Farewell and thanks - John Noble
Moderator: bbmods
Should Noble be selected in the 22 for the opening round, then once again it’s testament to this blokes ability to find a way to get more out of himself from one pre season to the next. He has his flaws and most Pies supporters know them but we should never lose sight of how hard this guy has worked to be where he is today as an AFL footballer. He would easily get a game in a number of clubs best 18 every week but he finds himself on the fringe at the reigning premiers instead. Missing out on being selected in this team is no slight on your ability, it’s just the reality that comes with competing against other quality players.

It's a good story of redemption in part isn't it.K wrote:He's back!!fitter and stronger, he’s put on about four or five kilos
Hopefully after his 92 games that'll just leave him with just a complete lack of talent...
Bring on 100 games.a complete lack of talent. Noble has neither.

I don't think enough about Johnny's game has been mentioned, it is possibly the best I've seen him play. He was overshadowed in the end by Naicos and perhaps one or two others but at half time I had him as BOG and pivotal in keeping us in the game. Massive kudos to him for the way he's presented himself this year, I feel like he is genuinely best 22 right now.

He's fitter and stronger and his run is sensational... but still gets exposed 1-on-1 vs a taller opponent. That is still happening, when his direct opponent can simply post him up and mark it without Nobes causing the ball to come to ground. He doesn't have to mark it, just ensure that the other guy can't. Does his dash and initiative compensate for those (currently) rare occasions... possibly yes, but that was the reason Oleg was preferred last finals. He has to develop more 1-on-1 body skills to remove this weakness... bumping early or to parts of the player that will shift them from what they can do now, which is just stand next to him and put their arms up and mark it.
Get back on top.
Spot on! Noble has been one of the reasons Collingwood has recovered from the early season slow start. His run out of defense, sure hands and accurate delivery has added to Collingwood's strength. He still struggles with the one-on-one contest but I think the team defense is organizing match-ups that limit the chance of Noble being caught out 1-on-1 in the defensive 50. Noble's running power and speed is well suited to Collingwood's game plan of aggressive attack from turn-overs generated by high pressure around the ball. Together with Lipinski's running I think Noble would make a good winger but we seem to have settled on Sidebottom for the rest of his career to hold down one wing and Josh Daicos on the other which leaves the defense as the only position left for Johnny Noble. Regardless of his susceptibility to 1-on-1 contests, I think Noble is a current strength of the Collingwood team and I hope he maintains his form for the remainder of this year.

His attitude and resilience to get back on the horse after being dropped for the finals last year has been outstanding.
It's a demonstration of great character and bodes well for both him and the club.

‘Fitter, stronger’: Pie opens up on living AFL’s worst nightmare as second coming ignites
John Noble notched 22 disposals at 91 per cent efficiency against Carlton on Friday night, playing his familiar flanking role in typical reliable fashion as his Magpies edged ahead in a classic between arch-rivals.

Noble is the first mid-season draftee to play 100 games.
Whether it's the National, Pre-Season, Mid-Season or Rookie draft, it's a remarkable achievement considering the few who go on to play 100 games.

Interesting stat that the AFL did have a mid season draft between 1990 and 1993. A couple of handy players were picked up in 1990 - Dale Lewis 182 games (North Ballarat) and Scott Turner 144 games (Ararat).
So Nobes “technically” isn’t the 1st, regardless though a fantastic achievement, especially how he has responded this year after last season’s finals.
