I think the point is that it's not going to happen for 4 quarters at this stage of our development as a young team. We sort of have to be along for the ride, identifying positives when they're there, always looking to the future when things go badly.magpie57 wrote:Put 4 quarters together like that and we can beat anyone.... Lets do it from the opening bounce.Look out the rest of the competition if we can.
Someone said something about premiership this year. I would think we haven't got a chance in hell, but that's just me. In fact i'll be happy if we get in the 8, absolutely delighted if we get above 6th.

We should not forget Richards effort in the ruck last night. It was his best game by far and his 'clanger rate' was down - at last he seems to be putting his body in and is learning where to tap the ball. I think he and Fraser may have some good 'combo, going that is going to give better supply to our mid fielders. Great win - the spirit and intensity is at last back!

Horrible first half
Brilliant second half - do we have two teams within one?
3 votes - Daisy. The kid works SO hard - how often did you see him at the bottom of a pack, then 30 seconds later receiving a pass
2 votes - Scotty Burns. In and under bursting through the middle
1 vote - Dane Swan - another one who kept us in it when we sucked
Great win boys - We love the Meddler! Came good when we needed him

A confidence booster and well deserved win!
Recapping the season so far.....
A lacklustre 3 quarters against North (I know they are the Kangas but history is not lost here despite the efforts of the Afl!) and then a gritty determined come from behind win. Round 2 a trip west against a depleted yet star studded weagles outfit. Ran hard and shook out the first round cobwebs. The sort of loss that makes the faithful proud because they had a go, and showed that they had a burning desire to snatch a win.
Round 3 .....wow! To be at the game, and at half time have an overwhelming feeling of defeat, purely because the options are dwindling and the team looking grossly undermanned. Then MM waves his magic wand and the team is transformed in a cohesive determined, focused group that wanted to win....not stem the flow! Self confidence must be very high down at the lexus centre. This win will set up the season for future success.... the SELF BELIEF now comes from within. My only criticism is the lack of leadership shown, Toovey fumble in front of goals should have triggered strong support from the guys around him. No long term damage was done but this sort of thing "strong leadership" is critical in a period of leadership transition.
I thoroughly enjoyed this game and i amsavouring the opportunity to watch the replay. HOT PIES!

Rassberry. IMO The quicker we get Bryan in for Richards the better.
He got some nice taps and that was all he contributed. And of course that lovely tap in the Tiges Forward pocket in the third towards goal and into space that resulted to a goal to Kracker! I bite my tounge evertime he gets the ball.

Loved the game last night. Even when we were behind in the first half, the intensity that we had been lacking was there and when it just lifted a notch after half time, the tigers folded.
I'm glad others noted the resemblance between Toovey and McGough, I was scared to bring it up. The eyes and the kicking style. If he can be as good as McGough at getting the ball but add more leg speed and better disposal we've got ourselves a player.
Some of the things that stood out for me were Sir Scott throwing himself into the packs in the middle like a maniac, the effort of Daisy to continually run half the length of the ground to lay a tackle (and that contested mark effort ) and Medhurst sprinting into a contested ball situation to lay a crash tackle.
Mark Robinson wrote a good article in todays Herald Sun (which isn't online yet) which played up the intensity of the guys.
If we can keep playing with this intensity and the young guys keep performing when they get the chance, we're building toward some special times.

It didn't look like it at the time, but if you watch the replay, you'll see that Simmonds actually got that tap- it was brilliant ruckwork by Simmonds.melliot wrote:And of course that lovely tap in the Tiges Forward pocket in the third towards goal and into space that resulted to a goal to Kracker! well coached mick malthouse. The withdrawal af clement then the early injury to wakelin and presti getting a touch up early would have been a nightmare to mick. The first half was richmond by how much skill errors again by us ,rocca fraser ,cloke was not getting a touch then the malthouse spray must have happenned at half time as these guys got out of first gear in the second half and lifted.
The second half was they same intesity as last week which was pleasing.
Highlights for me
-leons goal
-obree very clever player clever use of the handball
-thomas reminds me of a young buckley
-pendlebury very cool under pressure reminds me of rob harvey how he avoids being tackled
-workmanlike effort by liccuria,sheep dog
-rocca fraser cloke lifted in the second half

More leg speed for Toovey? I think you'll find for someone 6ft 2 or 3 he is as fast as they come, and I don't mean to be rude. Agree about disposal, though, but I'm sure he'll settle. Really like the look of him. Plenty of courage toostui magpie wrote:Loved the game last night. Sorry, my bad. I was comparing Toovey's leg speed and disposal to McGoughs. Poss could get the ball, but leg speed and disposal were his downfall. Toovey is a lot faster and even with that shaky looking kicking style seems to have better disposal.Podpicken wrote:More leg speed for Toovey? What i meant to say was if Toov can get the ball like McGough could, considering Toov is a lot quicker and seems to have better disposal, we could have a real player.
