We MIGHT lose him next year for nothing if he enters the draft. But that's unlikely as Brisbane wont finish last and so he'd be picked up by a club with an earlier pick. This is not Luke Ball with a dodgy knee who wont let other clubs do a medical on him. Everyone knows Beams is a star, it would be like another Jade Rawlings where the player is forced to play for a club he doesn't like or retire. And didn't that work out well for Jade?scoobydoo wrote:Would you rather keep a disgruntled player
And then lose him next yr for probably pk
9,10,11 depending where we finish??
That would be foolish. Keep the membership
There will be no pick coming from free agency compo either, which is what I assume you mean. Beams isn't a free agent until 2016 and even then we have the right to match any offer. There's only 3 options for him at the end of 2015: Pies agree to a trade, he nominates for the draft or he re-signs with the Pies. I suppose he could retire as well, but that's not really an option at his age.
Basically, we hold all the cards here, so why accept anything less than his full value? As you say, he's disgruntled, he doesn't want to be at Collingwood next year. If Brisbane don't come to the party with a good trade, then I can see Beams opening up to the idea of playing with GC or GWS in 2015.
