running is hard out of defence and we seem do it as one.
our defending inside OUR forward 50 is red hot.
we are working really hard FOR and WITH each other. it seems as though, that when we are about to turn the ball over, we have runners running into all the right positions -reminiscent- of the lions in their hay day ( i said reminiscent, not the same lol).
i think we still have alot of work to do with out skills, we can be very sloppy at times,
but with classy players to come back, such as, bucks, lonie, holland and medhurst, i think our ball skills will pick up very quickly.

What a fantastic win for the Collingwood Football Club. Under pressure all day from a very good football side in the Don's, but in the end could and should have won by at least four goals.
It seems that the credos for the Pies is that they can out tackle, out run, and out pressure any team and going from the games so far that belief seems to be correct.
Best player on the ground, definately Heath though any number of Collingwood players would have been worthy winners.
Great to see Bryan in the side, he seems to give the ruck a real physical presence and the players use him when moving forward. Also love the defensive pressure Leon is applying in the forward 50, he was relentless, as he has been all games so far this season.

Its amazing we tackled with the same intensity as we did against port but were rewarded this week!
excluding the 2 frees to diver in the first qtr!
