Was extremely impressed with Goldsack tonight. This may just be the week he deservedly gets his nomination for the Rising Star - fantastic!
2 other young guns in Pendlebury and Rusling were great tonight while I didn't think Clarke put a foot wrong.
And speaking of our ruck stocks, Richards is getting better with every game. Pretty good last week and great tonight against Jolly and Spida.

What a night!
A win on a gigantic stage, the return of the Great One, a win in the free kick department (will Christ return tomorrow?) and we break the crowd record....how sweet it is!
BTW was listening in Bangkok tonight and just who were those Bozzos on MMM?
It sounded like amateur hour at Adelaide FC.....I mean......how contemptuous of MMM to serve up that standard of commentary. I hope all of you Melbourne Pies ring them on Monday and let them know.
For the first time all year I chose 3AW and without Rex it's a far better experience.
Now to open a few cans of Chang, chew up a couple of Zolofts and watch the replay........hmmmmmmmm heaven!

After the epic draw comes the decisive knockout!

Goldsack was back to his best tonight. Looks like the rest from seniors has done him wonders.
Clement back to such form is also pleasing. Wakelin deserves to hold his spot over Presti as well.
Pendlebury really adds a lot to our team and we look so much better with the class of Buckley and Pendlebury in the midfield. Its great to see field kicks hit targets.
And Marty Clarke....not many players would get up as quickly as he did after that doggish knock from Buchanan. He got up, came back out and kept going about his business. Considering he is not from AFL stocks and has never been on the receiving end of a bump like that...he deserves a huge pat on the back. How good was that!
The Ruz is exciting as well. If he gets the 3rd best defender he will dominate. If teams put a better defender on him, Rocca and Cloke will dominate. If only he and Cloke kicked goals, who knows how far we can go.

yes our forward is really starting to show its potential
just wait when rocca, cloke and rusling are all firing
and you've got the little guns in didak, davis and medhurst who are always dangerous
what a handful for any defence
and of course we've got the future in reid and dawes to look forward to
oh i love being a pie

Well, it's hard not to be happy with that result. For the second week in a row, Bryan and Richards stood up when nobody expected them to... not only keeping their own playing futures alive, but it means Fraser may not actually have to ruck when he comes back in.
Umpiring. Hmm. Gotta say, we did well with the free kicks, and there were a lot of soft ones there. But, how many times have we been screwed this season? (Melbourne, St. Kilda, Melbourne again last week, just to name a few). Still, I don't like to see incompetence even if it favours us. Umps have a lot of work to do in the off-season.
Here's my player reviews. Thought all 22 put in tonight.
Chris Bryan: Statistics weren't spectacular, but he showed tonight how good he can be in the ruck - using his body to his advantage several times. Plus, that mark and goal was superb. 6
Nathan Buckley: The champ didn't dominate, but what would you expect in his first AFL match in 12 months? Tonight reminded me a lot of his 2006 - didn't rack up massive numbers, but still had a big impact on the game, just through his great kicking, and that extra little effort to win the ball in 50/50 situations. 7
Scott Burns: Quiet by his standards, although that last goal was great. Still a solid game anyhow, Goodes was the only player to have more tackles. 7
Martin Clarke: Didn't set the world on fire, but certainly showed why he shouldn't have been dropped for the Richmond game. Adds that intensity in tight situations that will help us in September. Did well to get back out there after the Buchanan headshot. 5
James Clement: Back to his best tonight. The general in the backline, and got a great goal. 8
Travis Cloke: A little quiet, held goalless, but still contributed. 5
Leon Davis: Not his best game. Didn't really get involved, although there were a few nice touches. 4
Alan Didak: Still just not quite there yet. Clever, as always, but just seems to go missing for long periods of the match. 4
Tyson Goldsack: Perhaps showing the wisdom of giving him a week or two off - Goldsack had one of his best games tonight. O'Loughlin was largely ineffectual, and Goldy was rarely absent when the ball needed to be moved out of our backline. 25 touches, as well. 8
Tarkyn Lockyer: Didn't really get involved as much tonight. I think I recall him copping a knock early, which might have had something to do with it. 5
Nick Maxwell: Courageous as always, great to see he wasn't badly hurt late in the third quarter. 6
Paul Medhurst: Wasn't the forward focus as he has been in recent weeks, but that might have something to do with the general lift in the rest of the team. Still made a contribution. 5
Shane O'Bree: Can't say I recall seeing much of him. 5
Harry O'Brien: Towelled up by Goodes early, but I thought he did better later on in the match. Still needs to work on the kicking. 5
Scott Pendlebury: Classy, but what else can you expect from Pendles. Superb all night, one of our best. 8
Guy Richards: About time Guy got some recognition. He not only held his own against far more heralded ruckmen, but seemed to be everywhere around the ground for once. 16 touches and 7 marks (including at least 2 very good ones)... have we ever seen stats like that from him before? 8
Anthony Rocca: Three goals, and two in the second quarter were not only important in the context of the game, but were simply classy. Not his most dominant display, but did his bit. Hope he gets off if he has to face the MRP. 7
Sean Rusling: Looks incredibly competent up forward - marked everything that came near him, and had he kicked better, could have had 6 or 7 goals. Keep playing like that and he'll be a force to be reckoned with in September. 8
Heath Shaw: Surprisingly quiet, although as one would expect did some Heath-Shaw-like things during the course of the game. 5
Dane Swan: 24 disposals, many of them around the packs in the middle of the ground. Getting back to his best form. 7
Dale Thomas: On fire when he was needed. Only 11 touches, but that doesn't justly show his impact on the match. 6
Shane Wakelin: Another top performance by Wakes on Hall. Should play on next year just so he can be selected for matches against the Swans... only joking - he is in fine touch at the moment, and (this is difficult for me to say) probably adds more to the side than Presti at the moment. 8
Best: Pendlebury, Clement, Rusling, Richards (yes, that's right ), Wakelin, Goldsack, Buckley, Swan

A great win but tainted by the absolutely DISGUSTING MMM commentary.
Did anyone hear the comments in the last about Joffa? Saying basically he deserves to be hit??! EKKK I kid you not!!!
I have never been so appalled at a commentary team before. And I have *always* been a MMM girl.
Still can't believe what I heard tonight - forget the Hawthorn players being on drugs... there was something strange going down in that commentary box tonight.

clements goal was my highlight!!
the rocca incident looked like nothing, just a late spoil (it was right in front of me) clarke going down was terrible, i didnt see it i was following the ball. he was brilliant to come back on.
the thing that got me was the boys just kept fighting all over the ground. it was fantastic!! the bucks atmosphere was brilliant, i cried when he came through the banner! i didnt think i would see it again!!
caN TALK from yelling, what a great night!! (and it was warm too!!)
go my beloved pies!!

Nah didn't get hit...! But they were saying he 'deserves' to be?! It was disgusting!!
Basically when the red flag went up they didn't get what it was about so instead they go on to condone violence in any fashion they deemed fit. Absolute dead set bunch of dropkicks.

Good win, good solid win. Great intensity, we won the midfield except for one patch at the end of the first quarter and one player in Goodes (how good is he, he was awesome tonight). How many soft 50m penalties can one game have? I think they got 6 and we got 2 - that's 400m in one match, very odd.
We beat the swans at their own game again, now bring on september!

Terrific win. Stood up to them all night and never let them 'head us' which I thought was terrific. Won the game in 3 areas;
1 - Started to get some clearances
2 - backline started to gel
3 - kids were sensational.
to the latter point I thought Pendlebury and Goldsack both had their best games for the club as did Richards.
Good to see the great man back!
Fraser in for Rocca most probably the only change at this early stage.
