All I can say is thank god for Scott Burns! Last quarter was a match winner when he managed to stop the bombers clearing the ball time and time again. He may have slowed but if we are to be a finals threat Burnsy is a must.

Swan continues to improve and is now officially our most underated player, can see him and heath have a great understanding which is essential for the future.

O'Brien is bloody quick but I have 10 heart attacks whenever he touches the ball, still he has a lot of improvement in him which is great. Richards, gee he needs some specialist coaching and needs to develop some sort of understanding with the midfield.

Overall a great game of pressure football, every possession was hard earnt and if ya can't get excited about that then go and watch the soccer.

Was a tough win, love that aspect of it.. a heap of big game pressure experience for the youngsters too! We looked like amateurs early, and our indecision and stop/start football was making the Dons look good.. but we still won.. says a lot!

Heath was great under pressure, and improved as the game went on..
Dids is our most confident kick at goal and his results show.. perhaps he should take the goal kicking drills- its 99% attitude!

Craig Johnson would have been shocked to win the medal ! lol -->http://www.theage.com.au/articles/2004/ ... m=storylhs

i agree with everything you just said.

Burns was tough in that last quarter and obrien is very iffy by foot.

I heard a comment about the umpires....i do not think we got the rough end of the stick today...we got a few decent free kicks...even tarrant scored some.

There isnt really anyone in their midfield that i would tag, most of their run, like ours comes from the half back line with the likes of dew, cornes and the burgoyne brothers.
Did you actually watch Port's win last night and see Lade/Chad Cornes (yes, Chad Cornes) and Burgoyne (Peter, I think), carve St.Kilda to bits in the square in the second half?

Fantastic. Good win, though we could have played much, much better. I thought we were in trouble early. Great finish from Didak. I little dissapointed with the kicking of Rocca, and Tarrant, though they have been great recently, so I they had/have a get out of jail card.

Dale Thomas' goal was absolutely sensational, as was his mark at half back. The kid is something special.

Very happy with the win, let's hope it continues next week.

Caution: Hot Pies wrote:Only negative was centre bounces - Essendon seemed to win their bulk of them, as did the Kangaroos. Need to work out a better plan.
But soo happy and please :)
UP yours Essendon!
Just on that, everytime one of our rucks went up and hit it out, Hille would stay down and read it, and would then kick it out of the centre. It bacame very obvious, and frustrating. Surely you'd realise after a while what they were doing.

yep joel great point. Hille actually was recognising when he would not win the hitout...and he would stay down and move to the position where Richards was going to hit it. He picked it on atleast 2 occassions showing that Guy may be a little bit predictable. Hille is a big assignment however...it will be interesting to see how Fraser and Richards go against the power next week. Lade would have to be the inform ruckman in the comp alongside Cox

What a frustrating game to watch.

We always looked the better team but kept giving the Bombers chances. Fortunately, they weren't good enough to hurt us. A better team would have buried us today.

But hey, a win's a win. Benny Johnson, you're a champion. Has become my favourite Pie over the last few years. So great to see him progress to the point where he is becoming a GUN!

The class shone through for us today. Dids & Bucks in front of goal, Presti & Jimmy down back, Josh around the ground, Burnsy in the last qtr on the ball and our delivery from the back half with Heater fantastic. And Daisy! Pauses, steps and kicks the killer goal. How good was that!

amazing to think that many players on this very forum have been calling for his head most over a year now. I have always said that Johnson is one of they key players in our side. His kicking is not great, but when he is in touch he usually hits a target anyway. His pace, endurance and flare is just a cornerstone of our defence. He finds ways out of tight situations like only Ben Johnson can. Has a bit of Luke Ball in him in that regards.

What i like is that Jonno is booting it long to Rocca and Tarrant. He is not trying to be something he is not...which is a pinpoint kick. He gets it and bombs it. Then with Daisy and Didak and the floor, we manage a goal. Johnsons run is critical to us.

He is back in touch, and is not going anywhere fast. Only wish i trusted my instincts and got him in dream team.

Im happy they let it go in the last 10 minutes of the game. Very few free kicks were paid.

Any news regarding possible Didak injury?

I saw him walking around so i think he's okay, but just to be sure...

think it was just cramp sherrife...seemed to have a problem in his foot after taking the mark for what became his 4th goal. Then after the kick he fell to the floor and was attended to by trainers...but looked very calm, cool and collected as he had a drink and allowed the trainer to do his work. I doubt there is any injury, more just a case of cramp i would think.

Hope we came out of today unscaved...because port will be down atleast 2 next week.

Yeah, just cramp. He seemed to be cramping up a bit later in the fourth.
