The funny thing is Scotty from marketing was head of Tourism Australia when they used the term "where the bloody hell are ya" as part of their ill-feted marketing campaignthink positive wrote:oooh sprung bad!!

Oh dear, are your eyes painted on?Wokko wrote:It's the job of a state's emergency services to be active and available during a bushfire, not the Prime Minister of the Commonwealth.
Do you need it written out in crayon on a copy of The Guardian to understand?
Scotty from marketing is the our glorious leader the Prime Minister of Australia. What do leaders do? Trick question I know.
Guess what "they lead"

Most of the people calling for leadership wouldn't know what that was if it bit them on the arse. What they think is Leadership is a PM opportunistically being pictured visiting fire areas, or holding press conferences pledging money and/or resources when reality is that it's the State governments and emergency services who do all the heavy lifting and they liaise with the federal ministers and/or public service as required.
Examples I've seen are Krudd wading through Qld flood water carrying a box of something, Shorten cutting short an overseas holiday to get to the mine cave in in tassie (while he was still an ambitious MP) and Abbott in firefighting gear during a past bushfire.
Of those 3, Abbott was the only genuine one as he was actually a member of his local volunteer fire brigade and regularly worked, taking orders from the local Chief without a problem.
The other 2 would run toward a nuclear explosion for a good photo provided they avoided any actual prospect of personal harm, yet that seems to be what's considered "leadership" by the partisan mob.

For what it’s worth, I thought the criticism of Nixon was unfair at the time and feel this Morrison holiday is a bit of a beat-up too. Just be thankful he’s out of the country!

What leaders of all (both) political persuasions do in times of crisis: they lead. This adds to the poor decision making (again) demonstrated by Scotty from Marketing. From Harold Holt onwards all PM’s have shown leadership except one: Scotty from Marketing.

Throw away the text books people, leadership is simple. The Age at the time praised Whitlam for what it called his "frantic fight", and added "one of the duties of a prime minister is to make symbolic demonstrations of the public will".

Not for Scotty from Marketing though: too complex for him. The one leader who failed the simple leadership test when all before him demonstrated what needed in part to be done at times of crisis notwithstanding their political affiliations.stui magpie wrote:Throw away the text books people, leadership is simple. The Age at the time praised Whitlam for what it called his "frantic fight", and added "one of the duties of a prime minister is to make symbolic demonstrations of the public will".
At least he’s admitted his failure to lead by coming back from an overseas holiday while a lot of Australia burns.
Rather than Hawaii he should consider a more local place like Cheviot beach.

So now we've reduced leadership to a sham public display, something to suit a millennial's attention span.
Next we'll reduce rational discussion about global warming to a "The science is settled" soundbite or let people choose their own gender as whatever floats their reality today.
Oh.... Wait.....
