As I mentioned somewhere - would be really good to bury teams, and actually play the full 4 quarters like Geelong do. First half was brilliant, but needed to win by 100+ to declare a 4 qtr performance.

Having said that.... last year our margins were much smaller, our biggest in the finals series vs Swans (30 something).

Not to get too carried away beating last years spoon-bearers, but it was a good warm up, as will be the next few weeks, until we come up against the big boys, full of confidence, and ready to steam roll.

Best - Medhurst, Shaw, Wood, Brown, Davis, Thomas, Rhyce..

No passengers of note. Our backline provided great rebound, was like the tigers hit a brick wall. Will be good to see them hold as steady against better teams.

I'll take the 4 points. Decent effort.

Yeh, a little disappointed we couldn't bury them too but to Richmond's credit I thought they fought back really well. A win is a win is a win ...

That was just a great performance all round. I was getting greedy in the 2nd half, wishing for a walloping of ginormous proportions. But the Tiges lifted and were a lot better.

But some very special moments throughout. Thankyou Daisy and Heater. Just love our ruck division of Josh and Cameron. 1st class.

Watched the game with the western magpies and held up the bar with "Hendo" a fellow nickster, thanks again for the lift to the station mate. Rode the train back to Mandurah with some west coast fans who just wanted to talk Collingwood, no wonder!!

+ves
- 4 points in the bag
- good %
- great speed and ball use
- Medders best game for us
- Back line looks solid and I'm confident of our backs one on one with any forward combo in the League. They work really well together and provide great rebound.
-JAs debut

-ves

- Clearances. We got smashed. Major improvement required to mix it with the best.
- We start to get too cute when we get on top. I think this contributes to sides getting back to us.
- Red time goals are hurting us. Might need to hold up play in the last 5mins when we're up. might not be pretty, but could be very effective.

I took my son down to the game (from central vic) as a spur of the moment decision - the last time against richmond we saw them pummel us. So today was sweeeeet.

My son kept telling me (starting half way through the first quarter) this is the best day of my life Dad :D

I agree with others here about Medhurst. Everyone around us kept saying Wow! Mehurst!!!

Even so I think we could have hammered them more. Anyway, a very enjoyable game and we will sleep happy tonight!

Positives -
Medhurst - best game in black and white so far. Tarrant who?!
H.Shaw - apart from the last quarter (I think it was a kick out, not sure), was brilliant. Does anyone know how many touches he actually got?
Thomas - Back to his first year best. That first goal in the last quarter was Daicos like.
Cameron Wood - Like his ruckwork, like his first goal in AFL. About time we got a true tap ruckman.
John Anthony - 2 first kicks were goals, then he went quiet for a bit, but it's only his first game. Promising start.
Honorable mentions - Didak, Rocca, Davis were great, Rhyce seemed to be everywhere and Wakes and Brownie kept Richo and Brown quiet. All in all, very happy to get the four points after the disappointment of last week's narrow loss.

Negatives -
Other than a couple of misses at goal in the second half, can't really think of anything major. Shouldn't have let the Tigers back into it, but to the boys' credit, they never let the lead drop to under 30 pts. Good going. Bring on the Filth.

workmanlike performance, everyone played well thoght toovey was solid probably made 1 mistake, were are the rhyce baggers now thought his foot skills were great. Maybe the extra 8 hours sleep did wonders as brisbane lost saturday night.

Don't understand this seemingly widespread perception that Thomas' first year was his "best". His 2007 was far better than his 06 in my opinion. Stats show that it was marginally better, but actual viewing the performances tell me that he was much better in terms of disposal, and 1%ers, and tackling, and every team oriented aspect.

He has been brilliant so far this year. Put him in the midfield, and he's going to take another step.

Agree with everything else you said. For negatives, I would throw in a poor showing from Burnsy, but it's nothing of concern. Pendles still looks to be struggling, he is fumbling a lot which is rare for him, considering his silk is his trademark. But he was better today than in 1 and 2.

We still haven't hit our straps. Goldsack in for Toovey next week will add some class in the backline, Clarke and Reid also possibilities, though I wouldn't know who to drop. Good times ahead.

EDIT: Would like to emphasise that Toovey wasn't bad at all today. Made a couple of crucial errors, but other than that, he looked solid. However, Goldsack brings more to the side, and Toovey was his replacement... so the change should be made. But very impressed with Toovey's return game.

Geelong used to bury teams in the late 80's, kicking massive scores. How many premierships did it get them?

We play accountable football, not frontrunning non contact crap like Essendon and Carlton played on Friday. While it would be nice to be able to bury sides by 100 points each week, I'll be happy with winning every game by 10. As long as that includes the GF.

BTW, great game today.Does any team have 3 mercurial small forwards who work as hard as ours? Did's, Leon and Medders all take a bow. Geelong has Johnson and Chapman but they're the only one's within a bull's roar.

Richmond are no real test, but I was very impressed with our boys' performance today. Collingwood must be the best tackling side in the AFL and if we are to beat the Cats (both in the Home and Aways and in the Finals) it will be because of our tackling. I was rapt to see Didak, Medhurst and Davis used in the midfield as well as up forward. JA's debut was encouraging and Nathan Brown just gets better and better. Heath Shaw was BOG but the contributions of Harry and Maxy in defence should not be underestimated.

However, like other contributors to this thread the highlight for me was Medhurst's performance. Remember, Medhurst was just the icing on the cake in the Tarrant deal. The main action was Tarrant for pick 8 (Reid). However, Medhurst has given us far more than Tarrant has given the Dockers, and today his performance was superb. If I was a kid I'd be sticking a number 7 on my Magpie jumper. Go Medders! Go Pies!

Well pointed out Stui! When we have the game under control player management is the key word. Not worth overdoing it and coming up tired the next week. Look at the Brions peaked for the game against us and and didn't have it against he Swannies. Carlton will be doing the same next week end it will be a Grand final for them!!!! We just need to play enough footy to give them the magical 15 the rest is four points!!!
