Well I have to say on reading the text from the chat it was an excellent win and about time agaisnt the teddy bears even the more sweeter on how many times I've been to a game there and got beaten and my oldman is a devout teddy bear supporter from being a Pies one!!! The most insulting thing was I received the complimentary ticket to the game but as I'm livin in Mexico couldn't go so my oldman and bro gave it too a Teddy Bear supporter free!!! Gave it!!! I'm pretty sure he was in the thick of all the Pies supporters and have asked if my bro could ask if he enjoyed the game amongst us! ha! ha! That was the sweetest!! Well Excellent win and way to go JOFFAAA with the Joffa end of the ground coolllllll!!!!
Hello everybody an Aussie livin in Mexico, just wanting to keep up to date with the footy club.

Nick Maxwell: beaten a few times by Clark, but otherwise was great. Generally got the better of his opponent in most contests, always there with the defensive punch. Like the look of him at the moment.
You serious - had 4.2 kicked on him up to Half time. Had his pants pulled down by a bloke whose played 5 games. Was better when moved and dis ome good things late.
Guy Richards: Might cop some flak here, but I think he showed enough to be kept in next week. Didn't exactly inspire in the ruck contests, but I liked his efforts on the ball around the ground. Doesn't actually mind a physical contest.
YOu are right - you will cop some flak. No physicality in the contest and cannot move the ball to advantage. On Ballers are confused under him. Did have a go though.
Dale Thomas: Did the things he does best: attacking the ball with courage and disposing of it beautifully. Will have better games than this, but didn't have his colours lowered.
Up until last qtr certainly had his colours lowered. Super last qtr but almost non existent before that.

Couple of things.
Firstly, was it just me or were the Fox commentators completely biased? From the opening bounce, it was all about Brisbane. Jason 'Gorilla in the midst' Dunstall and Alistair 'The Druglord' Lynch were unbearable. I don't know the name of the other caller, but he actually said that Brisbane had blown the game apart after they'd kicked their second goal of the game to lead by 12 points!
Secondly, the win was great because so many of our players were down. Niether of Rocca, Thomas, Didak or Medhurst ever got going, and Maxwell was single handedly keeping the Lions in it. Rocca's kicking is going from bad to worse, and I don't know what it will take for him to improve. It has only cost us the game against the Doggies so far, but it's only a matter of time before it happens again.

I think all of his shots last night were on difficult angles.
Not trying to make excuses for him and yes his accuracy is a concern but credit should be given to Merret who did a pretty good job one on one which forced Rocca to lead out wide and futher out from goal.

Definitely until the last quarter. Lynch did give the boys a wrap of a quality side a couple of times, but otherwise talking up the lions all night, wankers!

Well I've got to disagree with you. I was at the game and from where I sat Guy Richards won his fair share of the ruck contests and was competeitive against one of the top ruck combos in the league. The problem was we got smashed in the centre clearances and that is the area that is of most concern. I agree his around the ground stuff isn't that good, but the couple of contests he had man on man with thug charman he beat him hands down, and got his hands in the contest plenty of times. Get off his case.HieroHero wrote:how does guy richards get a game? how is he still on our list? please if play him next week and get smashed in the middle we will not win
My main concern was the amount of times Toovey got caught with the ball when he seemed to have all day to get rid of it. Other than that a bloody brilliant win by a very gutsy team who had to battle some of the worst umpiring I've seen this year.

I think Tarks is currently playing the best football of his career.
He is absolutely flying and I think it's time for some credit because his head has been rightfully called for more than once over the past 18 months.
Scott Pendlebury continues to amaze me. Sky is the limit for this bloke.
No run out of defense from Heath or Rhyce tonight and still won by 5 goals great effort.
Brisbane tagged Heath Shaw and it basically stuffed up there forward line structure.

Lockyer: Yet another grand effort from the rejuvenated Tarks. Many voted him BOG. I didn't, but he was certainly among our 2 or 3 best players. Again. Must be the shortest price favourite for the Copeland in quite a while. 8
Prestigiacomo: servicable, reliable, close-checking. Didn't do a lot except shut down whoever he was playing on - i.e., exactly what he is required to do. Where would we be without him? 6.5
Holland: continues to fail to impress. Slightly better than last week and the week before, but not in our best 22 yet. Must find form next week, or else play for Willy till he does. 4
H.Shaw: well-held but continues to show his class. Heater has been facing a brand-new challenge these last few weeks: he's been getting a defensive forward on him to shut down his drive off half-back. This is a great compliment to him from opposition coaches, BTW, but it is also proving effetive. (Very like what happens to young midfielders when they reach a certain level and start attracting a tag for the first time.) Heater han't worked out how to overcome those tactics yet ..... but he will. 5.5
O’Brien: Didn't see a lot of Harry this game, though what I did see was pretty good. I love his effort, especially his second efforts. Did he spend a lot of time on the bench because of match-ups? 5
R.Shaw: solid, determined, great run and penetrating kicking into attack, as usual. (Did I really just say that? How Racer's disposal has improved this year!) 6.5
Pendlebury: possibly our best on-baller now. Very, very unlucky not to get some votes. Didn't dominate at any time, but did very little wrong, a lot that was right, and a 4 quarter contributor. 7
Toovey: A horror night. Still got the ball, but couldn't do a thing with it except hang onto it for too long and give away holding-the-ball frees. His worst game so far. Probably due for a run with Willy to get over it, though he's done so well in previous senior matches that I'm half inclined to say that he's earned the right to have a bad one and still get picked next week. Depends on who else is pressing for his spot, really.) 2
Thomas: Did little for 3 quarters, played a blinder in the last. Thomas worries me, the way he disappears out of the game. He really needs to work on being a 4 quarter contributor. Then again, his fanatical attack on the ball in the last quarter was the last straw that broke the Brions' back. 5
Maxwell: struggled with a height mismatch most of the day. Just too small for the player he was on, got a bag kicked on him. But never gave up, never stopped running, kept on with those fantastic long punches of his .... beaten but not disgraced. It's not his fault that we needed Wakes or Clement in the side to help Presti out with the big Lions forwards, but didn't have them. He will learn from this too. I rather suspect that MM had that in mind when he left Nick one-out like that for so long .... and then moved him off to have a rest on an easier opponent, one J Brown! 5
Cloke: ran, marked, kicked it long, contested, ran some more. Has become a vital part of this side. 7
Didak: it will take Didak quite a while to return to his best form, he's still a long way off yet. But even at half-speed (as he is now) he's always dangerous, and a better shot for goal than any three other players. The more matches he plays, the better he will get. 5
Swan: just another exhibition of hard running, good ball-handling, and fearless work inside the packs. This player has become so important to our side: together with Pendles and the born-again Lockyer, he has transformed our plodding midfield into a unit to be feared. 7
Rocca: not one of his great days, but continued to provide us with focus up front, and someone to kick too. Probably surprised by the quality of his young opponent, who beat him on the day. 4
Johnson: best game from BJ in quite a while. He is running into form now, and contributed all day. 6.5
Fraser: decent day out, never dominated, was always around and about. Plays better when Bryan is in the side to knock a few bruises into the opposition rucks, IMO. Good goalkicking was an asset. 5.5
O’Bree: easily our best-on-ground in the first quarter, servicable during the middle part of the game, starred again in the last. I gave him 3 votes. He wins the hard dall, he makes space, he runs hard, he's always there at the bottom of the pack, and (today) his delivery was excellent. 8
Burns: spends a lot of time on the bench tthese days, and rightly so - because when he goes into the middle, his grunt at the bottom of the pack lifts the side enormously. Unlucky not to get a vote, yet another great effort from Sir Scott. 7
Davis: like Didak, a player that can get very little of the ball and do more damage with 6 possies than most players do with 16. Needs to get more possesions in the midfield to become an out-an-out star, but did his bit. Those 3 goals were all good ones. 4.5
Goldsack: still learning, did OK. Keep him in for now, he is getting better and will keep on improving as he gains experience. Good team player with a good brain. 4.5
Medhurst: needs match practice, still did a few things, and doesn't mind if the going gets a little rough. Will improve. Expect a huge effort from him next week against Freo. 4
Richards: did a bit, not enough. Has to learn not to fall over. Has to learn that when he does fall over he needs to get up again straight away, not lie there watching the game. 2

One of our best wins for a long while, and has smashed one of our greatest cultural hoodoos. We held strong all night, extremely satisfying.
Burnsy, Tarks, Jonno, Cheesy - take a bow.
Stretch, I though, wasn't awful in the first half, although Bryan has the presence he lacks.
Josh was good.
Neon Leon lit up the night sky with some magic, he's been very good this season.
Our tackling and worth ethic was great.
Scotty Pendlebury will be a regular in the top three of the Copeland for the next decade.
Agree with Snoop, FWIW - Thomas was quiet until the final term. I generally enjoy his audacity, however I'd prefer he did the percentages 90% of the time, instead of taking everyone on. But we need someone like that.

I don't mind that, he backs himself and his pace, and he's one who sticks his head over the ball. A keeper. My main concern was the amount of times Toovey got caught with the ball when he seemed to have all day to get rid of it.

I'd first like to thank all those who petitioned our great club to recognize the interstate Members, because as a result we now get entry to the Brissy game included in our Membership. Cheers.
My Daughter and myself drove to Brisbane for the game, checked in to our motel in Chermside, had the best dinner "ever" at Toscaninis, then hopped onto to an un-expected free bus direct to the Gabba. We were shocked to see so much Black & White. It really was more like a home game, and it was the Pies supporters who were the most vocal going into the ground, playfully intimidating the Lions supporters.
We grabbed a beer each and headed for our seats, only to be informed that as I was in the cheersquad alcahol was not allowed. Me! In the cheersquad I protested. There must be some mistake. The attendant then explained that visiting Members are sometimes allocated vacant cheersquad seats.
I looked at my Daughter, perplexed, as She understands that I can't possibly show any outward emotion, but She assured me that it would be OK and after promising not to mention to anyone who I was on Nicks I agreed. Well the way the cheersquad goes nonstop through a game is inspiring, and I just wish I had the same motivation.
It was a great win and I got back to Bundy in time to catch the last 3 qtrs on Fox but alas, on the box was nothing like being at the game.

I was honestly stoked with the pies last night, as even the blokes who weren't fully up and going were having a crack. I could see that thomas and toovey in particular seemed to be a little off, but both keep wanting the footy, and both would have learned a lot from playing against a player like simon black.
I can understand how you could look at the game and pick out negatives, but to play 'poorly' and get out with a win in any game is always good.
Tarkyn Lockyer, B and F so far for mine. Gotta love the workrate.

No, it's not Mick Malthouse, Just a guy who looks similar.
