Was it though? I don't know how much pokies money Essendon made last 2 years with lockdowns etc. but certainly less than before. We sold our licenses/venues in 2019, which turned out to be good timing in terms of the pandemic, and invested the money elsewhere

Having pokies certainly hasn't helped Essendon win a final

Caro drops another clanger, on Coach of the Year.

Post by Piesnchess »

Here she goes again. Despite numerous footy commentators, many of them ex players like Matty Lloyd, choosing Fly as coach of the year, by far, Caro puts her oar in an says hes second, to Scott of Geelong. Like WTF ?? Scott and the Cats made the Prelim Final last yr, and have made finals for years now, on end. McCrae, took over a side that finished 17th last season, and barely missed the wooden spoon. He has taken that side, to now 3rd on the Ladder, with ten straight wins, we have come from nowhere, unlike the old cats, who were firmly in the Finals last season.

She even had the termerity to take issue with Matty Lloyd and interjected when he chose Fly, by a mile , he said. Sometimes her disdain and hatred of all things Collingwood, surprises even me. :o :x

To be fair the Cats have also won 10 in a row and are on top of the ladder. If they don’t choke in the finals and win it then fair enough. If we beat them in a final then McCrae is a genius.

It’s not just about wins, Fly (from an outsider pov) has changed the club culture for the better. Did Scott take over a team who finished 17th and has been on the front page of the newspapers for all the wrong reasons? Just think about where Collingwood was when Fly was appointed. Scott’s had a tenth of the pressure Fly had, the way Fly has handled the club’s drama has been exemplary. Add the way Ginnivan is treated compared to Duckwood. Caro can get stuffed, she’s a Collingwood hater and only got her job thanks to daddy.

Fly coach of the year. Nick Daicos rising star. Josh Daicos goal of the year. End of story.

You can't judge Geelong until the premiership is decided, because nothing less is good enough for them. However Fly can be judged now.
Get back on top.

Good journalists show the capacity to work through their own biases and emotions. I am not saying that those traits are unwelcome but generally it is when a former players is commenting on their own club.
She is always arguing her views are independent when in reality she has many deep seated biases and grudges that she will never admit.

I saw that and I wasn’t surprised at all by what she said.Had Macrae coached Richmond and got them from 17th to third in the space of a year I’m sure her opinion would have been very different.

In reality, she’s just another biased hack in an industry full of biased hacks. They all wear their hearts on their sleeves when it comes to the clubs they support and she’s no different than most in that regard.

And as above, I have never seen or heard a VFL/AFL commentator who was not deep down supporting the team/s they followed or played for, even subconsciously. Human frailty.
