Bloody fantastic win. Were looking like we might be over run in the first quarter, but started to fight back in the second. After that the pressure from all around the ground just blew Richmond away.
My personal favorite part of the game was the fantastic tackling of the entire team. What I think typified it was Dick making that great tackle in the middle of the ground, even though he was fighting about 30 kilo's out of his weight division.
Very encouraging signs for the future of the Collingwood Football Club.

We should not forget Richards effort in the ruck last night. It was his best game by far and his 'clanger rate' was down - at last he seems to be putting his body in and is learning where to tap the ball. I think he and Fraser may have some good 'combo, going that is going to give better supply to our mid fielders. Great win - the spirit and intensity is at last back!
I mean surely you can give him credit when he plays a good game?

I also thought that it was Richards best game. His taps at the centre bounce gave us the clearance many times. He has a better leap than Josh who often seems to be brushed aside. I think that he obviously his position is at the centre bounce freeing up Josh to play around the ground.Rassberry. IMO The quicker we get Bryan in for Richards the better.
He got some nice taps and that was all he contributed. And of course that lovely tap in the Tiges Forward pocket in the third towards goal and into space that resulted to a goal to Kracker! I bite my tounge evertime he gets the ball.

I just posted my match report at http://www.magpies.net/nick/
Would appreciate some feedback, on anything at all (aside from spelling and grammar which is sacrificed in order to get the report up ASAP) but anything else I would love to hear it from some Nicksters so I can improve the quality of the reports for Nick's as the year goes on or even if anyone is even reading em

Nice report, mate. Just read it as well as your report from last week. They are both nice and straightforward analyses of the matches. Keep it up.Magpie Since 1986 wrote:I just posted my match report at http://www.magpies.net/nick/

We deserved the four points, in saying that we beat a heartless Richmond. We got the four points and played 3 new players and improved in some areas. We still turn it over way to much and quality teams will make us pay.
My highlight (besides Leon's goal) was Richards tap to the general Burns. Have not seen a quality tap out in a long time like that. If Richards can stay fit and compete in the Ruck it allows Fraser to go back and forward and he is hard to match up.

A few notes on the game - the kids were terrific, stood up under pressure. I'm a huge fan of Toovey. He seems to have slipped under everyone's guard with his promotion to the senior list etc, but he stood up when it counted on Friday, and seemed to improve with each quarter. His kicking wasn't terrific, but in game one in front of 70,000 I'm sure you can understandably put that down to nerves.
Extremely heartening that it was a win engineered by the old (Burnsy, O'Bree, Licca, Tarks) and the new (Thomas, Heath Shaw, Pendles). Thomas was terrific, he simply never gives up, and was a key in the onball revival. Burnsy was as tough as nails (what else do we expect?), Licca worked hard, O'Bree was everywhere all night and Tarks is back to his true best. Dane Swan, too, continues to be forgotten however his work cannot be underestimated.
Guy Richards was good in the ruck, he's improved with every week so far. Fraser, too, was better in the second half.
Rhyce Shaw and Leon Davis, both taken in the 1999 Draft and both having supposedly been scarred from the 2003 Grand Final, looked superb on Friday, and appear to be stepping up as club leaders. Rhyce's kicking off halfback is no longer the worry it was, either.
Rocca, though, remains the key. When he fires, we win, simple. I'm just so glad we're keeping him at CHF again - that is where he plays his best footy, leading hard and fast up the field. Meddles, too, wasn't prolific, but he was awesome late. He's a dead eye dick in front of goal, and with Travis doing Tarrant's up the field work, Medhurst can cash in from the goal square.
