I have to admit I was very much impressed with Medhurst. There were times I could see a bit of mongrel in him. We've missed that sort of stuff and he looked good in Number 7 and I think Jarrod might even be happy to see him wearing his number, i know i was, yet i was so sceptical when we picked him up.
I expect to see a lot more and better play from him this year with a hell of a lot more mongrel to him.

ive just got home from the game & we have nothing to worry about. the second 1/4 was shocking football from both sides but @ least we werent @ any where near full strengh. the young guys tryed all night kept running hard & chasing. C3 is a dude if you cant take a mark you shouldnt be playing football & rusling has got no balls.
Wheelie for safety. Go the Pies.
Well the lads could be last on the ladder winless after 16 games for all i care, i see myself as a supporter, i support when we win and i support when we lose im just a supporter!!
It makes me feel good to come on here and offer words of encouragment to the lads after a loss, i wouldnt be able to sleep at night slagging off at club and players after a loss, in a very simple way im just pleased as punch to be a collingwood supporter regardless of whether we win or lose, my club owes me absolutely nothing!!
FFS its February and FFS again its a bloody NAB cup game and for a 3rd bloody FFS how about we support the youngsters.
Go Pies bring on the Pauperoos in round one

Probably sums it all up for me better than i could.Cannibal wrote:I had no expectation of winning and thought we'd get done like a dinner. North fronted with virtually their best side because they want to make some money out of this pre-season cup. Good luck to 'em.
When we put Buckley, Jimmy, Fraser, O'Bree, Presti, Rocca and Swan into the first round side, we'll look vastly different to the mob which ran out tonight. Add Dids when he overcomes his knee injury and Dutch when he serves his suspension and tonight will become a bad memory. We'll beat North in the real thing. It's still going to be a long season, though. They are, after all, the wooden spoon favourites.
A general comment I could make is that whilst some of the kids did some nice things, they are very, very raw (as you'd expect), so we need to be patient and give them the 3 years or so they truly need to mature. Dick and Brown, especially, showed talent but equally their rawness.
On a very positive note, write Pendles and Ryan Cook down as almost dead-set certainties for a spot in the first round of the real thing. I love what Pendles can do; he makes so much space it's not funny. Great disposal, too. Since I haven't been able to watch Williamstown play, I haven't seen Cookie before but, by gee, this kid has got what it takes. Big things to come from Cookie in 2007.
Medhurst is going to be a very good pickup for us. By crikey, I like the way he goes for the ball. No standing around pushing, shoving and then moaning about not getting a free kick like someone sent somewhere else over summer. Egan is starting to show his undoubted talent more consistently and Maxy is a dead-set leader of men. Heater showed his usual "take no prisoners" attitude and just needs the rocks of Presti and Jimmy around him to release him to run more freely. The core regular senior players all looked pretty good to me.
On the downside, Richards should be charged with taking money under false pretences. I couldn't understand why he was given another season on the list; he's done bugger all since we picked him up in 2000 and he ain't gunna do a thing this season either. I'll reserve judgement on Bryan who at least showed a willingness to mix it, go for the ball and use his weight. I doubt he's a top tap ruckman, but. Maybe a nice backup to Fraser but that will probably be it.
Final note - I tust Harry is OK. Comments made by Walshie at halftime and after the match said that the scans were a precaution only. Still, we haven't got much depth, so we don't need any more injuries before the bloody season starts!

Wow this thread is a funny read
There was one obvious sign the Kangas wanted it more other than the side named and thats the fact they employed a Nth QLD like flood throughout the game, one time I reckon they were 2-1 in our forward line, why bother in a pre season game?
The best part of the night was the fact that its the Kangas new home ground and yet as always were completely outnumbered in the stands

Dito..they all rocked up not to support the Pauperoos but to have a look at the pies...how funny is that...its like they've found a new home ground a million miles from melbourne when in actual fact it will be nothing but an away ground..because everyone will rock up to support the pauperoos oponent!!eddiesmith wrote:The best part of the night was the fact that its the Kangas new home ground and yet as always were completely outnumbered in the stands

Reserve judgement, mate. Presti and Jimmy weren't playing and they're first choice FB and CHB in the real thing. Wakes is backup and will spend most of the season at Willy, "match ups" being given as the reason. Maxy showed what he's made of, a true leader that bloke, and I doubt we'll go into many games with another tall. More likely we'll go with Harry who can play tall and small. Having said that, I like the chances of John Anthony, when he gets back from injury, to make a good run for a place in the backline.Cam wrote:Wakelin probably got himself another year in the ones on that display. I'm not sure whether that is good or bad.
