As for Laras arrogance there were countless instances during his time in Australia and no doubt his personal problems affected his judgement.

As said its no use getting 200 in one innings helping your team to a good total then failing in the next innings when the run chase is on and then failing again in the next two innings and contributing to a test loss.

Also noted Ponting, Hayden, Tendulkar, Dravid and Gilchrist all have higher test averages than Lara out of the current players. Amonsts this sample - Tendulkar, Dravid and Ponting have played a similiar number of tests.

Gilchrist has had about 120 less innings than lara and Hayden atleast 60-70 less.

Ponting and Dravid are Very good players no doubt, and have Slightly better averages, Whats the bet though, at the end of all their careers the only person who will have a better average than lara and would have played the same amount of games he's played would be Sachin.

Donny,

Please allow me to correct a misapprehension. I am not one who places Tendulkar on a false pedestal or seeks to set him up as a cricketing god. I do however regard him very highly as one of the finest batsmen of the period post 1990 and would state that ANY team in the world would have him in their side, yes even the Aussies.

The scorn remark is in response to the somewhat acidic flavour of yr comments on this subject. Will let most matters past but will however remark re Dravid and Laxman. They are both exceptional batsmen however their performances away from home and indeed consistency have not always been up to the mark. In comparison, Tendulkar has performed basically everywhere in the world.
he's an animal, what can u expect!!!

Tendulkar is a great batsman who I rate higher than Lara. Thats just me (plus one billion Indians and a few other cricket fans). I think his humility and good nature stand him above Lara. Of all the current batsmen he has been the one most closely likened to The Don.

As for averages, thats why I stated

Needed to mention averages as you were rabbiting on about averages like mindless child and needed an explanation as to why some cricket fans and experts didn't think Lara as consistent as some other prominent players.

Tendulkar has already played more games than Lara and Tendulkar, being 4 years his junior is likely to play even more games than The Prince by the end of his career.

As for rankings aren't those done after the end of each test? Rather presumptious to proclaim Lara as the ultimate number 1 like some here seem to be.
