Good win, not great but a workman like performance that got the job done, one of the tougher efforts by this list
Chris Tarrant- Finally after years of crap play for us he started to repay his debt tonight That was a highlight, the crowd was superb and the huge roar for all his errors was sensational, great atmosphere there tonight. Must also thank Chris for giving Pav some kicking lessons
But onto the Pies, some disappointing play, should beat Freo by more but playing with a few inured players it was a good win, looks like the QB and then bye may come in perfect time and a few ready to come back, things looking good where as last year this time we were struggling for depth with injuries
Daisy definately needs a break, let him miss QB and have a 2 week break and be fresh for Sydney
About time Rocca stood up, was bloody brilliant and Leon, damn sensational game from him, thats what we need and with small forwards being inconsistent its great to have 3 quality players down there, Dids will hopefully hit his straps after the break
Medders 1% to set up a goal in the 3rd was bloody fantastic, great to see that, he was really fired up tonight and perhaps was too fired up as he threw himself around a bit but that play, brilliant
Overall a superb team performance, was very concerned when Maxwell started on Pav but lucky Mick only took 5 minutes to realise his mistake

Leon Davis has a great one, Didak showed his class again, though there are some opposition supporters not happy about his hit that cost us a goal. Medhurst showed his worth, sure no goals, but he set up a couple.
Travis Cloke looked good tonight, watching Rocca fire was a highlight, I'd really like to see him do it on a full time basis.
We still looked a bit down in the ruck started to get it back when Sandilands got tired towards the end. Interesting to see Guy take him down in the centre.

Rocca: Big, strong, amazing hands, kicked 5.0. Had more impact on the result than any other player on the ground. My 3 votes.
Leon: living proof that quality beats quantity every time. 16 Dockers had more ball than Leon, 20 Dockers had as many touches or more, but none had as much effect on the final result. 2 votes.
Swan: the everywhere man. Did stuff in defence, attack, in the middle, on the wings, did it all day in all 4 quarters, and kicked a couple of useful goals as well. An excellent game and one of our best 2 or 3 players on the night. 1 vote. Deserves more.
Pendlebury: a 4 quarter performer. An excellent, steady contribution all over the ground, and a major contributor to the win.
Burns: Turned the match at least twice. Came on in the 1st quarter when we were getting smashed in the middle and stopped the rot. Saved us again late in the game when his defensive work was magnificent. His only real mistake was not being born twins.
Rhyce Shaw: one of our best. With brother Heath out injured, took it upon himself to do the non-glamourous hard stuff in the last line of defence. He should earn a lot of respect for that: the team needed someone to stand up and play Heater's role, and Rhyce did exactly that. (Also proved that Gary Lyon is a complete idiot.)
Fraser: did his best against the league's #1 ruckman at the bounces (to little effect), picked up possessions in the packs like a rover, then ran hard and far to provide a target. Some excellent work up forward made a difference. Well done, Josh.
Johnson: improving week by week, one of our best midfielders now running right back into form. Could start picking up BOGs any week now.
Lockyer: not the dominator of the past few weeks, but a very steady and creative contributor. Continued to run and pesent. Probably suffered more than most from our lack of interchange players.
Goldsack: you couldn't possibly drop him after tonight's game: easily his best so far. Had the poise and the judgement of a 50-gamer, not a kid in his third senior match. Tall, quick, not afraid of anyone, uses the ball well ..... what's not to like?
Prestigiacomo: not well-matched against Pav and Taz, but remained the steady, solid professional that he is. With Racer, held the defence together when things looked grim.
Didak: Not a 4 quarter player at this stage of his recovery, and played without the out-and-out brilliance he can turn on at times (it was Leon's turn to do the magic tricks). But worked very hard, running to all parts of the ground and doing hard stuff. Might have featrured amongs the better players if he hadn't had a brain spasm in the final quarter and cost us a stupid goal.
Cloke: didn't get a lot of ball, and kicking was poor once again, but presented as well as ever and took some great contested marks. Good second efforts too.
O'Bree: struggled hard and, in the end, pretty effectively against quality opposition.
Medhurst: Some big efforts, some poor judgements here and there, some very poor kicking. But worked hard, showed enthausiasm, courage, and clear improvement. His lightning handball for a goal immediately after getting heavily crunched was simply magnificent. Watch this space.
Maxwell: cannot cope with opponents too tall and strong for him, but never dropped his head and worked his arse off all night. Kicked an excellent goal, and, as ever, his long, accurate handballs were damaging.
O'Brien: handed mission impossible, Harry was lucky that Pavlich and Rocca kicked so badly. But he stayed competitive all night and like our other beaten tallish defender (Nick Maxwell) he never stopped putting in.
Toovey: did OK, not great. Has a very cool head and quiet, no-fuss courage in the packs. Could play 150 in black and white but might be due for a rest first.
Thomas: may need a rest. Never looked settled, seemed lost in defence, couldn't quite capture the magic in attack, did his best work on the wing.
Holland: got some close-in ball, and picked up a lot of marks in defence, but stats can be misleading: he had little effect on the game. Several times killed our run by hanging onto the ball after a mark and waiting, waiting, waiting, till the opposition all flooded back before he kicked it. Far too many short, slow, up and under kicks that achieve nothing. For the 4th week running, done nothing to show that he is in our best 25.
Richards: better than not playing anyone as a 2nd ruck because Fraser was able to go forward and do damage to the opposition. Did a bit here and there, not a lot.
Heath Shaw: injured early and went off.
Leon: living proof that quality beats quantity every time. 16 Dockers had more ball than Leon, 20 Dockers had as many touches or more, but none had as much effect on the final result. 2 votes.

Very positive win. Freo are a good side and last year's prelim finalists and we beat them without buckley and clement and a few of our boys were below their best. H. Shaw essentially didn't play, didak was quiet, johnson not at his best, daisy kicked 0.4, r. shaw not at his best, toovey poor, medhurst quiet. that may sound negative but it is really the opposite because if we can grind out a tough win like while not being at our best we can improve considerably. come september if all our boys are at their peak we will go a long way. did someone say "we're going places"?

Swan one of our best.
Tarrant also one of our best.
McBurnie easily one of Freo's best.
Any doubts I ever had about losing Taz were stripped away as he sprayed them at the goals tonight.
Great win by the boys, was good footy all night. This side is an exciting prospect.

That effort by a man not fit to be Pendles bootlace was as low as you can get, sore loser just on that. However, his whole night was a f*cking disgrace, sniping all night, taking cheap shots and caps it off with a disgraceful bit of sportsmanship, good riddance you one trick pony hack.1eyedpie wrote:
I noticed at the end of the game Tarrant was shaking hands with some of the collingwood boys and Pendles approached him with hand out and Taz just turned his back to him! Taz is a sore loosing mongrel and has lost my respect even if he did play for the pies. Suffer in your jocks Tarrant!!!

Maybe we are saying the same thing - the only thing i thought decent about his game was he stuck his knees in him. Everything else was woeful. The only reason we won the centre bounces wass our mids figured Sandilands out. Sure Richards made it harder but frankly i thought Frasers ruck work was better as he got to the advantage side of the drop and sat underneath Sandilands and blocked his run.DaVe86 wrote:Snoop, never did i say Richards beat Sandilands. He was smacked. So has every other ruckman to compete against Sandilands this year. He is simply too big height wise and size wise. He is a giant. Unbeatable even. But i saw Guy try his guts out tonight and break even a number of times. Sandilands is always going to create few opportunities...theres nothing you can do about that.
But we were not smacked in the clearences...which is also a huge tribute to our midfielders who read sandi well. But if Guy was not competing Sandilands wouldve created 15 goals tonight.
What i liked was that Guy was charging in with a big head of steam and leaping, mostly well timed as well. He ran right through Sandilands in one instance showing how hard he was charging in.
I take my hat off to him

From the herald sun:
f'n oath! would have loved to hear johnson distracting his old mate at a crucial moment!
No love in the glare for scorned Tarrant
...The Pies led by 18 points, and Tarrant just had to nail it. The tension wasn't concocted.
As he dropped his head to look at the ball, his socks down and the crowd booing, his old mate Ben Johnson sidled by.
Remember, this was the bloke who bolted out of a nightclub last year when he heard Tarrant was in trouble downstairs. But Johnson's loyalty lay elsewhere last night.
As Tarrant walked in, Johnson gobbed off at his former teammate. It wasn't for long, but long enough and you'd love to know what was said...

Last week I said this was one of the most important games of the year for our club and I think the players knew it and played accordingly and after this round we will be top 4 and there to stay. You have to remember ,this is a team we have not beaten in the last 4 outings and we are still below full strength and the shockers only have the eye gouger to come back in but the umpires made up for him in spades. Hopefully the dreamons will have another close loss which will totally destroy them and we will have a big percentage booster oan QB.
We played a great brand of footy last night and it is one that can take us all the way. a couple of things worried me last night and one of them was when we got a run on in the 3rd , a couple of the kids started to lairise with little taps and look away handballs that went wrong and resulted in goals against the run of play. I won't mention names because I won't knock anyone after the very tough win last night. I will ,however mention Guy. His effort last night was fantastic in that he contested eveything that came his way, some good some bad, but what i can say is that a lott more ruckmen in the comp that have been smashed by lurch and not a word has been mentioned, yet Richards, who in my book took the points last night, gets shite from his own "supporters". Will you ever be happy?A special mention to Maxy who had a horror 1st qtr but bounced back to be real good. all in all a great win under adverse conditions and now 12 day break. Gotta lov that

It was a strange game last night.
I never felt really nervous untill the last (what turned out to be) 7 minutes (I'm saying 'they've got the security guards there, they've given us the 'brunton ave will be closed message' WHY DON'T THEY RING THE BLOODY SIREN???????????????). Even with Pavlich continually taking a shot for goal, I just couldn't fathom that we could lose though the filthy yellow maggots tried their best.
Great win by the boys.
Tarrant - you are now a nothing player at a nothing club. Enjoy!
It has been interesting reading everyone's comments. Some I totally concur with, others I'm thinking 'Which game were you at?'.
Presti was awesome last night. From early in the second quarter, he was limping and spent the whole night simply pushing their forwards outside fifty, then hanging back to be ready for the next contest.
I thought Rhys was quite weak. He ran all night, but for Jock's sake man KEEP YOUR FEET. He goes to ground too quickly and too often - something that Medhurst is slowly getting rid of in his game. Perhaps Rhys's core strength is not what it used to be?? Knee recos will do that to a person.
Loved Leon, Rocca, Pendles, Didak, BOOOurns,
Sorry Holland, I think the game has passed you by.
