Fully concur S35. While the umpiring didn't cost us the game, it's ridiculous that a team can have 50% more frees than an apponent. Many other examples where umpires arbitrarily decided to make/not make a decision like holding the ball against Licca, followed by 2 in their forward pocket, Kerr caught by OB on the wing and drops it cold on the wing, got his head split open as a consolation, Graham caught on the way out of our forward line and throws the ball up and spikes it.STOKA35 wrote:honourable loss. To be honest if we lose to richmond next week why did we bother playing tonight to me after tonight honourable losses at this level dont count. If collingwood don't ask for a please explain from gooshan I am asking right now.
-wirpundas goal from the boundary line if he was not out of bounds when he kicked that the ghosts from the wayne harmes incident will be turning in there graves
-Prestis mark over head paid hands in the back please explain were his hands were was there a puppet show on the eagles player back
- Judd paid a free kick and 50 m penalty for being slung after the tackle can you please explain how judd disposed of the ball prior to that.
I am never critical of umpiring but we got a raw deal tonight.
Back to the game you could not fault our endovour we played a man on man game a couple of turnovers cost us as well(rocca to thomas was one)we were the better side I thought on the night but lost. Tonight proves to me when we are switched on we will play competitive football.
Licca had a bad night but kept trying. Nichols will remember his first game but be better for the run. Someone said Richards improved I must be watching the wrong match. Next 3-4 weeks will determine if Richards stays on the list next season.
Biggest blight on the game... Umpires making on the run interpretations of rules that have been araound for decades.

Thought OBree was very good tonight and easily in our best. Thought Wakes had an off night but so did Fraser and Clement.Tess wrote:From what I heard O'Bree wasted the ball time and time again, but he was crowned the "turnover king" so thats not a surprise. Wakes needs a Willy experience as do a few others, I think this weeks team will see who's who in the book of MM... Mick's Mates.

Even the commentators groaned when they showed the replay of that oneRoddy wrote:What about the one where Presti took that mark but free was given to Judd for in the back. I turned my tent upside down. No wonder Jimmy lost the plot.
Every dead body on Mt Everest was once a highly motivated person, so maybe just calm the **** down.

Saturday's Frees:
WC 34
Coll 20
Geel 17
Carl 16
Syd 19
Ruch 18
Roddy, the reason that blantant bit of cheating went unnoticed was because it was consistant with the theme of the night. Presti never had his hands anywhere near Judd. The pussy fell over as soon as he knew he could not rwach the ball.
And to think even Collingwood supporters drool over a pussy like Judd. Not one hard ball get all night, they leave that to drug-boy because his body is completely numb. Lane and Hudo want to marry the prick! Get a grip people.

"MAKE COLLINGWOOD GRATE AGAIN"
It was another great defeat for our boys - but one that i'm getting sick of. We are a good side, but are a rung below the really top sides. We've had this hard at it type of side for some years now, but we still lack the class needed to consistently win big games. This game highlighted what to me are our main weaknesses.
Firstly, we have not had a dominant ruckman since Monhorst, which is a sad indictment on our club's recruiting. I know that fraser hurt his leg, but even before then, he was not dominating, and Richards was likewise. Some will say that richards did OK, but they miss the point. Injuries meant that the Eagles had to use their 3rd and 4th ruck options, which should have allowed us to smash them in that department, but we simply did OK. This is simply not good enough. If he beats his report for a head high tackle, then surely Bryan must be given a run against the Tigers.
Secondly, we desperately need one more A grade midfield player. We need someone like Buckley. Time is fast catching up to Licca and even Burns. Pendles and Daisy have enormous potential but right now we need someone like Johnno (once he's over his ankle injury) or Swan to step up from being good players to becoming great players. Presently, we just lack a bit of class around the ball.
Thirdly, we need to fast track another key forward, to relieve some of the pressure off Rocca. Pebbles is in great physical shape and in good form, but it's too much to expect him to win these big games off his own boot all the time. I hope Travis will continue to develop, but like some others have said, I'm not sure he's got the footy 'smarts' to be a key forward.
Having noted our defficiencies, I was nevertheless pleased with a number of our players, especially Pendles, Daisy, O'Bree, Rocca, Leon and our next captain Heath Shaw. I hope the MM promotes 2-3 youngsters from Willi and fast-tracks their development, because I just can't see our present line-up winning enough big games. Hopefully this week we'll see Bryan, Cox and Dick given a chance.

Well said stui!stui magpie wrote:pies417 wrote: I AM as pissed as hell that we lost a game I thought we should have won. I'm also pissed as hell at the umpiring and the disposal mistakes that we made under pressure. However, the positives for me are that it was the Weagles in Perth, our intensity was a hell of a lot better than the first 3 quarters of last week and that we have time to build and material to build with. It's a long season and it's only round 2.
I cannot blame our players for saturdays loss. Simple facts are that the umpiring was heavily tuisted in favour of the eagles and a 2-3 goal advantage gimmi goal to Judd - at least two frees missed on Our players near gaol (but similar paid in Egles foward line). As Stui said it's only round 2 a team can't play expect to win every game. Apart from the umpiring it was a great game of footy and all the guys put in. I was also impressed by Nathan Browns twin brother who played for the eagles.
