According to a very good PIesman on Utube, really knows his oats, Joe Richards has been offered the same contract deal by us, as Port offered, so he should be staying a Magpie. Just saying.

Re: Trade Targets ~ Free Agency & MSD player movements
Has anyone heard whether Peatling has agreed to the GWS deal ?
I know they increased there offer by a year and a few dollars but it was well short of our offer (and apparently a couple other Melbourne based clubs offers)
I would have thought that now they’ve been eliminated he would have either agreed or said he’s seeking a trade elsewhere

Well one thing might then result if Port are playing hardball on Houston. While we currently hold a weak hand, it'll assist us retaining a seat at the negotiation trade table.Piesnchess wrote: ↑Tue Sep 24, 2024 10:23 pm According to a very good PIesman on Utube, really knows his oats, Joe Richards has been offered the same contract deal by us, as Port offered, so he should be staying a Magpie. ^ I can't imagine Richmond would backflip so quickly on a targeted trade decision. It'd prove very destabilising on a number of fronts.

Dont want to lose Joe Richards, he could turn out to be a bloody star. We need him, Jamie is agening, nearing the end,of a great career, we need young Richards to replace him, end of story.
As for Housten, we still have a problem. Why not try for Frost from the piss n poop, hes on the outer soon, at Dawks, when Battle, Barass get there. Just saying.

Noble to Gold Coast plus a future Collingwood second rounder and Port 3rd Rounder.
Richards to Port
Lukocious to Port
Houston to Collingwood
Maybe some other picks swaps included.
- We give up Noble/Richards & a future second to get Houston. And we keep our future first and dont have to find one.
- Port lose Houston and a third rounder but get Lukocious and Richards to help their forward line.
- GC get Noble and a second rounder and third rounder for Lukocious (a guy they dont want/save on his salary and they keep their 12/20)
We then trade our future first into this years draft. Could we trade our future first to GC for 12 this year for a forward. Maybe split it for 16 & 18 ish
Pick up Perryman as a free agent.
Go hard for Peatling and/or Kennedy with remaining picks.
We now have changed our midfield profile dramatically to support Nick and Jordan. Back Allen and offload Bytel.
We do what Geelong does and rest Sidebottom and Pendles more in 2025. They both play more HB/HF as required.
Pressure now on Crisp, Lipinski, IQ, McCreery, Markov, WHE, Mitchell to lift their game.
We remain in the window with a younger team.
Helps cover the likely 2025 midfield retirees (Mitchell, Pendles, Sidebottom) and use the salary cap space created next year to target some future forward/back free agents for 2026 when (Mihocek, Howe, Cox, WHE are gone)

^@Piesnchess Indeed Richards looks a raw talent, but there isn't room for Hill & Richards in the same forward line, they perform the same role. Richards doesn't possess the same aerial ability as Elliott.
We need draft currency certainty and Richards moves us towards that.

Re: Trade Targets ~ Free Agency & MSD player movements
I'd be ok if Richards walked, but we need to secure Perryman. He is a very good footballer and the comparisons to WHE are spot on. Think versatile and courageous.
Kennedy is an interesting one. I've never liked him as a footballer until he played midfield. Blues and Giants both tried him at half forward - he's not great there. As an inside mid he is very very good and would be a great support to Nick and others in the guts. Cheap option worth pursuing.
I'd stay clear of Houston - yes he is a great footballer and nominated as AA, but do we need another half back flanker? We have Wil Parker coming through who looks the goods. I don't think Houston is worth 2 first round picks - that is Port's request as he still has 4 years remaining. If he was out of contract, he would be a late first rounder at best.
Are we sniffing around Tom Lynch still from Richmond?

Much along the same lines. Perryman and Kennedy are good players who will help our midfield.
Richards has both speed and skill in the forward line, so is a keep.
Houston will cost too much and other clubs have the front running.
We have Eyre, Parker and Dean coming through as defenders who can replace Murphy.
We need tall targets in the forward line. If Tom Lynch is available, I'd take a punt on him, but age and general fitness is against him.

^Mihocek and McStay are our marking talls. Mihocek kicked more goals than Lynch over the past 2 seasons.
If Houston is deemed to cost too much then Lynch also doesn't fit, let alone his carcass is cooked.

Wonder is Southport captain and ruckman Brayden Crossley will get rookied somewhere?
Looks a tad out of shape, but is a massive unit who dominated in the VFL GF. Is 25 but looks much older. Formerly on the Suns list.

Re: Trade Targets ~ Free Agency & MSD player movements
Would you say that a player that wants to leave their current club and nominates a move to North Melbourne recognises that a) they lack the skill set to be attractive to a contending club, and, 2) have come to terms with the fact that continuing their career as a professional footballer requires settling for the best possible play for pay?

Good question and my answer is a guess. If the North offer was the best or the only offer, they could accept it.

He loves playing at Southport with his Mates and loves a beer or ten. I'd be surprised if he nominates.

Whats the go with Deven Robertson? Knocked back a chance to get to WCE last year, now he cant get into the Lions team after playing in the GF last year. He made the VFL team of the year. Is he not up to AFL standard? Is he someone that will end up being traded cheaply?
